Cameton for children: instructions for use

For sore throats in children, local remedies are always in demand, with which they rinse or irrigate the affected area. One of these drugs is Cameton. This multicomponent medicine is often used by adults as an antiseptic for various diseases of the ENT organs. Is it allowed in childhood and how to properly spray it down the throat of a child?

Release form

Cameton is a eucalyptus-scented liquid placed in cans of different sizes. The drug is available in two forms - spray and aerosol. Depending on the manufacturer, one bottle can contain from 15 to 45 grams of such an oily medicine, which has a bitter taste.

Composition

The therapeutic effect of the drug is provided by the following active ingredients:

  • Chlorobutanol hemihydrate;
  • Camphor;
  • Levomenthol or racementol;
  • Eucalyptus oil.

Each of these substances is presented in one container, depending on the total volume of the drug, in an amount of 0.1 g, 0.2 g or 0.3 g. Additionally, the drug in an aerosol includes a propellant and isopropyl myristate, and Cameton spray contains water, an emulsifier, polysorbate 80 and liquid paraffin.

Operating principle

Cameton helps in the treatment of throat diseases due to the following properties of its components:

  • Have camphor there is the ability to reduce nasopharyngeal congestion and facilitate breathing. Under the action of this substance, the mucus in the respiratory tract is thinned and easier to separate, and the blood flow at the site of treatment increases.
  • Eucalyptus oil is capable of destroying various harmful microorganisms, therefore, under its action, the infectious inflammatory process quickly subsides. This component of the drug also stimulates receptors on the mucous membrane, has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory activity.
  • Chlorobutanol prevents the reproduction of pathogenic microbes and fungi, and also has an anti-inflammatory and slight analgesic effect.
  • Menthol reduces painful sensations when swallowing and helps to get rid of perspiration. This ingredient has a local irritant effect, which results in a feeling of coldness. In addition, it has some antiseptic effect.

Indications

Cameton is used:

  • With rhinitis;
  • With pharyngitis;
  • With tonsillitis;
  • With laryngitis.

Most often, a medication is prescribed in the first days of the disease and, if it does not improve the child's condition, it can be replaced with other medications.

From what age is it allowed to take?

The use of Cameton is allowed from the age of 5. At the same time, children 5-7 years old often choose an aerosol, since drug particles from this form are better distributed in the nasopharynx. When you press the dispenser of such a medication, a small cloud of tiny drops of the drug is formed. They evenly settle on the mucous membrane, and overdose during aerosol treatment is practically excluded.

Cameton spray is often prescribed for children over 7 years old. By pressing the nozzle of the spray can of such a tool, a stream of medicine is obtained, which allows you to pinpoint the site of the lesion. In addition, schoolchildren have no difficulty opening their mouths wide and holding their breath during the procedure. In addition, the concentration of active ingredients in a spray is usually higher.

Contraindications

The medication is not used in children with intolerance to any ingredient in Cameton. The manufacturer does not note other contraindications to treatment with this local remedy.

Side effects

The instructions mention that treatment with Cameton can cause an allergic rash. In addition, there may be a slight tingling sensation or burning sensation at the site of the drug particle ingress.

Instructions for use and dosage

The remedy is prescribed for both the nose and throat. Before the procedure, you should clear the nasal passages of mucus. Further, the use of different forms of the drug is different:

  • To treat the nasopharynx with an aerosol, remove the protective cap from the cylinder and insert the spray nozzle shallowly into one nostril (about half a centimeter). Having asked the little patient to inhale, simultaneously press the dispenser. Then the manipulation is repeated for the second nasal passage. Next, the drug is sprayed into the oral cavity.
  • Cameton has 2 different nozzles in spray form. One of them is a vertical dispenser, which is used in the order described above (as an aerosol).
  • The second option is an elongated movable tube. Putting such a dispenser on a can, the tube should be installed vertically and inserted into the nasal passage by about 0.5 cm, then inject and repeat for the second nostril. To clean the throat, such a tube is turned at a 90-degree angle to the balloon. Then it is inserted deep into the mouth and directed to the tonsils and pharynx.

It is important for parents to know that the head should not be thrown back when spraying the medicine into the nasal cavity. In addition, it is forbidden to turn the can upside down during processing or spray the medication into the eyes. Also, do not use one drug to treat several patients.

The frequency of using a spray or aerosol is 3 or 4 times a day. How long to treat the nasopharynx and throat is determined by the doctor, but usually the course of treatment lasts 3-10 days... The number of injections depends on the age:

  • A child 5-12 years old is performed one inhalation in each nostril, and 1 or 2 injections are used to treat the throat.
  • For children 12-15 years old, the spray is injected one press into the nose (in each stroke) and sprayed into the throat twice.
  • For a teenager over 15 years of age, the dosage can be increased to 2 sprays in each nostril and 3 pressures for throat treatment.

Overdose

An overdose of Cameton may cause nausea, stomach pain, or vomiting. This happens if you use the medication more often than the doctor prescribed. Also, an overdose is possible if the child swallows the medicine while processing the throat. In such situations, you need to show the little patient to the pediatrician.

Interaction with other medicines

Since the ingredients of Cameton are not absorbed and do not have any systemic effect, the drug is allowed to be used with any other drugs.

Terms of sale

The medication is sold in pharmacies without a prescription. The average price of 30 g of Cameton aerosol is 50-60 rubles, and the same amount of medicine in the form of a spray is about 80 rubles.

Storage conditions and shelf life

It is recommended to choose a place protected from sunlight to store the medicine both in the form of an aerosol and in the form of a spray. The drug must be inaccessible to a small child. The optimal storage temperature is from +3 to +25 degrees. The shelf life of Cameton, depending on the manufacturer and form, is 2, 3 or 4 years. If it has expired, the can must be discarded, but the aerosol container must not be punctured or broken.

There are many good reviews about the use of Cameton in children. The medication is praised for its effective action against pharyngitis, sore throat and other diseases in which sore throat appears.
