Pain relievers for toothache for children

Toothache is one of the most unpleasant and debilitating types of pain. She is able to bring any adult to the boiling point, what can we say about children? How can you remove it to help the child quickly, efficiently and at the same time not harm his health?

Causes of occurrence

  • Tooth enamel sensitivity. It happens when the dentition of the dental neck is exposed, with neurological ailments, metabolic disorders.
  • Teething. Very unpleasant sensations in the gums in babies, starting from 4-5 months of age. In infants, gums turn red, saliva flows profusely. The toddler drags everything into his mouth and tries to scratch the sore spot using any available means.
  • Inflammation in the oral cavity. Occurs after the loss of a milk tooth or the removal of a diseased tooth.
  • Caries.
  • Pulpitis. Severe inflammation, accompanied by the appearance of a gumboil.
  • Mechanical damage (chips, complete or partial damage to the filling, injury to soft tissues).

How to help?

The best (and lasting) way to get rid of pain is to visit your dentist.

But if there is no such opportunity right now, you can start choosing a drug. All remedies for toothache are detrimental to pain mediators and reduce the sensitivity of receptors.

Today, a great variety of all kinds of painkillers are presented in pharmacies, and this only complicates the choice of parents, because the child does not want to offer a potent drug, but at the same time it is necessary to help as quickly as possible. Let's make a reservation right away, the painkillers, loved by adults, "Ketorol", "Spazgan", "Ketanov" are not suitable for children in principle.

Dental gels

This is the favorite pain reliever of young mums and dads. When a baby's teeth begin to cut, it is the gels that become the parents' “best friends”. It should be noted that topical ointments and gels, unfortunately, do not relieve acute toothache. They only for a while (about half an hour) ease the suffering of the baby.

Kamistad

Suitable for children of all ages. This product contains a tincture of chamomile flowers and an active anesthetic, lidocaine, which relieves pain and reduces swelling of the gums. Due to its rather weak anti-inflammatory effect, Kamistad is not recommended for use in case of stomatitis. The gel causes profuse salivation, and therefore it is undesirable to give it to infants, although there are no direct contraindications to this.

Calgel

The product contains antiseptics and anesthetic lidocaine. It is Calgel that is most often recommended babies with teething. However, care must be taken to ensure that the child did not swallow the gel when feeding, so that an allergy does not start. It can be applied to the gums at intervals of 20 minutes, but no more than 6 times a day.

Cholisal-gel

Dental gel that can be safely used to relieve the condition of the breast crumbs during the period when teeth are being cut. It, unlike other local preparations, penetrates deeply into the tissues, and due to its thick consistency it stays on the gums for a long time. Therefore, its analgesic effect is longer than that of others - about 2 hours.

Homeopathic remedies

These pain relievers are composed of herbal ingredients. The plus is that they are non-toxic. And the minus is that with acute pain in the case of caries or pulpitis, as well as with mechanical damage to the tooth, these remedies will be ineffective. They are designed for the systematic care of problem gums, especially during teething. They "work" cumulatively, and therefore in an emergency situation they hardly bring relief.

  • «Traumeel-S". This ointment contains a very large list of medicinal herbs - extract of calendula, daisy, belladonna, St. John's wort, yarrow. And that is not all. Manufacturers do not recommend this ointment for children under 3 years old, but experienced parents have long mastered the drug as a means of caring for the gums in babies.

  • Drops "Dentinorm Baby". Homeopathic medicine, the action of which is significantly different from ointments and gels. It penetrates inside and perfectly copes with inflammatory processes not only in the oral cavity, but also in the nasopharynx. In addition, it successfully helps with other "companions" of cutting teeth - diarrhea, for example. Allowed for children from three months of age.

Anti-inflammatory drugs

They extend their effect for 12 hours, are often used by mothers for children whose dental problems are accompanied by visible edema and fever.

  • «Ibuprofen". It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Available in various forms. Suppositories and suspensions can be used from the age of three months, tablets can be given to children from 6 years old. This is one of the safest remedies, but far from the most potent.

  • «Paracetamol". In case of toothache, the well-known "Paracetamol" can be used only if the little patient is already 3 years old. The drug relieves pain and lowers the temperature if it is elevated in a child, but, alas, its anti-inflammatory effect is minimal.

If the pain is unbearable, it is better to accept "Ibuklin". Like all non-steroidal drugs, with long-term use, "Ibuprofen" adversely affects the mucous membrane of the intestines and other digestive organs.

Pain Relief Products

«Nise», «Actasulide», «Nimulid". Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Reduce swelling, relieve pain well. The action is based on a partial blockade of a number of hormones in the brain (in particular, prostaglandin). They have an impressive list of contraindications and side effects. They are not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

«Children's Nurofen". This is the most famous and common remedy for pain relief. The release forms are different - in syrup, tablets. It begins to act within a few minutes after taking. The dosage of the drug depends on age; in general, Nurofen can be given to children from 3 months. Do not take at the same time as aspirin.

Antihistamines

  • «Fenistil". These drops are good for babies during the teething period. They quickly put the gums in order, relieve swelling, eliminate itching, and what else does the baby need? By the way, according to the parents' reviews, these drops are a kind of “record holders” in terms of speed of action among other drugs that are used to block toothache. They begin to "work" within 5-7 minutes after taking.

  • Candles "Viburkol " - they help well not only during the appearance of the first teeth, but also with other diseases. They quickly relieve pain, lower temperature, and prevent the spread of the inflammatory process.

Folk remedies

Folk remedies can harm the child, and parents often do not have time to select an effective method - the baby needs help as soon as possible.

The most "proven" by generations of grandmother's recipes:

  • Soda rinsing (with water and soda) relieves swelling and disinfects the oral cavity.
  • Gargling with a decoction of oak bark relieves pain.
  • A piece of bacon, placed on a tooth, relieves the aching pain.
  • Gruel made from chewed mint leaves relieves even severe toothache.

Additional funds

  • SPLAT pain relieving toothpastes. This is not a first aid tool, but a necessary part of daily care. These pastes restore the hard tissues of children's teeth and have an antibacterial effect.

  • Lidocaine spray. It is quickly and easily sprayed onto a sore tooth or gum area. It is used both for blocking pain syndrome and in dental treatment. It is a very convenient form if the pain overtakes the child on the road.

Almost all dental pain relievers for children do not treat the cause, but only relieve the painful symptom. They give you extra time, but you shouldn't wait to see the dentist.
