Groprinosin for children: instructions for use

In the treatment of diseases caused by viruses, medicines with antiviral effects are used. At the same time, drugs that can influence the patient's immune system and enhance its response to the pathogen are especially in demand. One of them is Groprinosin. Is such a remedy used in childhood and how is it used correctly?

Release form

The medicine is produced by Gedeon Richter only in tablets, and Groprinosin does not have such forms as syrup, capsules or injections. The drug is sold in cartons containing 20, 30 or 50 oblong white tablets. On one side of each of them there is a risk so that, if necessary, the medication can be divided into equal halves.

Composition

The basis of the drug, which provides Groprinosin with medicinal properties, is the compound "inosine pranobex". Each tablet of the medicine contains this substance in a dose of 500 mg. There are few additional ingredients. They are represented by magnesium stearate, k25 povidone and potato starch. Thanks to these compounds, the tablets are hard and keep their shape.

Operating principle

Groprinosin has both antiviral effects and immunomodulatory effects. Taking such a medicine affects influenza viruses, herpes viruses, ECHO viruses, Epstein-Barr viruses, cytomegaloviruses and many other pathogens. The drug interferes with their reproduction by interfering with the processes of RNA replication.

The effect of the medication on the patient's immune system consists in the following effects:

  • Support for macrophage activity.
  • Stimulation of the formation of antibodies and other substances involved in the immune response.
  • Enhanced proliferation of white blood cells.
  • Increased activity of T-lymphocytes.
  • Normalization of the ratio of immune cells in the blood.

Due to the intake of the drug, the clinical symptoms of the infection pass faster, and the patient's body resistance increases.

Indications

Groprinosin is recommended to be taken when immunity is weakened under the influence of viral infections. Most often, such pills are prescribed for lesions with herpes viruses, for example, with herpes on the lips, keratitis or severe chickenpox. They are also in demand for mononucleosis, influenza, papillomas, cytomegalovirus infection, mumps and other diseases.

Another reason to prescribe a medication is such a rare but severe pathology of the brain as subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Its development is associated with infection with measles. Research has shown that inosine pranobex is able to slow the progression of this disease and prolong the patient's life.

At what age is it prescribed?

The treatment of children with Groprinosin is allowed from the age of 3, however, the instruction contains an additional condition - the weight of the baby should not be lower than 15 kilograms. If the affected child's body weight is less, it is better for him to prescribe another antiviral medicine.

Contraindications

Do not drink tablets:

  1. With increased sensitivity to any of their components.
  2. With arrhythmias.
  3. With urolithiasis or gout.
  4. For chronic kidney disease, which led to the failure of the kidneys.

In addition, the appointment of a medication requires caution if a small patient has liver pathologies, due to which the function of this organ is impaired.

Side effects

When treating Groprinosin, there may be:

  • Negative symptoms from the central nervous system, which are manifested by fatigue, dizziness, deterioration of health or headaches. Occasionally, the child becomes nervous, cannot sleep, or, conversely, looks drowsy.
  • Negative manifestations from the digestive tract in the form of decreased appetite, abdominal pain or nausea. In some patients, the gastrointestinal tract reacts to medication with vomiting, constipation, or loose stools.
  • Liver problems. They can be detected early on in a blood test, which will show increased enzyme activity.
  • Increased urine volume.
  • Allergic reactions such as skin rash, swelling, hives, or severe itching.
  • Joint pain.

Also, tests of the child may show an increased concentration of urea.

Instructions for use and dosage

  • The child is allowed to swallow the tablet and drink it with a small amount of water. If the baby does not succeed, the medication is allowed to be crushed into powder, diluted with still water in a spoon and given to the little patient in this form.
  • Usually, the frequency of taking Groprinosin is 3 times a day (with an equal interval of 8 hours), but it can be prescribed four times (with a pause between doses lasting 6 hours).
  • The doctor calculates the dosage for the child individually according to his weight. Multiplying the body weight in kilograms by 50 mg, you get the daily amount of medication. For example, a baby weighing 20 kg requires 20 * 50 = 1000 mg, which corresponds to two tablets. This means that the medicine can be given to the crumbs 4 times a day, half a tablet.
  • If the doctor has diagnosed a serious infectious disease, the daily dose of Groprinosin can be increased to 100 mg of the active ingredient for each kilogram of the patient's body weight. The calculated dose is divided into 4-6 doses. For example, a child weighs 50 kg, so he needs 50 * 100 = 5000 mg (10 tablets). In such a situation, the patient can be given 2 tablets 5 times a day or 2.5 tablets four times a day.
  • How long to take the medication depends on the course of the disease. If Groprinosin is prescribed for an acute infection, then they drink it for at least 5 days, and when the symptoms of the disease have disappeared, they continue to take it for another 1-2 days, but the duration usually does not exceed two weeks. Chronic disease with relapses is treated with courses, prescribing pills for 5-10 days. After completing one course, after 8 days, you can start the next one, and the total duration of treatment is up to 30 days.

Overdose

The manufacturer does not mention cases of drug overdose, but when taking a large number of tablets, gastric lavage and referral to a specialist are recommended.

Interaction with other drugs:

  1. The drug has good compatibility with antibiotics and other antiviral agents.
  2. The therapeutic effect of Groprinosin will be less if the child is simultaneously taking immunosuppressants.
  3. With the additional appointment of loop diuretics or allopurinol, the risk of an increase in the level of uric acid in the bloodstream due to the intake of Groprinosin increases.
  4. Groprinosin affects the concentration in the blood and the rate of elimination of a drug such as zidovudine from the body. This should be considered when determining the correct dosages.

Terms of sale

Reviews

Children respond differently to Groprinosin's reception. Some parents and doctors call it effective, others insist that there is no action in case of a viral infection and are looking for a replacement for such a drug.

The therapeutic effect is often noticed in cases when Groprinosin was taken in the first days of the disease. When using tablets in children with herpes, mothers often note that new bubbles appeared less often, and the relapses of the disease have significantly decreased.

The disadvantages of the drug include its high cost and inconvenient form. According to mothers, it is difficult for many children to swallow pills, they are very large and difficult to grind. They also have an unpleasant bitter taste.

Analogs

A complete replacement Groprinosin called a medicine called Isoprinosine... He has the same active substance, the same dosage form and dosage per tablet. The indications for use, negative side effects, age restrictions and other contraindications for these drugs are the same. In addition, the drugs are in approximately the same price category.
