Inconsistency of feelings in a child

anonymously, about a girl, 1 year old

My granddaughter is one and a half years old. She often confuses emotions. For example, when she is waiting for me, she stands at the door, smiling happily. And when he sees me, he cries, runs into the room, can lie on the floor. But after a couple of minutes everything is fine, she does not leave me, she expresses her joy in every possible way. What is it? Deviation in mental development?

Hello, your granddaughter is fine. It's just that young children are prone to mood swings. Sometimes a baby simply does not know how to behave and what to expect. After all, the main thing for him is that his mother is there, and that the environment remains unchanged.

The desire to attract the attention of loved ones and relatives makes them behave defiantly. Why not burst into tears and run away, or, conversely, climb on the arms and kiss. Children perceive all this as a game, in another way it is called "contradictory feelings." The emotional palette of a 1.5-2 year old child is very limited in emotions. And if he suddenly doesn't like something, he cries and hysteria, and if he is satisfied, he laughs.

We are often upset that our beloved baby, who smiled a minute ago, now screams and cries or hides in the next room. Try not to be angry with him, but always be there, showing that you are in the access zone, because the baby is watching you. And if you wait a bit, you will see that, having adapted to your presence at home, your granddaughter will definitely want to play with you and will give you her smile.
