Rinomaris for children: instructions for use

Vasoconstrictor drugs are in demand for acute rhinitis and some other ENT diseases. One of these drugs is Rinomaris. It is prescribed not only for adults, but also for children of different ages, since it has a quick healing effect and rarely provokes side effects.

Release form and composition

Rinomaris is manufactured by Yadran, which also produces nasal products called Aqua Maris. The only dosage form of the drug is a spray. It is sold in plastic vials that have a spray and dispenser. Inside such a bottle there is 10 or 15 ml of a transparent solution that has no smell and color.

The main ingredient in Rinomaris is xylometazoline. It is presented in solution in the form of hydrochloride, as in many other similar drugs. As for the dosage of such a substance, it is 5 mg per 10 ml (for a 0.05% spray) or 10 mg per 10 ml (such a solution has a concentration of 0.1%).

Unlike analogues, which also act on the mucous membrane thanks to xylometazoline, "Rinomaris" also contains water from the Adriatic Sea. Its amount is about 2.5 g per 10 milliliters of medicine. Other auxiliary components of the spray are ordinary water and potassium dihydrogen phosphate.

Operating principle

Xylometazoline present in Rinomaris is capable of narrowing the vessels in the nasopharynx, thereby eliminating the swelling of the mucous membrane. Such a substance begins to act within a few minutes after irrigation of the nasal passages, therefore, relief from nasal congestion comes quickly and lasts up to 10-12 hours. In this case, the medication acts only locally, and its active substance enters the bloodstream in a scanty amount.

Thanks to the addition of seawater to the composition of "Rinomaris" additionally moisturizes the nasopharynx and has a positive effect on the production of mucus. In addition, such an auxiliary component helps to dilute the secretion, which is the prevention of complications of rhinitis. After applying the spray, congestion and swelling disappear, nasal breathing is facilitated for a long time, and the mucous membrane is protected from irritation and drying out.

Indications

"Rhinomaris" is prescribed for acute respiratory diseases, the symptom of which is a runny nose. The spray is also in demand for allergic rhinitis and is often prescribed for otitis media, eustachitis or sinusitis. Another reason for using "Rinomaris" in childhood can be diagnostic manipulation in the area of the nasal passages - the product is sprayed to facilitate the procedure.

At what age is it prescribed?

The spray with a concentration of 0.05% was developed for the treatment of children over two years old. The drug, which contains more xylometazoline (0.1% solution), can be used in patients who are 6 years old.

Treatment of infants and children 1-2 years old with "Rinomaris" is prohibited.

Contraindications

The spray is not used if the child has high blood pressure, heart palpitations, thyrotoxicosis, or glaucoma. In addition, Rinomaris is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any of its components. The drug is not prescribed if the doctor has diagnosed rhinitis, in which the mucous membrane has atrophied. If the patient has undergone surgery on the membranes of the brain, treatment with such a spray should also be abandoned. In diabetes mellitus, Rinomaris is used with caution.

Side effects

If the solution is used too often or for more than 7 days, it can cause dryness and irritation, the appearance of discomfort (tingling, burning), frequent sneezing, swelling, or heavy discharge.

In some patients, Rinomaris provokes tachycardia, nausea, sleep disturbances, headaches and other negative symptoms, which require a doctor's consultation.

Application

Instructions for use recommend taking the drug as follows.

  • Patients two to six years old are injected with only 0.05% Rinomaris. The frequency of drug use at this age is 1 or 2 times a day, and a single dosage for each nasal passage is one press on the spray.
  • If the child is already six years old, then it is permissible to use "Rinomaris" in both concentrations for treatment. In this case, the medicine is used 2-3 times a day, and the solution is injected into each nostril with one press.
  • The duration of using "Rinomaris" should not exceed 7 days. Most often, the drug is used within 5-7 days.

Overdose and drug interactions

Exceeding the dose of the drug can also provoke a negative local reaction (increased swelling and discharge from the nose, sneezing, drying out of the mucous membrane, and so on), and the occurrence of general side effects, for example, increased blood pressure, vomiting, arrhythmia, blurred vision or insomnia.

Rinomaris is incompatible with tricyclic antidepressants and drugs that inhibit MAO, so the spray should not be prescribed either with them or for some time after their use.

Terms of sale and storage

Rinomaris is sold without a prescription and costs an average of 160 rubles per bottle.

You need to store the medicine at home in a place hidden from a small child. There is no need to put the bottle in the refrigerator, since the manufacturer's recommended storage temperature is up to +25 degrees. The shelf life of the drug is 3 years.

Reviews and analogues

Almost all reviews of Rinomaris are positive. They call the spray convenient to use, effective for a runny nose and congestion. The drug is mostly tolerated well, and most mothers call the price of the drug affordable. Among its disadvantages, a small volume of solution in a bottle and restrictions on the duration of use are sometimes mentioned.

If there is no Rinomaris in the pharmacy, you can replace this spray with another medicine containing xylometazoline. It can be Otrivin, Xilen, Snoop, Farmazolin, Rinostop or another drug in the form of a spray or nasal drops.

If the child has an intolerance to the active substance "Rinomaris", the doctor will prescribe a vasoconstrictor with a different composition, for example, "Nazol Baby", "Nazivin", "Vibrocil", "Afrin" or "Sialor Rino". But, since they act thanks to different substances, you should not choose such an analogue for treating a child on your own.
