In this article we will tell you about its rules, advantages, as well as how to make a puzzle yourself.

Description

Today, geometric puzzle games are very popular, especially for preschoolers. "Columbus Egg" is one of the most popular.

Logic puzzle "Columbus Egg" appeared in the distant 1893. Its creator is engineer Friedrich Richter. For making, he used quartz sand, gypsum and linseed oil.

The first version of the puzzle consisted of 9 parts, of which, using all the elements, 95 figures could be folded.

Why is this game so popular? This is because it contributes to the development of babies:

  • logical thinking;
  • hand motor skills;
  • sensory abilities and spatial representation;
  • fantasy;
  • independence;
  • leadership qualities;
  • ingenuity and ingenuity;
  • self-control.

When a child is engaged in such puzzles, he learns to make decisions, his mental activity is activated, and most importantly, both hemispheres of the brain work simultaneously, which will be very useful to him in life in the future.

The main figure in the game "Columbus Egg" is an oval, which is divided into a certain number of elements - geometric shapes. So the puzzle consists of:

  • four triangles - 2 large, 2 small;
  • two trapezoids, the base of which is rounded;
  • four figures that resemble a triangle in shape - two of these figures are small, the other two are large, one of the sides is rounded.

To make the puzzle interesting for the child, the manufacturer paints each element in a separate color.

So you can not only play with the figures, but also learn colors, and learn the geometric shapes themselves, if the kid does not know them yet.

Rules of the game

Considering the fact that the "Columbus Egg" is designed for children aged 3 years and older, we can assume that the rules of the game are quite simple and straightforward.

Its essence and purpose is for the kid to learn to perceive the figures and lay them out using the details of the puzzle. But remember, the child will not be able to master the rules and understand what and how to do on his own, he needs help.

The help is as follows:

  • consider the game and all its details with the child, say the name of the shapes and colors;
  • teach your child to look for similar elements, combine them;
  • try to nudge the baby to fantasize - compare individual details with some familiar things, for example, triangles with a rounded one side are like bird wings;
  • invite your child to fold several shapes.

If you work through all the above stages and help your child understand and delve into the game, it will certainly captivate him.

General rules

  • Choose one of the schemes (they are included). If your baby is still tiny, start with a simple image.
  • Using absolutely all elements, lay out a similar figure. To begin with, you can lay out directly on the diagram, it's easier, and when the child's skill grows, let it lay out next to it.
  • Elements cannot be superimposed on each other. Details are installed joint to joint.

From the details of the game, you can add a frog, an ostrich, a rhinoceros, an airplane, a camel, a dog, a turtle and many more different animals, birds, objects.

You should not dwell on the proposed options, develop your imagination and collect unique figures invented by you.

How to do it?

If you do not have time to go shopping in search of this logical constructor, you can make it yourself at home. To make this game yourself, you need to choose a scheme, prepare material and tools.

Schemes

The Columbian egg and the patterns according to which the figures will be formed can be taken from our article and printed.

  • The first is the most popular option. Below is a picture for downloading and printing. We used it in our master class.

  • Complicating it would be to offer a borderless scheme.

  • Thick cardboard or plastic (for example, a cover from a folder for documents). A base is created from this material - an oval, and, accordingly, individual parts will be cut.
  • Tool to cut out elements. If you use thick cardboard, you will need scissors, if plastic, you also need to buy a stationery knife - it is convenient for them to cut.

When the inventory is ready, you can start making the puzzle. On the basis, you need to draw an oval, the standard size of which is 15x12 centimeters. But you can choose another - the larger the initial oval scheme, the larger all the details will be. After that, the oval must be divided into 10 parts, each of which is presented in the form of a geometric figure. All elements are cut out and the game is ready.
