Truth and myths about winter overalls for children

Winter is approaching, which means that it's time to take care of warm, cozy and practical outerwear for the child. Experts of Roskachestvo tested the strength of the most famous brands of children's clothing and dispelled some of the myths about overalls and down jackets.

MYTH. Solid colors are more practical and environmentally friendly

Winter clothes should be practical, but nice if they are also beautiful. Only mothers are often worried that bright dyes, when in contact with the baby's skin, will stain it, so they buy things in neutral shades. Colored dyes don't always make clothes toxic. The results of the inspection of Roskachestvo confirm that children's clothes of popular brands are safe, and there is no more free formaldehyde in them. Experts advise washing clothes before wearing so that the formaldehyde is completely volatilized.

MYTH. Colored clothes will surely shed

Roskachestvo also tested how resistant the coloring of autumn-winter clothes for babies is to sunlight, sweat, distilled water and washing, as well as dry friction. Both the upper material and the lining were examined.

The experts were interested in the following parameters:

  1. Does the overalls shed when washed.
  2. Does the jumpsuit burn out in the sun.
  3. Whether the lining dyes other clothes.

During the experimental wash, none of the tested suits faded. Only under the influence of sunlight did one of the samples still burn out.

MYTH. The child needs to take overalls 1-2 sizes larger

Choosing clothes is the hardest part of the season. Let's see what mistakes caring parents make when collecting a child for a walk. Often moms and dads take things for growth so that they serve not one, but several seasons. Only not all clothes can withstand such a long wear - many things can fray or fade by the end of the first winter. And in the course of the Roskachestvo research, only 19 out of 30 overalls showed good results, so there is no point in buying things for growth.

MYTH. Strips protect children from snow

Strips are a protective element, which is a membrane made of rubber, textile or plastic, which is attached to trousers and fixed to the shoe. This word became known to modern mothers when children's winter clothes from Scandinavian countries appeared in Russian stores. It would seem that when children actively run and jump on the street, ride down slides, this simple, but at the same time practical and useful invention comes in handy. Only in reality, footstocks are not always saved, because they do not fit as tightly as snow protection parts. Of the 30 overalls tested, only 7 had strips, while only a couple of samples had additional loops or buttons for them.

MYTH. Winter clothes must "breathe"

The main thing is that children's autumn-winter clothes are warm, allowing the child to feel comfortable and not freeze in cold weather. Therefore, the top of the children's overalls is made of a material with a special film coating that does not conduct air and protects from the wind. But the lining of the winter suit should be made of breathable fabric to maintain air circulation in the space under the clothes and prevent the baby from overheating.

TRUE. One jumpsuit is enough for 33 downhills

The experts used a disc with an abrasive material to study the resistance to friction. Initially, the condition was set that high-quality winter clothing must withstand at least 4000 disk cycles (revolutions). This can be compared to a hundred descents from a 20 m long ice slide without sacrificing your overalls. The 21 samples tested succeeded in this task, but for the suit with the worst result, the trousers were frayed after 1318 cycles. In other words, in such clothes, a child could ride down the hill no more than 33 times.

TRUE. Winter clothing must be water-repellent

Kids love outdoor activities - they ride downhill, make snowmen, throw snowballs at each other. Therefore, the child's clothing should be such that he does not get wet on walks. According to the results of a study by Roskachestvo, almost all overalls were found to have a 100% ability to repel moisture. Such clothes not only do not get wet, but also do not lose their water-repellent properties even after several washes.

TRUE. In a jumpsuit with reflective elements, children are more visible on the road in the dark

It is very important for the safety of the child that his clothes are equipped with reflective elements that can prevent accidents on the road. They will make your baby more visible in poorly lit areas. Among the checked children's clothes, there were only 7 samples without such reflectors.

As part of a fan study of Roskachestvo, 30 samples of the most popular on the Russian market for children's suits for the autumn-winter range, intended for preschoolers, were studied. Children's suits have been tested for 20 quality and safety indicators. More than half of the samples are Russian-made, the rest are imported. Among the costumes made abroad there are 11 samples from China and one sample each from Estonia, Italy and Finland. According to the results of laboratory tests, suits of five brands were recognized as high quality goods. They meet the requirements of current quality and safety standards, as well as the requirements of the leading Roskachestvo standard. The leaders were three samples from Russia (Arctland, Nikastyle and SHL), as well as two samples from China (Premont and Gusti) - in spite of the general prejudice towards Chinese products. Russian goods can apply for the Quality Mark.

STANDARD OF THE RUSSIAN QUALITY SYSTEM

The program for researching the quality of children's suits for the autumn-winter assortment included the indicators of GOST 25295-2003 “Outerwear for coat and suit assortment. General specifications ", as well as a number of additional indicators affecting the comfort and quality of the product.

Additional requirements for air permeability and water repellency, tensile strength of the seams of the upper fabric, and abrasion resistance along the plane were introduced by the quality. In addition, in terms of safety in the research program, the indicators for the content of free formaldehyde were tightened.
