Bedtime stories - a pleasant ritual before bed

All families have rituals. It was customary in our family to read fairy tales before going to bed. My son goes to bed, I open the book - and the magic begins.
The child's first books were thin, soft-bound, and each of them contained a separate fairy tale with colorful illustrations. Maybe at first the baby was still too small to follow the plot. But for me it was a great opportunity to remember my childhood and fairy tales that I once loved, but have already forgotten.

When the baby grew up, reading books at night has already become a mutual pleasure. The child independently chose the fairy tale that he wanted to hear. He handed me the necessary book, and I began to read. Listening to a fairy tale, the kid got acquainted with the literature, developed his imagination, and his mother seemed to return for a while to a cloudless childhood in which there were no worries.

"Kolobok", "Teremok", "Masha and the Bear" - the child listened to these familiar fairy tales dozens of times. At first I read them with rapture, relishing painfully familiar lines. Gradually, fairy tales were replaced by lullabies for his son. I took a book, started reading - and after 15 minutes the child was snoring sweetly. At first I was moved, but then it became annoying, I thought: "How can you sleep when you are being read such an interesting book?"

Gradually, while reading fairy tales and poems, questions and unsaid phrases began to appear. It was no longer my monologue, but our dialogue with the child. I began to ask my son: “Where is Little Red Riding Hood going? What's in her basket? Can you find a magpie and a jug in the picture? " So the ritual reading of fairy-tale books has become a didactic occupation. Even simple plots of "Ryaba Chickens" and "Turnip" give rise to a huge number of questions: "From whom did the kolobok run away?" Who did he end up with? What did grandfather planted? Who pulled the turnip? "...

Discussion of illustrations is a great opportunity to talk about the fairy tale and its characters, how the child and mother imagined the characters, whether the artist drew them correctly. So the child will get acquainted with colors, shapes, perspective, and also learn the meaning of new words and terms for himself.

Starting to read a new fairy tale, invite your child to come up with what will happen next. Let him look at the pictures and imagine what kind of character each character has - which of them will be good and who will be the villain.

How long to read a story before bed depends on many factors - on how much free time the parents have, and on the child's inner mood. Start by discussing the plot, characters. Then move on to reading. You can take a break to discuss some issues. If your child is not ready to talk or is not feeling well, read only.

The best books for kids are classics proven over decades: Russian folk and foreign fairy tales by the brothers Grimm, Andersen, Charles Perrault, Hoffmann ...

Children quickly get used to bedtime stories, and then they cannot do without this ritual. The kid can lie in bed for a long time and wait for the mother to put the younger child to bed and come to read him a book. But, having heard his favorite lines, he falls asleep after 5 minutes.

Listening to fairy tales, the child not only gets acquainted with the classical children's literature, but also calms down. Reading before bed is the natural end of the day. It is important to choose optimistic and not too "creepy" tales.

Reading books before bedtime is also a great incentive for the baby to have dinner faster, put the scattered toys, brush his teeth and go to bed without whims.
