Tablets "Sumamed" for children: instructions for use

The use of "Sumamed" tablets 125 mg in children gives excellent results, as evidenced by the reviews of parents. This drug is able to cure green snot and bronchitis, relieve a lingering cough. But only a doctor can prescribe an antibiotic.

Release form

Sumamed is available in tablets of 125 and 500 mg, as well as in the form of capsules of 250 mg. Tablets of lower dosage and capsules are packed in blisters of 6 pieces, and tablets of higher dosage - in blisters of 3 pieces.

Composition

"Sumamed" includes one active ingredient - a semi-synthetic antibiotic azithromycin dihydrate, which is often called simply azithromycin. It was synthesized over 35 years ago, in 1980. Since then, azithromycin has been included in widely used drugs both in Europe and the USA, and in Russia.

Sumamed tablets contain auxiliary components: calcium hydrogen phosphate, several types of starch, microcellulose, magnesium stearate. Some of these substances are food additives, others are designed to maintain the effectiveness of the main active ingredient throughout the shelf life.

Operating principle

Azithromycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is able to fight infections that cause various organisms, including anaerobic, receiving energy without the presence of oxygen, intracellular and many others, in contrast to specialized antibiotics, which act against a specific type or group of infections.

When it enters the human body, azithromycin suppresses protein synthesis in pathogens, as a result of which they lose their ability to reproduce. Thus, the infection ceases to invade new human cells and gradually dies.

An important quality of azithromycin is its ability to penetrate cell membranes. Moreover, studies show that the concentration of the antibiotic in the foci of infection is several times higher than its average content in the blood of a person taking the drug. This explains high efficiency of the drug against many diseases.

However, there are pathogens that initially, and not as a result of addiction, demonstrate resistance to azithromycin. These are, for example, some types of staphylococci. The half-life from blood plasma is 35-50 hours, from tissues - longer. The drug is excreted through the kidneys and intestines.

Indications

Due to its ability to act on many types of infectious agents, azithromycin is used to treat a wide range of diseases. For example, in children "Sumamedom" treats infectious diseases of the nasopharynx and upper respiratory tract: tonsillitis, sinusitis, rhinitis, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis.

"Sumamed" is prescribed for children with lower respiratory tract infections. It can be: acute bronchitis or exacerbation of chronic, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Lyme disease responds well to treatment with Sumamed. The drug is also effective for soft tissue infections. Sexually transmitted diseases such as chladmiiosis are much worse for treatment. In adolescents, this drug is used to treat severe to moderate acne.

At what age is it prescribed?

It is possible to give Sumamed tablets to children from the age of 3 with a body weight of more than 18 kg. If the child is younger or weighs less, then it is better to give him a children's format - a suspension "Sumamed Forte", prepared from powder.

In some cases, the doctor may prescribe an antibiotic for a child under 3 years old, but only on individual indications and under supervision.

It is not recommended to give antibiotics to children of any age on their own.

Contraindications

It is impossible to take "Sumamed" at any age, if the patient previously had an individual sensitivity or even intolerance to any component of the drug. It can be either azithromycin or one of the auxiliary components. With caution, "Sumamed" is prescribed to children with impaired liver or kidney function.

Children under 12 years of age are not prescribed Sumamed tablets 500 mg, since the dosage of the main component in them is too high and is designed for adolescents and adults.

If a child has a heart disease, he undergoes appropriate treatment, takes medications, has a tendency to arrhythmias, then when prescribing Sumamed, you need to warn the doctor about it.

Side effects

In some cases, when taking "Sumamed" there are side effects. Most often they are associated with individual sensitivity to the drug, but they also appear in other cases.

A parent needs to be attentive to the appearance of dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, and poor sleep in a child taking the drug. If the child is small and cannot clearly formulate the complaint, then you need to pay attention to anxiety, frequent crying, refusal of the usual food.

An older child may also complain of visual impairment, when objects lose clarity, tinnitus, hearing impairment, abdominal pain, which are accompanied by flatulence, belching, sometimes nausea and even vomiting.

Some children develop shortness of breath, nosebleeds, or hives. Often, children complain of back pain, neck pain, fatigue, and general malaise. In severe cases, there is swelling of the face, flushing, chest pain, hepatitis and jaundice.

If a child has one of the listed or any other uncharacteristic symptom, parents, even if they do not associate it with taking the drug, should stop treatment with Sumamed and seek medical help. Only a doctor will be able to compare the symptoms with taking the drug, prescribe the appropriate tests and decide whether these signs are a consequence of taking the medicine or are caused by other reasons.

Instructions for use

The exact dosage of the drug contains instructions for use. Let's list them in the table.

Table. Dosage of the drug "Sumamed"

These dosages are given to children with infections that affect the respiratory tract, nasopharynx, soft tissues and skin. If a child suffers from tonsillitis or pharyngitis, as a rule, a dosage is prescribed, calculated according to the formula: 20 mg per 1 kg of body weight per day.

The course of treatment should not exceed three days.

Overdose

In case of an overdose of "Sumamed", there is an increase in the symptoms of side effects. Most often, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract are manifested: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. In case of overdose, you should immediately stop taking the medication and seek medical help.

Interaction with other drugs

Azithromycin is able to interact with many drugs. If a doctor prescribes Sumamed for a child, it is imperative to warn about taking other medications. Treatment may need to be adjusted. For example, you should not take the medicine at the same time as antacids, as this reduces the azithrocin content in the blood by 30%. Accordingly, the effectiveness of treatment also decreases. In the same time you cannot increase the dosage of the antibiotic.

If treatment with antacids is necessary, at least 1 hour should pass between doses, optimally 2 hours.

You cannot take "Sumamed" to a child at the same time as other antibiotics. Tell the doctor that the child is already taking or has recently taken a course of such drugs.

Terms of sale and storage

Despite the popularity of the drug Sumamed, it is dispensed in pharmacies by prescription, like most antibiotics. This is due to the fact that uncontrolled intake of medication can be harmful to health.

At home, the drug is stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 C, that is, it does not need to be placed in the refrigerator, it is enough to store it in any cool place. The shelf life of the tablets is 3 years from the date of release. The production date is indicated on the tablet packaging and blister. Do not treat children with an expired medicine.

Reviews

Parents who treated their children with Sumamed leave positive reviews about the drug on the respective sites. For example, a case is described when a school-age child (7 years old) was treated for about 2 weeks with various drugs, including antiviral and symptomatic, but the health did not improve. After a three-day course of taking Sumamed, the student recovered and began to attend classes. The remains of the cough disappeared after about a week without additional treatment.

There is another case as well. A 4-year-old child fell ill on New Year's Eve. The doctor's initial diagnosis was SARS, which meant a spoiled holiday for the whole family. High fever, green snot, cough - a complete set of symptoms of this disease. At the second visit, the diagnosis was changed to "bronchitis", the doctor prescribed "Sumamed". The improvement came in just a few hours, the body temperature returned to normal - the child met the New Year healthy.

Analogs

According to the active substance, Sumamed analogs are drugs "Azitral", "Azithromycin" and some others. Sometimes they write that the analogue of Sumamed is Flemoxin Solutab, but this is not entirely true. The drug is based on another active ingredient, but it is also an antibiotic and is used in the treatment of various infections. At the same time, the price of Flemoxin Solutab averages about 500 rubles, and Sumamed 125 mg - about 350 rubles.
