Foot problems in children and adults from a psychosomatic point of view

Diseases and injuries of the feet are widespread in childhood and adulthood. And not only orthopedists, surgeons and traumatologists are involved in the treatment of pain in the legs. Specialists in psychosomatic medicine are also interested in the development of problems with the lower extremities. And they are sure that up to 80% of all leg diseases have a clearly traced connection with the psychological state of a person at the time of the onset of the disease.

Officially, bruises, fractures, and sprains can be the cause of leg pain, varicose veins, chondrosis, flat feet can also be observed, in addition, often people of all ages are tormented by calluses, abscesses, fungal lesions. Each disease has mental prerequisites, and their detection greatly facilitates the task of treatment.

In this article we will talk about how modern psychosomatics looks at problems with the lower limbs.

Lower limbs in psychosomatic medicine

The connection between illness and the patient's state of mind is not denied by any practicing doctor. Moreover, some diseases are exclusively psychosomatic in nature. Diseases of the lower extremities do not belong to them, but the partial impact of the human psyche on their development is beyond doubt.

Psychosomatic medicine defines the legs as the parts of the body with which a person is able to move and move, and therefore - any problems with them are regarded as unwillingness or inability of a person to move forward.

This does not mean that the person is sitting and does not want to physically get up and go somewhere. This is uncertainty in the future, unwillingness to move towards this future due to various fears about what exactly can be expected in it, this is a loss of meaning and purpose.... People who have recently suffered bereavement, grief, who are disappointed and discouraged may not want to move forward.

Uncertainty in oneself, doubt in one's capabilities, wrong, wrongly chosen path or profession, loss of meaning to continue the work started - all this sooner or later can lead to pain in the legs.

In children, pain in the lower extremities is often associated with low self-esteem, with the desire to escape from criticism, from pressure, from any compulsion... Let's give an example: a child does not eat well, and every day his mother forces him to do it. After a couple of months, the baby begins to complain that his legs hurt. The doctors, to whom the child is brought, will not find anything pathological.

You can rest assured that force-feeding is most likely the cause of pain. If you stop forcing the child and give him food only when he himself asks, then the pain in the legs will disappear, since the desire to run away and hide will disappear.

Another common reason for the painful condition of the legs is a great desire to go forward along the chosen path against the background of extraneous obstacles - a person wants to do something, follow his plans, but cannot, because someone or something is hindering this.

Legs are a rather broad concept. Therefore, you should always specify what and where it really hurts:

  • feet - symbolize the relationship between parents and children, the reason must be sought in this particular area;
  • shins - symbolize the sphere of activity, work, professional sphere, choice of life path;
  • knees - conflicts, competition, self-esteem, relationships with people, difficult memories, humiliation - the reason should be sought in emotional memories, resentment and anger;
  • hips, sciatic nerve - in adults - the sphere of sexual relations.

Children easily and quickly absorb not only the models, beliefs, and judgments of their parents, but also their fears, concerns, even if mom and dad do not talk about it aloud. Up to 80% of all cases of hip dysplasia in newborns are the result of complex and confusing sexual and personal relationships between mom and dad, or worries about one of them, more often the mother.

How and why does the disease begin?

Foot problems usually begin long before the person experiences pain. Pain is already an open distress signal, usually preceded by less noticeable, physically subtle signs... The situation in which an adult or a child finds himself is experienced by him, and if adults have more opportunities to express their feelings, to be emotionally discharged, then the child's emotions usually accumulate, layering until one day they "pour out" into a disease.

Due to the fact that a person does not have the ability or desire to move forward, he experiences very contradictory feelings, he can condemn others, get angry, condemn himself and feel the strongest sense of guilt, he can be afraid of the future or the consequences of his steps, regret that he chose the wrong path.

Whatever the individual circumstances, feelings will be negative - fear, resentment, anger, frustration.

If an adult or a child experiences them often, then the production of some hormones is disrupted, since they are suppressed in excess by the produced stress hormones. A person begins to strain, get nervous, mentally return to what worries him. As a result, changes occur at the physical level - cellular metabolism changes, muscle clamps appear. This leads to a violation of the state of bone, articular tissues, the likelihood of injury and the development of one or another pathology increases.

Causes of common problems

If the legs are cramping, then with a high probability we can say that these are the first signs that warn that a person is on the wrong path, that he is in doubt, a state of internal conflict. This is especially evident in children who latently feel that something is "wrong", but they do not have the proper life experience and the ability to analyze the situation. That is why cramps, especially calf cramps, are very common in childhood.

If the legs swell for no apparent reason, then you need to look for the reason in the past, in negative experiences or grievances that live in a person's soul and cannot find a way out.

When the lower extremities hurt, you should more carefully analyze the areas of life listed above in order to find the true causes predisposing to pathologies.

Fingers

Toes tell a lot. Thumb problems (ingrown nail, protruding bone) usually indicate that a person is tormented by a lack of approval from the mother. As a rule, we are talking about disapproval of the chosen path. In children, an ingrown toenail often develops with authoritarian mothers who are used to controlling all areas of the child's life: his studies, interests, games, friends.

  • Right Toe Problems almost always talk about problems in the adult's sex life, but if the child's right toes hurt, then his mother has such intimate problems.
  • Left big toe - a bright indicator of how all relationships with loved ones are built.
  • Frequent injuries and pain in the little fingers - a signal that it is time to stop clinging to little things in relationships with loved ones, especially parents. The little finger symbolizes minor grievances, they need to get rid of as soon as possible.

Varicose veins

The veins in the legs also expand due to a violation of the regulation of their elasticity at the level of the central nervous system. This happens in women (less often in men) when it is impossible to go their own way; in relation to the situation, the metaphor "bound hand and foot" is very true.

Releasing the feeling of lack of freedom usually brings significant relief and makes traditional treatment more successful.

Knees

Obstacles to moving forward towards the goal have an internal character, they are created by the person himself, his fears and uncertainty, anger, resentment, negative experience. The stronger the fear, the stronger the heaviness in the knees, the tension of the ligaments.

If a person understands that he needs to move, but cannot, and therefore is in a state of internal conflict, then his knees ache. Weakness in the knees speaks of indecision, inability to make an overdue decision and start moving forward.

Flat feet

Lack of trust in the world, fear of being left without support, support, helplessness. That is why children most often suffer from it (and flat feet up to 7 years old is considered a physiological norm).

The child does not receive enough confidence, does not trust adults, has a lot of complexes and childhood fears.

Until adulthood pathology persists in those who could not find support in the face of their parents.

Leg injuries

Bruises, calluses and bumps appear as the first warning that a person is on the wrong path.

If he continues to persist, torment himself and still move in one direction, not showing flexibility, then more serious injuries are not excluded - bruising, fracture, dislocation, sprain and rupture of ligaments.

This is how the subconscious tries to stop a person by temporarily immobilizing him so that he has time to think and revise some of his attitudes. If this is not done, it is possible that the fracture will be wrong or heal badly, because the lesson has not been completed.

Conclusions

In search of the cause of problems, you must always understand that nothing random happens. Even ordinary cold feet that do not hurt indicate that a person looks into the future without joy and enthusiasm. And therefore you should start with the search for that fear that blocks joy, prevents blood from circulating normally on the lower limbs.

There is no need to refuse treatment, but psychocorrection will be an excellent addition.
