Child development up to a year

7 reasons to wean your child from a dummy

A pacifier is always considered a must-have for a baby. In reality, it is not useful and can negatively affect the speech development of the crumbs. Here are 7 reasons why you shouldn't give your baby a pacifier.

Every thing needs to be looked after

Including behind a dummy. The purchased pacifier should be washed regularly and should not be forgotten when leaving the house. It is necessary to remember where the dummy is, and look for where it went. From time to time you have to buy a new nipple, as they wear out quickly. It takes a lot of time to buy, search, and wash a nipple. Is a tiny piece of silicone attached to plastic worth spending so much time and energy on it every day? Yah! It is better to spend all this time on playing with the baby or on your own vacation.

The child develops addiction

Weaning from a dummy is not the easiest thing to do. If the baby is used to the pacifier, it will be extremely difficult to wean him. The baby will get used to it as a means of calming. Attempts to hide or take away the nipple will provoke a real tantrum (or if the child himself has lost it). There is no need to acquire difficulties, from which you have to get rid of with such labor and nerves.

Pacifiers can delay speech development

Parents complain that at 2-3 years old the child does not speak, or the vocabulary does not correspond to the age. If he does not let the nipple out of his mouth, there is nothing to be surprised. Talking when she is constantly in your mouth is probably not entirely uncomfortable.

Expert opinion. Children's speech therapist Tatyana Vyskvarko: Continuous sucking on a pacifier during the day can cause a violation of the structure of the speech apparatus, as well as distract the child from cognitive activity. In the early stages of speech development, the dummy prevents humming, if the child is constantly busy sucking in the future, speech development is delayed. Therefore, no matter how parents would like to make their life easier, you need to remember: everything is fine in moderation, if possible, reduce the time of using the pacifier, especially after the baby is one year old.

Pacifiers disrupt lactation

The baby sucks the pacifier differently from the mother's breast. The baby sucks on the breast with the movements of the lower jaw. The baby sucks the pacifier with his lips. As a result, children can begin to get confused in the processes and not properly latch on the breast. This leads to malnutrition of the baby and a decrease in the amount of milk in the mother.

The nipple can ruin the baby's bite

Constant use of a pacifier is a guarantee of visits to an orthodontist and speech therapist. The nipple leads to the formation of an "open" bite. In the future, the pronunciation of some sounds is disturbed.

A dummy will not eliminate the causes of crying and will not replace mom

There are situations when the nipple helps the baby to calm down. But in most cases, the child can do without it. If your toddler is hungry or in pain, a pacifier won't help. He will not stop crying and demanding the attention of his parents.

The nipple can be a harmful ritual of falling asleep

If the child gets used to falling asleep exclusively with a pacifier in his mouth, his parents will not be easy. The phases of childhood sleep are accompanied by short awakenings. If at this moment the baby cannot find the pacifier, he will demand it crying. In order not to get up 10 times a night, the child will have to wean from the dummy. It is much easier to initially organize sleep without a nipple in your mouth.

During the natural breastfeeding period, the baby does not need a pacifier. When the baby is temporarily separated from the mother, and when artificially feeding, the nipple can come in handy. But before buying, you should consult a pediatrician. The dummy can be used as a temporary attribute. The main thing is to remember that everything should be in moderation.
