6 ways to make your child's room comfortable and safe without compromising the design

When a child appears in the family, it is time to think about how to create a safe space for the baby, because very soon he will begin to move around the room and actively explore the world around him.

There are many ways to keep your little one safe from hitting sharp corners, trying to explore outlets, and many other dangers that young explorers face. And most importantly, all changes can be made without disturbing the aesthetics of the interiors.

1. Soften sharp corners

The children's room is the very first playground. Here the kid rests, runs, learns the first acrobatic tricks, draws and sculpts from plasticine. And, of course, you can't do without big and small pranks.

According to family psychologist Irina Kadovtseva, the mobility of children cannot be limited. The period of cognition of the world is very important for harmonious development. Parents may even join in the little frenzy: run around the room or take part in a pillow fight. Such relaxation will benefit both parents and the baby, it incredibly brings them closer together - the child will be pleased that the parents are ready to share the joy with him. And the child will release the accumulated energy and become calm and attentive again.

What really needs to be taken care of is creating a safe space. Toddlers are not very good at controlling their movements and simply do not see the threat. Sharp corners are especially dangerous for the naughty toddler. Special overlays will help to soften them; in any children's store you can find similar products from any materials and the most diverse colors. You can choose transparent silicone models that are almost invisible on furniture and provide reliable protection. Or you can choose rubber products decorated with images of funny animals or heroes of your favorite fairy tales. This option fits perfectly into the aesthetics of the nursery.

2. Hiding the sockets

From an early age, we explain to children that it is forbidden to stick fingers and any foreign objects into the socket. But, despite the prohibitions, the temptation is sometimes too great.

It also happens the other way around: it is the constant warnings of the parents that provoke the baby to check what is so terrible there and why he is not allowed.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for a little researcher to put foreign objects into the socket. No prohibitions and multiple warnings apply. The sockets must be safely hidden. No, parents do not need to dismantle them or seal them with construction tape. You just need to install plugs that do not allow you to get to the mains without a key. So that the stubs do not attract the attention of the child, it is better to choose calm, soft colors.

3. Window protection

Sergey Kanavkin, one of the leading managers of the REHAU division in Eastern Europe, reports that up to several thousand children fall out of the windows every year. In the vast majority of cases, tragedy could be easily avoided if parents paid sufficient attention to the issue of safety.

It is very important to organize the space in the nursery in such a way as to make it difficult for the child to access the windowsill. In no case should the baby be left alone in the room if the window sashes are open. Additional protection will be special fittings offered by the creator of plastic windows. Special hooks with a key will allow you to open the sash only for ventilation, in order to fully open the window, you must use the key, which should always be with the parents.

You can protect your child if you install bars on the windows. You can pick up products of any shape and paint them in a wide variety of colors (or even entrust the baby to do it himself). Such decorative protection will reliably save the baby from an accident.

4. Fixing doors and furniture

Door structures attract the child like a magnet. You can swing on the door leaf, it is so pleasant to slap it loudly, you can hide behind a closed door while playing hide and seek. However, the door is a source of increased danger. A pinched finger often causes loud tears and it is good if it is done without serious injury.

In order to secure the interior doors, special devices are used: latches or stoppers. They, like furniture linings, are made from a wide variety of materials. You can choose animals that with their "paws" carefully hold the door, butterflies, flowers, etc. Depending on preferences, stoppers are purchased in color with the door or in contrasting bright colors, which can become a striking design element.

It is also necessary to fix the doors of cabinets and other furniture, which arouses no less interest in children.

5. Fixing the cabinets

Modern cabinet furniture, especially if they are made of lightweight plywood, in fact often turns out to be not as stable as at first glance and is not designed for the activity of little fidgets. And during active play, the child can drop a chest of drawers or wardrobe on himself. Such an incident could result in serious injury. To prevent this from happening, you need to fix the furniture.

Traditional L-shaped mounts can be used, but such details are immediately evident. Therefore, many people prefer to attach dressers or wardrobes to the walls through the back wall. In this case, the fasteners are located inside the furniture and do not spoil the interior.

6. Removing dangerous items

First of all, you should reliably hide all piercing, cutting and breaking objects. Anything that can harm the baby must be removed from free access. Use drawers and shelves that your child cannot reach.

It is also worth removing from the nursery small decorative figures, glass frames for paintings and photographs, vases and other objects that may break. Instead, you can decorate the interior with toys, and hang children's drawings on the walls.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in securing the nursery. Creating a comfortable space for a child will not require substantial investments or special technical skills, while providing the main thing - the parents' peace of mind for the safety of their child. And as mentioned above, you can completely preserve the original interior and not violate the thoughtful design.
