Curtains for the boy's nursery

Curtains are an important design element in any space, allowing you to limit the amount of daylight and prevent drafts. At the same time, the curtains take up a huge space, and it is impossible to make them invisible - which means that it is necessary to somehow fit them into the interior so that they add attractiveness to it.

In the case of a girl, it would be easier, but how to find an interesting solution for a future man's bedroom?

Kinds

The modern market for designer items is so diverse that a huge selection is offered even for something as simple as curtains.

Today these are far from ordinary window curtains - see for yourself what options exist:

  • Roller blinds are wound on a special shaft attached to the sash, from where they are unwound, if necessary.
  • Cassette cassettes look very stylish and modern, since they seem to be one with the window frame.
  • Roman is a combination of fabric with slats that simultaneously hold it in place and decorate it.
  • Japanese curtains are relatively small - they are strips of fabric that open and close by analogy with a wardrobe.

Often, photocurtains are also considered a separate type, however, their key feature is not in the form and method of attachment, but in appearance - similar to photo wallpaper. In this case, photocurtains can refer to any of the presented types of curtains.

Length

Helpful advice: start from the general interior design of a particular room.

  1. Long curtains are usually chosen in cases where the wall with the window remains open, and the short version allows you to put any furniture to the window - for example, a table or a bed.
  2. A smaller accessory will collect less dust.
  3. Short curtains are much easier to remove and wash, and cleanliness is very important for a small child.
  4. Considering the increased activity of most kids, a short curtain once again guarantees that the young owner of the room will not rip it off during one of his next pranks.

Color and print

When choosing the color of window textiles, adhere to the main rule that all designers follow: if the walls are plain, it is better to choose curtains with a print or a bright pattern, and vice versa - a plain fabric is more suitable for variegated walls.

At the same time, a clear overlap between curtains and other woven interior elements can give a commonality to the design theme - for example, if the print of the curtains is similar to the pattern on a blanket or rug. When choosing a solid color solution, pay attention to the fact that very bright colors are often perceived as an irritant by the youngest children, so something quieter is needed.

You can connect the entire palette of bright colors starting from the age of 4.

Psychologists recommend balancing the child's character with the color scheme of his bedroom - for calm children, bright colors are needed to raise their spirits, while something calm will help too active ones. At the same time, curtains of dark colors are considered by almost all design specialists to be unsuitable for a children's room.

If the choice fell on the curtains with a print, then here you should start from the individual characteristics and preferences of each individual baby, not forgetting about the general compatibility of individual interior elements in the room.

The quietest non-monochromatic way out is a cage of pastel or yellow-brown tones. If you need just a drawing, think about popular options - seascapes, characters from famous cartoons, space adventures, sports or automotive themes.

Material

Experts identify several modern materials and colors:

  1. Blue satin - looks beautiful, amazingly relaxes and soothes, while this fabric is also very pleasant to the touch.
  2. Checkered vichy - for young gentlemen, whose parents decided to bring them up in the best English traditions.
  3. Blackout - a modern variety of textiles, which is excellent for applying complex full-color patterns to it, which makes it the main material for the production of photocurtains. Among other things, it also dampens street noise very well.

Among the more familiar materials are gabardine, linen, flannel, chintz and cotton. It is relatively rare to find curtains from other fabrics - in particular, from felt, which is distinguished by an increased degree of protection against draft and noise.

Accessories

In recent decades, simple lightweight curtains have become increasingly rare, giving way to complex designs of additional accessories designed to turn an initially practical thing into a real work of art. When decorating a boy's room, it is most often recommended not to overdo it with such details.

First of all, the excessive splendor of the design still likes the weaker sex more, while a man is more inherent in simplicity and even a certain asceticism. In addition, dust is very harmful for the child, and a large number of elements from the fabric will facilitate its collection. In this context, design experts usually advise avoiding unnecessary decor, starting from lightness and simplicity.

However, completely abandoning accessories is also optional. For example, for a baby, various tassels on the curtains will even be useful, because, swinging, they are able to soothe and even lull. In addition, some types of curtain decoration require a thematic solid cornice, which, being not an accessory, but an obligatory detail, has a specific appearance, skillfully complementing the overall picture.

Requirements for curtains

Such an important element of the interior can both improve the decor and increase the practicality of the design, and vice versa, spoil it.

Taking into account the specifics of the owner of the premises, several special characteristics should be highlighted to which the fabric that served as the material for the curtains of the bedroom of the owner's son should correspond:

  • Curtains should not collect dust - pay attention to materials with a strong anti-static effect.
  • The product should be made from the most harmless components - the textile should be chosen natural, and the dye should be non-toxic.
  • The curtain is a practical element, so make sure that it is able to fulfill its primary functions: reliably protect from excessive sunlight, and also prevent strong draft.
  • When choosing a method of attaching the curtain, be guided by the fact that it can be easily removed at any time.
  • Pay attention to how easily the material can ignite.

Age features of choice

It's no secret that at different periods of our life we perceive the world in different ways. Even trying to grow a real man out of a baby, it is necessary to constantly make allowances for how old he is at the moment, otherwise the result may be the opposite.

For a baby, the main thing is calmness. Every mother probably knows how difficult it can be to lull a baby to sleep, so it is important to do everything necessary so that nothing interferes with his peace. Therefore, at the most tender age, even cartoon characters are not needed - no extra details are needed at all, everything should be very soft, smooth and without abrupt transitions. Avoid bright colors, preferring a restrained design in pastel colors, you can use accessories in the form of brushes on the curtains - this will be the best solution.

When the child has already left infancy, but has not yet grown to school, it's time for bright colors. Bright colors at this age no longer irritate him, but, on the contrary, improve his mood. But here do not forget about the balance - if you have furniture or walls that accentuate your attention, make a choice in favor of monochromatic "weightless" solutions.

A good addition to the design of the room will be a print on the curtains - it can be some character from your favorite cartoon, always kind and active, or something typically boyish - cars, ships, space, football. For example, it will be interesting for a 3-year-old kid to meet Tuchka or Kesha from Mimimishki every day. Do not pursue photographic accuracy of the image, but on the contrary, give preference to drawing, or even slightly naive animation. This design is permissible even for primary school students.

But when serious study begins, you need to make sure that nothing distracts you from a useful pastime. At this moment, the interior is gradually becoming less bright, not all animation is already appropriate due to age, and in general, it is time for the curtains to become monochromatic or at least just checkered (or striped).

Care

A separate topic is the care of curtains. The curtains of a children's room require special attention, since it is desirable to have less dust there, and, in the case of a very young age of their owner, they can be exposed to much more frequent and complex pollution than it would be in an adult's room. Choose lightweight fabrics, they are much easier to wash and iron, which significantly saves mom's time.

Please note that most natural fabrics shrink significantly after washing, and this may somewhat affect the appearance of the room, making it not at all as planned.

Therefore, either choose blended fabrics that practically do not shrink and do not fade in the sun, or when choosing curtains made from natural materials, take a product 10-20 centimeters longer than it seems consistent at first glance.

Options for a beautiful design of curtains in the bedroom

Sometimes even the most detailed descriptions of ideas for the interior look too abstract, so let's try with specific examples to consider how curtains might look in a boy's room.

The first picture shows a typical baby's room. The entire interior, not excluding the curtains, is designed in the most calm, light colors, which contributes to the mental balance of the baby. Such window textiles protect well from sunlight and do not make a depressing impression - the room still seems to be well lit. The fabric completely covers the window, and, perhaps, reaches even below the window sill, but this design is specifically for a baby who does not walk on his own, which means he will not rip or stain the curtain.

The second photo is a vivid example of design for a preschooler or elementary school student. The design here is made with the understanding that the owner is still quite small - there are both bright colors and cartoonish print on the curtains, but at the same time, the drawing on the curtains is already laying the foundations for future male interests, because cars are quite a man's hobby.

In the third image, we see an older boy's room. The presented curtain looks strict, but at the same time not bad, this is a typical male accessory - discreet, not distracting too much attention, but successfully fulfilling its tasks.

Of course, the choice of possible design ideas is not limited to this - search, experiment, create!
