Ceiling for a girl's nursery

When determining the design of a room, the ceiling is often deprived of attention a little, drawing it more towards the walls and floor. In a modern, personality-oriented interior, such a large surface as the ceiling can hardly be pure white anymore - it can and should be used to create an unusual, most interesting design, especially when it comes to the ceiling for a girl's nursery.

Features:

Today, there are several completely different methods of finishing ceilings, which, on the one hand, allows you to choose a really optimal solution, on the other hand, it increases the chance of making a mistake in choosing due to a wide variety of options. When deciding on the type of ceiling, you need to remember that it must meet at least three basic requirements:

  • Safety. You can choose any material, as long as it does not harm the child. It is generally accepted that products of natural origin are on average less harmful than synthetic ones, and this is true, however, pay attention to hypoallergenicity, that is, the inability to cause allergies.

All this information about the material can be found in the accompanying documents, which must be in any self-respecting store.

  • Reliability and ease of care. Redoing the ceiling is more difficult than re-sticking the same wallpaper on the wall, so it is advisable that the need to repair it does not arise as long as possible. At the same time, the material should not collect dust in itself, because it is often the main cause of allergies. Removing stains if they suddenly appear on the ceiling shouldn't seem too difficult either.
  • Bright, unique design. The above two qualities are useful for a child, but he himself is unlikely to appreciate them. He will be much more pleased with the beauty and compliance with his own hobbies, so you should not forget about this factor either.

Materials

In fact, you can think of at least a dozen ways to decorate the ceiling, but in modern children's rooms, relatively few materials are usually used, which, due to the similarity of performance, are conveniently sorted into three groups. Of these, you should choose:

  • Stretch ceiling. At best, they are made from natural fabrics, at worst - from synthetic films. They are very easy to install and allow absolutely any image on their surface, they often additionally insulate the room and protect it from dampness, almost always improve sound insulation and do not collect dust. Helps to hide communications.

  • Plasterboard ceilings. A well-known material that has long proven its environmental safety. It is somewhat inferior in image brightness to stretch ceilings, but it significantly surpasses them in the possibility of creating three-dimensional structures of any complexity. Also, drywall helps to hide communications, is actively used for embedding lighting devices.

  • Wallpaper or paint. Classic wall decoration options will just as well find themselves on the ceiling. Their advantages are the same as in the classical place of use - they are inexpensive and easily replaced at any time, repairs can even be done with your own hands. Not a single millimeter of room space is lost, but the ease of cleaning and environmental friendliness depends only on what kind of wallpaper or paint the parents chose.

Kinds

Ceilings are classified according to the material used and the number of levels. The first was discussed above, so let's go straight to the second:

  • Single-level ceiling - the simplest type of design, this includes all ceilings, painted and pasted over with wallpaper, as well as most stretch ceilings. They represent an ordinary flat surface, behind which, in the case of stretch and plasterboard ceilings, you can hide the necessary communications - primarily electrical wiring and fire alarms.

The option attracts with its comparative simplicity and low cost of implementation, but visually it is somewhat inferior to more complex designs.

  • Duplex ceiling usually made of drywall, there are also stretch two-level ceilings, but then the jumpers between the levels are also made of plasterboard. Such a design can divide a room into functional zones, but in children's rooms it is more often used for a pronounced decorative function - the material is given any shape so that it resembles, say, flowers. This solution somewhat simplifies the question of how to embed lighting fixtures into the ceiling without lowering it too low - in this case, a really low surface is made only in the immediate vicinity of the light source, and the rest of the ceiling is made higher.
  • There are also multi-level ceilings, almost exclusively drywall - here the number of levels and their shape depend only on the customer's imagination.

Color solutions

When choosing the material for the ceiling by color, remember that the girl should not only like it, but also approach the overall interior design of the room. Traditionally, babies are recommended pink, but it is better not to take it - it is so worn out that it is already considered tasteless, in addition, in recent years, child psychologists have not advised it either.

If you want something standard "ladies", focus on pastel and lilac tones, but again, do not seek to find a suitable option in spite of everything.

In fact, almost any color will be appropriate in the girl's room, as long as they are relatively delicate.

If we talk about the combination with the color of the walls, then the color of the ceiling should be either close in tone, but not similar, or clearly contrasting, but not contradictory. Moreover, in both cases, it is better to find some mutually overlapping elements that would unite the seemingly different walls and ceiling into one common whole.

Tips for choosing

Almost all the points regarding the choice of ceilings have already been touched upon, so we will consider the latter - the choice depending on the age of the girl. So, here are some simple tips:

  • If we are talking about a very tiny baby, for her it is better to choose a ceiling of very calm shades, without bright spots, and in general with a minimum of complex details. It is very important for a child at this age to sleep a lot and fall asleep quickly, so it is not necessary that the ceiling, which is constantly in front of her eyes, arouses her too much. If you want some kind of drawing, choose something like a clear blue sky with a smiling sun. Now there is no need to choose the most expensive and durable ceiling - most likely, it will need to be changed in the coming years.
  • Children in preschool and primary school age much more you want bright colors, and it is quite possible to splash them on the ceiling. The main hobby at this stage is, of course, fairy tales, so any frame from your favorite cartoon or just characters from there will be greeted with due delight. Any images of princesses, fairies and fairy castles are also appropriate.
  • Choosing a ceiling for teenagers is the most difficult task. Now you should not do it yourself - at least consult with the hostess of the room, ask her opinion. If you suspect that the girl's rebellious character will surface, and she wants something that is not just not compatible with the interior, but also dangerous or impractical, select in advance several options that are acceptable to you, and already offer them to your daughter's choice. If she wants something completely different from your ideas about beauty, do not force, but try to persuade, if it does not work out, you better give in, otherwise you can get a conflict in the family and misunderstanding on the part of your own child, which will eventually take hold.

Flowers, a spring garden or the sky on the ceiling are considered the traditional solution in such a situation, but a young female nature may wish for something else.

You will learn more about the design of the ceiling in the children's room in the following video.

Examples of spectacular designs

The first photo clearly demonstrates several useful principles at once - for example, it shows how to use pink to give a room a feminine touch, but not overload it. We also see a complex three-level ceiling, which is not clogged with unnecessary details, that is, it is great for resting an infant girl.

The second example is a sample of simplicity... Although it is two-level, and even two-colored, it is still so neutral that it can be successfully used in a girl's room of any age, and in a boy's room too. Pictured is a little girl's bedroom, but this is a "timeless" option if you don't want to renovate too often, or a good compromise choice if you can't agree on a ceiling design with your teenager.

As for a teenage girl, she can easily abandon any prejudices and explicit indications of her gender, therefore, such a ceiling as in the third photo can also be chosen by her daughter.
