Is sexual intercourse dangerous after conceiving a child?

Questions of intimate life are quite acute for couples who are planning a pregnancy. If the long-awaited conception took place, there are even more incomprehensible moments. First of all, it is not always clear for couples whether further sexual relations are safe, whether they will harm the baby. We will tell you about whether it is possible to have sex after conception in this article.

Changes in intimate life during pregnancy

If fertilization has taken place, it is too early to talk about pregnancy. The fertilized egg should be able to attach to the wall of the uterus, and only after implantation occurs on the 8-9 day after ovulation, can we say that the woman is pregnant.

These processes are microscopic, occurring at the cellular level. Parental sex cannot harm the fertilized egg in any way, because it is reliably protected and located in the depths of the female body.

Do not think that giving up sexual intercourse at this stage will increase the chances of implantation - this is not the case. How successful the attachment of the ovum to the endometrium will be depends only on the state of the endometrium, the hormonal background of the potential mother and the usefulness of the embryo. In this way, in the first days after the alleged conception, there are no prohibitions on intimate contacts.

After implantation, the hormonal background changes in the woman's body, symptoms of early toxicosis may appear. Against this background, a woman's sexual desires usually recede into the background - nausea and dizziness do not contribute to relaxation and love joys.

If there is no toxicosis, again, there is no reason to refuse sex.

From about the 12th week of pregnancy, a young placenta begins to function in a woman, the amount of blood circulating in the body of the expectant mother increases by almost half. The flow of blood to the genitals, as well as the softening of the mucous membranes under the influence of the pregnancy hormone progesterone, stimulates a stronger sexual desire.

Thus, from the end of the first trimester to the middle of the third (and for some - before childbirth!), A woman experiences a strong sexual desire, brighter orgasmic sensations, and some admit that it was during the gestation of a baby that they first experienced a full orgasm.

As for men, this is where the root of the problem often lies. Not all representatives of the strong half of humanity are morally and psychologically ready for sex with a pregnant woman. For some reason, husbands often believe that their actions can harm the child, hinder him. Some admit that the feeling that someone else is present during intercourse prevents them from relaxing, and this interferes.

Many men simply do not dare to ask their wife for sexual intercourse, given her "interesting position", because they are brought up that way. From this point of view, this article is intended more for men than for their wives.

Influence of sex

Sexual "relaxation" is as necessary for a person as food, sleep, water, air. The procreation instinct is one of the main ones, and there is nothing you can do about it. A pregnant woman is no exception. She feels a desire for intimacy, needs to experience an orgasm, release, relaxation, positive emotions associated with sex. A man should not forget about it. If there are no medical contraindications, sex after conception and while carrying a baby is not only possible, but also necessary. Is he:

  • promotes the production of endorphins (the so-called hormones of happiness), which has a positive effect on the mood of the expectant mother, her well-being and the well-being of the baby;
  • allows the uterus to make light "training" contractions during orgasm, which, among other things, stimulate the blood supply to the placenta and the flow of more nutrients and oxygen to the baby;
  • in late pregnancy, unprotected sex promotes cervical maturation due to prostaglandins contained in semen;
  • favorably affects family relationships, trust, intimacy, a high sensory sphere, which is necessary for a pregnant woman.

These are all compelling arguments for having sex in pregnancy.

No religion in the world has clear instructions on the prohibition of sex with a pregnant wife, no philosophical doctrine supports such a restriction, no doctor will ever prohibit sexual relations for spouses if the pregnancy proceeds without complications and force majeure.

If one of the spouses cannot overcome the psychological barrier, it is worth contacting a psychologist. This is a more correct way, because it is better to try to establish normal intimate relationships during pregnancy than to divorce and leave the baby without a father if he “goes to the left” due to his own sexual dissatisfaction.

When is sex dangerous?

Sex can only be prohibited by the attending physician on the basis of irrefutable medical indications. These indications include:

  • pregnancy after IVF;
  • pregnancy with twins or triplets with a burdened history;
  • low placentation or placenta previa;
  • isthmic-cervical insufficiency (cervical incompetence);
  • the threat of miscarriage or premature birth;
  • leakage of amniotic fluid;
  • exit of the mucous plug from the cervical canal in the last weeks of pregnancy;
  • the presence of sexually transmitted infections, sexually transmitted diseases in partners.

A woman should also listen to her own feelings on her own. If the stomach hurts, there is a pulling back pain, unusual (usually brown or bloody) discharge from the genital tract, then it is better to refrain from intimate relationships, see a doctor and ask him about their safety in the future.

Sex safety

If conception has occurred and the pregnancy is desired, then the couple will have to comply with some restrictions:

  • do not use lubricants and sex toys;
  • avoid positions with deep penetration, especially after 6-7 weeks of pregnancy;
  • when the belly appears, avoid poses that imply pressure on it;
  • temporarily give up anal sex in order to exclude the penetration of intestinal bacteria into the genital tract and not cause additional problems with constipation and hemorrhoids;
  • avoid sudden movements and high intensity of frictions.
