Sleep is an important part of a newborn baby's life. The baby sleeps up to 20 hours a day. But in the first weeks, when the sleep and wake regime has not yet been developed, certain problems with falling asleep may be observed. The baby often cries, cannot fall asleep at night, and during the day there is lethargy, drowsiness. This is a normal phenomenon, because the regime is not developed immediately, it takes time. Therefore, young mothers need to take into account a few simple rules that will help to lay the baby quickly and efficiently. This means that you save energy, time and nerves.

  1. Identify and eliminate factors that can cause discomfort in a child. These are, for example, wet diapers or a diaper, hunger, stomach cramps, older children have pain from teething. Also, the baby may be cold or hot. Depending on the reason, you need to feed the baby, swaddle him or change the diaper, create a comfortable microclimate. If the baby is worried about colic, you can give him a light tummy massage, put a warm diaper on the tummy. If a child's teeth are teething, the pain is relieved with special soothing gels.
  2. Ventilate the nursery. Cool fresh air will calm the baby and the baby will fall asleep faster. If the room is too hot, the child becomes anxious, uncomfortable. In addition, the baby begins to sweat profusely, which can lead to painful irritations on the skin. And too dry air dries out the nasal mucosa, thus, normal breathing is disrupted, which also gives the baby anxiety.
  3. Develop a special sleep-inducing ritual. This can be, for example, swimming in warm water. This procedure allows not only to cleanse the baby's delicate skin, warm water soothes and relaxes. To enhance the effect, herbal decoctions can be added to the bathing bath (if not contraindicated). After such a bath, the child falls asleep much faster and wakes up less often at night.
  4. Abandon absolute silence. Many parents turn off all household appliances while laying the baby, talk in a whisper, trying to keep no sounds in the children's room. This is not an option. Absolute silence will not speed up the process of falling asleep. Moreover, a baby, getting used to absolute silence, will be more receptive to any sounds. This means that in the future it will be more difficult for him to fall asleep.
  5. Lack of bright light. When motion sickness, you need to close the curtains more tightly, turn off the main sources of lighting. In this case, there is no need to achieve complete darkness, it is enough to just eliminate the bright light, which distracts the baby, preventing him from falling asleep.
  6. White noise. The rustle of leaves, rain, pouring water, unobtrusive, light noises remind the child of the sounds he heard in the mother's womb. And this instinctively makes the baby feel calm, protected. This means that the baby will fall asleep better.
  7. Motion sickness. The most reliable, proven way to lull a baby to sleep is to swing it in your arms. To make the process less tedious, you can swing the child while sitting on a fitball or assuming a comfortable position in a chair.

If you rock the baby in your arms, constantly moving around the room, the gaze of the crumbs will be fixed on certain objects. Thus, the baby learns the world around him. This is useful, but not when falling asleep. It has been proven that if you walk clockwise with a child in your arms, the baby's eyes open wider. If you change the direction to the opposite, the effect will be different, the eyes are covered: the baby feels sleepy and falls asleep faster.
