How can you smoothly wean a child with ADHD from breastfeeding?

anonymously, about a girl, 1 year old

Good day, Natalia! Not so long ago, a neurologist questioned my daughter (2 years old) with ADHD. The girl was born prematurely, from birth there were problems with sleep (she slept less than normal, fell asleep very badly at home during the day), hypertonicity, SDF. We are on HB, now applying for daytime and nighttime sleep, during sleep it is applied to the chest several times. I tried to clean up feedings for a daytime sleep by means of explanations and persuasion - as a result, long tantrums, refusal to sleep during the day in general, problems with night sleep began. Prescribed drugs to improve the situation (phenibut, magneB6), but the problem was not resolved. He sleeps well during the day only in a stroller on the street or in a car ... or at home with a breast. How can HW be removed smoothly? In the fall, I want to start taking to kindergarten for half a day, because the girl is very uncommunicative, does not want to play with other children together, she only watches them, plays only with me and requires attention constantly (because of this, household chores or a child suffer, if I deny her attention because of cooking, for example). In this regard, there is a question of weaning, or at least from feeding for a daytime sleep. Perhaps from your experience you can suggest how best to proceed? I would be very grateful for your advice!

First of all, the period when you want to stop breastfeeding should be calm for you and your baby. Moreover, if the child has hypertonicity and sleep problems, you can continue to use the drugs prescribed by the neurologist. It is better to avoid stressful situations, as this will only provoke the baby to hepatitis B, because it is not only a source of nutrition for the child, but also a means of calming.

Secondly, choosing the season, it is better to stay in the cooler months, since in hot weather the child will constantly ask for a drink (but this is optional).

Be sure to monitor your baby and his health. During illness or even a common cold, feeding cannot be completed. It is best to end the GW with a phased reduction of daytime and then nighttime feeding, but this is individual.

Many people have difficulty with night feeding. To wean your baby from night feeds, one to two weeks before stopping feeding come up with some kind of ritual, which you will spend before going to bed: you can give your baby warm milk or kefir or tell him a bedtime story. Involve your husband or grandmother when laying the baby.

When weaning your baby, try to encourage the baby's independence as often as possible, give him a spoon, the example of older children in a family or from friends is well suited.

A lot also depends on the psychological mood of the mother herself, because it is so difficult to tear the baby away from herself, many perceive it on an emotional level.

Try to set yourself up to complete this feeding phase, but you will still be giving your baby warmth and affection in other tactile ways. And the habit of fiddling with the chest after the termination of hepatitis B will pass over time, the main thing is not to abruptly cut off at the very beginning, but, if possible, reduce these moments by switching attention. It goes without saying that you should wear closed shirts.

You can try to replace those moments when the baby asks for a breast with a cup and, of course, constantly switch attention, play. These methods are more or less gentle. But if all the same they do not help, use folk methods: anoint the chest with brilliant green or wormwood and let it try, of course, there will be tantrums, but without them in any way.

Put the baby in the stroller, you can give a bottle of water for a while, experience has proven: 3 days of tantrums - and the child calmly refuses to feed.

I think you will be able to find the most gentle way to complete the GW for your baby.

Try to complete the GW before adapting to the kindergarten. An afternoon nap can be spent outside in the summer in an unusual environment for a child, since it is there that she does not require a breast. Then gradually transfer to sleep at home, possibly using a stroller.

The girl has a very sensitive nervous system. In addition, breastfeeding very much ties the baby to the mother. Usually, after its completion, children become more independent, their sleep and appetite improve.

All the best!
