How to dress a child in winter so that he feels comfortable and does not catch cold

All parents understand that from overheating and subsequent hypothermia, the baby can catch a cold. Therefore, it is necessary to dress the child in winter so that he does not freeze, but also does not sweat. We have prepared for you recommendations for clothes for different temperatures, so that you can protect the fragile health of your baby and avoid many problems.

+5/–5

Dress your baby in a long-sleeved T-shirt, overalls with padding polyester or membrane, warm shoes for tights, woolen mittens or gloves and a woolen hat or mixed with acrylic.

–5/–10

In such weather, you need to better insulate. Under a jumpsuit with a membrane or polyester filler, wear your baby's underwear, or better thermal underwear, and a thin turtleneck. The rest of the things are unchanged: tights, warm shoes, a woolen hat and mittens or leggings.

–10/–15

We leave underwear or thermal underwear, and add a fleece or woolen suit on top. Next comes a jumpsuit with polyester or down filling. It is important that he has a voluminous warm hood - we put it on his head in strong winds. Optimal children's shoes in frost are felt boots or winter boots, we put them on woolen or thermal socks. It is better to choose waterproof mittens or from wool with fur.

–15/–25

In severe frost, we leave the clothes the same, but we limit the walking time: a maximum of an hour in calm weather and up to 30 minutes in wind. Babies under 1 year old should not be taken outside when the temperature drops below -15 degrees.

Follow our recommendations, but do not forget that all children are different, so you need to pay attention to the individual characteristics of the child.

Some more helpful tips

  • Under the membrane overalls and shoes, you must wear underwear and tights containing synthetics;
  • Even in severe frost, do not close your baby's mouth with a scarf or handkerchief. Nature has provided that the baby can breathe normally, despite the low temperature;
  • If you go to the store, dress your child in split overalls so that you can take off the jacket if necessary. Take off your hat with a scarf so that the baby does not sweat;
  • About thermal underwear: for passive walks, choose products in which at least 40% of the fabrics are natural, for active ones - with a predominance of synthetics in the composition. Wear thermal underwear only for walks;
  • The fact that a child is freezing is determined by the bridge of the nose, neck and skin above the feet and hands. If the baby has rosy cheeks and nose, it means that he is healthy and has a great time: blood rushes to his face so that it does not freeze, this is the norm.
