In our country, he gained fame under the brand name "Sumamed".

Sumamed tablets also include auxiliary components - food additives and stabilizers, which maintain the effectiveness of the drug. The composition of the powder also includes natural sweeteners, colors and flavors.

Operating principle

Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, it is able to counteract various bacterial infections and viruses. When interacting with the causative agent of the disease "Sumamed" suppresses protein synthesis of a harmful microorganism, which prevents the infection from spreading in the patient's body.

Azithromycin is equally effective on various types of staphylococcus, chlamydia, mycoplasma, streptococci, microorganisms resistant to antibiotics of the penicillin series, as well as intracellular pathogens.

Indications

The properties of azithromycin make it possible to use it in the treatment of both viral and bacterial infections. The so-called cold, when a child becomes ill after hypothermia, is associated with bacterial infections that develop due to a decrease in immunity. One of the formidable manifestations of such infections is angina, including purulent.

Angina is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the throat with involvement of the tonsils. In children, pus often appears on the tonsils. Doctors distinguish between several types of purulent tonsillitis - follicular, lacunar, film, and others. They differ in where the pus collects on the tonsils.

"Sumamed" is able to successfully cope with this disease in any form, since most often angina is caused by staphylococci or streptococci, in some cases - hemophilic bacillus. All these pathogens are well suppressed by azithromycin.

At what age is it prescribed?

"Sumamed forte" is approved for use for the treatment of babies from 6 months. Tablets "Sumamed" can be given to children from 3 years old, but only if the child's weight is more than 18 kg.

Sometimes the doctor can prescribe pills to children under 3 years old, or if the body weight is less than 18 kg, but only according to individual indications - if the benefits of using the medicine outweigh the potential harm from it.

Contraindications

Do not use Sumamed tablets in children under 3 years old and weighing less than 18 kg, suspension - in babies less than 6 months old. Also, you cannot treat a baby with this drug if he has hypersensitivity or intolerance to the main or auxiliary substances of the drug.

Use "Sumamed" with caution in any form in babies who suffer from heart disease, tend to arrhythmias. Warn the doctor about the presence of the disease if he wants to prescribe Sumamed.

Side effects

When treating children with "Sumamed", side effects may occur, regardless of the form of application of the drug. The instructions for use list possible side effects such as headache, dizziness, poor sleep, decreased appetite. If the child is young, parents need to pay attention to frequent crying, restless sleep, or constant awakening at night. Hives, rashes may also appear.

The practice of using "Sumamed" shows that unwanted symptoms are extremely rare. If one of the side effects does appear, you need to stop taking the medication and consult a doctor.

Instructions for use

The likelihood of side effects and overdose is reduced if the instructions for use of the drug are strictly followed.

Children from 6 years old are prescribed a suspension. The dosage of the medicine is calculated based on the weight of the child.

You need to take the suspension once a day for 3 days. After taking the medicine, the child should be given water or other drink to wash off any medicine left in his mouth. "Sumamed" should be taken one hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Children from 3 years old can be given 125 mg Sumamed tablets if the child knows how to swallow them.

The course of treatment should not exceed three days.

Overdose

If the drug was used incorrectly during the treatment of angina, an overdose is possible. It manifests itself as an increase in the symptoms of side effects and requires immediate discontinuation of the medication. In case of an overdose, you should immediately seek medical help, and if the child is small, call an ambulance. Overdose symptoms are treated as directed and under the supervision of a physician. You do not need to self-medicate, it will only worsen the child's condition.

Interaction with other drugs

Azithromycin is an active substance that can interact with a large number of drugs. If a doctor prescribes treatment with "Sumamed", parents need to tell about all the medications the baby is taking or took in the recent past. Based on this information, the doctor will decide whether to use "Sumamed".

In addition, parents need to know that antacid drugs, for example, "Almagel", "Rennie", "Gastal" and even plain soda, can slow down the absorption of azithromycin and reduce the effectiveness of the drug. If a child needs to take these medications, an interval of at least an hour should be made between doses, and preferably 2 hours.

Also, the intake of antibiotics is not combined with sorbents, which are able to quickly remove them from the body, interfering with absorption.

Terms of sale and storage

Like other antibiotics, Sumamed and Sumamed Forte are sold only by prescription. At home, keep the medicine out of the reach of children to avoid accidental intake by the child. The shelf life of the tablets is 3 years, and the shelf life of the suspension powder is 2 years if the bottle is sealed. You can store the finished suspension for only 5 days.

Reviews

"Sumamed" and "Sumamed forte" will quickly help with angina, even purulent. This is evidenced by the reviews of parents who treated babies with an antibiotic. So, in a child of 1 year 11 months, "Sumamed" defeated purulent sore throat in a neglected form. The doctor did not immediately make the correct diagnosis and for several days the child received inadequate treatment, and the baby's condition was constantly deteriorating.

Already 12 hours after the first drug intake, my mother noticed clear signs of improvement: the body temperature returned to normal, the child stopped being capricious, constantly crying, slept well, and ate well. After 3 days of admission, there was no trace of purulent sore throat.

Analogs

Azithromycin is a popular antibiotic, therefore Sumamed has several analogues in terms of its active ingredient: Zintromax, Zintrolide, Azitral, Azirox and others. According to the therapeutic effect, other antibiotics are analogous to Sumamed.
