Clearblue Electronic Pregnancy Test

If a woman notices in herself the signs that occur during pregnancy, she wants to quickly find out about her condition. It is now easy to do this at home by purchasing one of the pregnancy tests. They differ in both cost and method of application. One of the most accurate and convenient at the moment is the Clearblue digital test. It has several significant differences from conventional test strips, thanks to which a woman gets a quick and reliable result.

Features:

The Clearblue electronic test is an elongated plastic disposable instrument with a digital display. At one end, there is an absorbent strip hidden under the blue tip. It is a highly sensitive indicator that reacts to the presence of a certain hormonal substance in the urine. The test is placed in a hermetically sealed foil casing and then in a cardboard box.

Thanks to this device, a woman is able to accurately determine the fact of pregnancy. Diagnosis is the same as with conventional test strips or trickle tests, as the digital Clearblue detects the level of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) that is actively released after conception.

Immediately after contact with urine, an hourglass icon appears on the display to indicate adequate test performance. After processing the information, the screen appears a clear result, and with a positive test, the gestational age.

Key benefits of the Clearblue electronic test.

  • Great sensitivity. The use of the device, like any other pregnancy tests, is recommended from the first day of the delay. However, the Clear Blue test system can be used earlier - from the 4th day until the expected menstruation. The test will show a positive result if the level of hCG exceeds 25 mIU in 1 milliliter of urine.
  • Convenience of testing. It is possible to perform manipulation with urine previously collected in a dry clean glass, and simply by placing the end of the device under the stream. At the same time, it is convenient to do the test both at home and in any other place.
  • Ease of decoding the result. A woman does not have to guess and consider fuzzy stripes, doubting the result of testing. With Clear Blue, she immediately sees "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant."
  • Possibility of determining the gestational age. If the test is positive, the woman can immediately know the number of weeks since conception. The device will calculate it based on the level of the hormonal substance in the woman's urine. However, it is important to note that this is not an obstetric term, which is determined by gynecologists in the antenatal clinic, because it is counted from the last menstruation.

High accuracy. According to the manufacturer, the test detects hCG with an accuracy of 99%. As for the accuracy of determining the gestational age, it is 92%.

Instructions for use

Before using the Clearblue Digital Test, please read the package insert that comes with your device. It contains all the necessary information, supplemented by pictures. Easy-to-understand illustrations and a list of possible questions help you avoid common test mistakes.

According to the manufacturer, testing is possible at any time of the day, starting from the first day of the delay. However, for the result to be more accurate, and also if the study is performed before the expected start date of menstruation, it is better to take morning urine for the test. In addition, it is not recommended to drink a lot of fluids before the examination.

Testing is done like this:

  • after opening the package, the test is removed and released from the blue cap;
  • the tip is placed under the stream of urine for 5 seconds (this must be done carefully so that urine gets only on the absorbent part, but does not wet other parts of the test);
  • if pre-collected urine is used, the tip is lowered into a container with biological material for 20 seconds;
  • after putting on the cap, the test system is placed on a horizontal surface or it is held with the tip down until 3 minutes have passed;
  • After waiting for the required time, the result is checked on the screen, which will be fixed for 24 hours.

Before discarding a used test, you must remove the battery from it, which must be disposed of according to the rules. Electronic Clearblue must not be reused. Storage of unused dough is recommended at + 2- + 30 degrees. If the wrapper of the device is damaged, testing with it is undesirable.

Decoding the result

First, words appear on the display to confirm pregnancy or to indicate its absence. If you see "Not pregnant" in the window, it means that the level of human chorionic gonadotropin is not increased and there is no pregnancy, or testing was done too early. If the word "pregnant" first appeared on the screen, and then numbers appeared, the result is interpreted as follows:

  • "Pregnant 1-2" - there is a pregnancy, and the conception was about 1–2 weeks ago, that is, the obstetric period is 3-4 weeks;
  • "Pregnant 2-3" - pregnancy confirmed, conception presumably occurred 2-3 weeks ago, obstetric term is 4-5 weeks;
  • "Pregnant 3+" - there is a pregnancy, and conception occurred 3 weeks ago or earlier, so the obstetric period will be more than 5 weeks.

Could it be wrong?

Incorrect Clearblue Digital Test results are possible in the same way that any other pregnancy tests are wrong. A false negative result is possible if:

  • the test was carried out too early (this often happens with an irregular menstrual cycle), and the hCG level is so low that the sensor did not catch it;
  • the woman has kidney disease that affects the level of the hormone in the urine;
  • implantation of the ovum is impaired and pregnancy does not develop;
  • the woman drank too much water before testing;
  • the patient is being treated with diuretics;
  • the woman has some gynecological diseases.

In all these cases, the test will show "Not pregnant", but this result does not exclude the presence of pregnancy. To recheck, if menstruation has not begun, the test must be repeated, and if it again showed a negative result, you should consult a doctor.

There are also false positive tests if:

  • the woman had ovulation stimulation with hormonal drugs;
  • high hCG levels due to a neoplasm, such as a tumor of the uterus or ovary;
  • the woman was recently pregnant and had an abortion or miscarriage.

If the book icon appears on the screen, then the testing was not performed correctly. This situation is possible if, after contact with urine, the tip was turned upwards, too little or, on the contrary, too much urine got on the absorbent part.

In these cases, retesting with a new device is recommended as the Clearblue test is not reusable. The use of a new test is also necessary in case of a blank screen error, if the window does not display any information (after contact with biological fluid, there is no blinking hourglass icon).

Reviews

Most reviews of the Clearblue Digital Early Pregnancy Diagnostic Device are positive. This test is called simple and reliable, and its results are often confirmed by ultrasound. In most cases, when using such a device, a quick and reliable result is obtained. One of the main advantages is the ability to test with Clear Blue at any time of the day and anywhere.

Its disadvantages usually include only high cost, because the average price of one device in pharmacies is 350-400 rubles. However, many women note that when using conventional test strips, as a rule, several tests need to be carried out, so the costs are commensurate, but the electronic version of Clearblue does not deliver worries and inconveniences. But still, many women, due to the high price, choose conventional tests, because they have the same method of determining pregnancy.

There are also some negative reviews in which women complain about incorrect results. Indeed, Even if all recommendations are followed, sometimes the Clearblue test shows a negative result after a positive one. This situation is possible if the pregnancy is terminated early.

As statistics show and the manufacturer notes in the instructions, this is possible in 1 in 4 pregnancies. At the same time, the fetus is not fixed, leaving the uterus along with bloody discharge, and the woman perceives such changes as another menstruation. However, this does not at all indicate an incorrect diagnosis.

Women who are looking forward to pregnancy quite often choose the Clearblue digital test to confirm conception.

Doctors also call it a convenient and most suitable option for expectant mothers. According to them, with such a device, the result is confirmed in a couple of minutes, it is very accurate and will tell you the gestational age, while cheaper and simpler tests are more often mistaken and unable to calculate a low level of human chorionic gonadotropin.
