Veroshpiron for children

"Veroshpiron" is a popular diuretic, often prescribed for adults with high blood pressure or edema. Let's try to figure out whether it is possible to treat babies with such a drug and when it is used in childhood.

Release form

"Veroshpiron" is produced in two forms:

  • Pills. They have a flat round shape, almost white color, a characteristic smell and there is an inscription VEROSPIRON on one of the sides. One package contains 20 tablets.
  • Capsules. They are made of gelatin and have a powdery white substance inside. The color of the capsules indicates the dosage of the drug (with a lower dose - white, with a larger one - yellow-orange), and one pack contains 30 of them.

Composition

The main ingredient in Veroshpiron is spironolactone. Such a substance in one tablet is represented by a dosage of 25 mg, and capsules are available with a spironolactone content in a dose of 50 or 100 mg.

In both forms of the drug, manufacturers included lactose, corn starch, and magnesium stearate. In addition, the tablets contain colloidal silicon dioxide and talc, and the capsules contain sodium lauryl sulfate, gelatin and coloring components.

Operating principle

The main effect of "Veroshpiron" is diuretic. It does not appear immediately, but from the second day of treatment, as a result of which the pressure decreases. At the same time, the drug counteracts such adrenal hormone as aldosterone, so that the body does not lose a lot of potassium and magnesium in the urine. Once in the kidney cells, the drug prevents aldosterone from retaining water, chlorine and sodium, but blocks the excessive excretion of urea and potassium, which causes the acidity of urine to decrease.

Indications

Treatment with "Veroshpiron" is prescribed:

  • With edema.
  • With increased blood pressure.
  • With a reduced level of potassium.
  • With hyperaldosteronism.

From what age is it allowed to take?

"Veroshpiron" is not recommended for children under 3 years of age. However, the doctor may prescribe this medicine at an earlier age (for infants and even premature babies), if indicated for this. A child under three years old must be supervised by a specialist.

Contraindications

The medication is not prescribed for children with:

  • Severe renal failure.
  • Hypersensitivity to spironolactone or another component of the drug.
  • Anuria.
  • Lack of lactase.
  • Decreased blood sodium levels or high amounts of potassium.
  • Problems with the absorption of glucose or galactose.
  • Addison's disease.

If a small patient was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, AV blockade, hypercalcemia or liver failure, Veroshpiron should be used very carefully. The use of medication after surgery also requires increased attention.

Side effects

During the reception of "Veroshpiron" may appear:

  • Loose stools, abdominal pain, vomiting and other negative symptoms from the digestive tract.
  • Dizziness, lethargy, drowsiness, headaches.
  • Changes in blood tests: a decrease in the level of granulocytes, an increase in the level of potassium, urea, creatinine, a decrease in the number of platelets.
  • Coarsening of the voice.
  • Allergies in the form of urticaria.
  • Hair loss.
  • Disorders of the kidneys.
  • Muscle spasms.

Instructions for use and dosage

The drug should be swallowed and washed down with water. It is not advised to bite or chew the capsules, therefore they are prescribed only to those children who can easily swallow such a drug. Pills are often prescribed for babies under 6 years old, because they can be ground into powder if necessary and mixed with water or milk.

The best time for an appointment is morning or afternoon. The tablets should be taken during meals or immediately after meals. Treatment of edema in children begins with a dosage of 1 to 3 mg of the active ingredient per kilogram of weight. After five days, the required dosage is adjusted, taking into account the therapeutic effect of the drug. If the medication is prescribed for other pathologies, the dose and frequency of administration must be determined individually.

Overdose

If the child is given the wrong dose and gets more spironolactone, it will lead to dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure, dry mouth, muscle weakness, skin rash and other symptoms of overdose. For treatment, the stomach should be flushed and the patient should be given medications that normalize electrolyte and fluid levels. If the condition is severe, hemodialysis is used.

Interaction with other drugs

"Veroshpiron" is not advised to be combined with many drugs, among which anticoagulants, digoxin, indomethacin, salicylates, and other diuretics can be distinguished. A complete list of such tools and the features of their interaction will be found out, focusing on the annotation. With such drugs as "Cinnarizin", "Glycine", "Piracetam", "Neurobeks", "Pantogam", as well as with other drugs prescribed by neuropathologists, "Veroshpiron" is compatible.

Terms of sale

To buy "Veroshpiron" in a pharmacy, you must obtain a prescription from a doctor. Most often, the cost of a package of tablets is 80 rubles, and 30 capsules of 50 mg of an active compound can be bought for 180 rubles.

Storage conditions

Keep both capsules and tablets at home at room temperature. They should be kept out of the reach of small children. The shelf life of the medicine is 5 years.

Reviews

Almost all reviews of "Veroshpiron" indicate the high efficiency of the drug. Mothers say that this medicine quickly relieves swelling and normalizes blood pressure.

Parents claim that side effects from this drug are rare. This is most often weakness, headaches, nausea, or diarrhea. After discontinuation of the medication, they immediately disappear.

The main disadvantage of tablets is called their bitter taste. Because of it, many children find it difficult to swallow Veroshpiron or react to the drug by vomiting.
