Grammidin for children

For diseases of the throat and mouth, medications are very popular and often used, which must be absorbed in the mouth. One of them is Grammidin. It is a two-ingredient formulation designed to fight inflammation, infection, and sore throat. Grammidin for children is produced especially for children. Is it allowed at an early age, when is it used, and what analogs can be replaced if necessary?

Release form

Grammidin comes in the form of white (sometimes marbled) tablets that smell like raspberries. They have a round shape and have a GR inscription on one side. One blister can contain either 6 or 9 tablets. One carton pack contains 12, 18 or 24 tablets.

Composition

The action of Grammidin is provided by two active ingredients at once:

  1. Gramicidin C. Such a substance is presented in the preparation in the form of dihydrochloride, but its dose in terms of the active ingredient is 1.5 mg per 1 tablet.
  2. Cetylpyridinium chloride. The amount of this component in one tablet is 1 mg.

They are complemented by excipients such as citric acid (represented by monohydrate), sorbitol and aspartame. In addition, the tablets contain magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxide and talc. The raspberry flavoring gives a pleasant smell to the medicine. All these additional components are important to consider if tablets are prescribed for an allergic person.

Operating principle

Grammidin belongs to combined drugs with an antiseptic and antibacterial effect.

Its healing effect is due to the following features of its ingredients:

  1. Gramicidin C in the composition of tablets is an antimicrobial substance that affects the cytoplasmic membranes in the cells of harmful microorganisms. Such an antibiotic increases their permeability, as a result of which the resistance of the membrane is violated, and microbial cells die. At the same time, gramicidin C has a very wide range of effects on both gram-positive microorganisms and gram-negative flora.
  2. The second active component of the drug - cetylpyridinium chloride - has antiseptic properties, due to which it helps gramicidin C to eliminate infectious agents in the oral cavity, inhibiting their reproduction and growth. This substance also has anti-inflammatory effects.

When the tablets are absorbed, the medication not only inhibits pathogens and reduces the severity of the inflammatory process, but also stimulates more active salivation. As a result of this hypersalivation, swallowing is facilitated, and the discomfort in the throat is alleviated. Thus, the oral cavity is additionally mechanically cleaned of bacteria and their toxins.

Indications

The drug is recommended to dissolve in case of painful sensations in the throat and oral cavity, if they are one of the symptoms of infection of the oropharynx.

Grammidin is in demand for:

  • Stomatitis.
  • Gingivitis.
  • Angina.
  • Laryngitis.
  • Periodontitis.
  • Tonsillitis.
  • Pharyngitis.
  • Laryngopharyngitis.

From what age is it allowed to take?

In the instructions for the children's version of Grammidin, it is noted that the medication is not used in children under four years of age. If the child is not yet 4 years old, it is better to use other medicines in his treatment.

Contraindications

The tablets are not given not only to children under 4 years old, but also to a child with hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the medicine. Also, you should not prescribe this medication for phenylketonuria, because its composition includes aspartame. In addition, it is not recommended to dissolve Grammidin for children with open wounds in the oral cavity, since cetylpyrinium chloride will slow down the healing process. For adults, the drug is not prescribed during breastfeeding.

Side effects

The use of Grammidin for children can provoke indigestion in the form of diarrhea or nausea. In addition, some children may have an allergic reaction to this medicine. The occurrence of these signs of intolerance should be the reason for going to the doctor and replacing the tablets with another medication.

Instructions for use and dosage

  • The drug is given to the child only after a meal.
  • The tablet should be kept in the mouth for a long time so that it dissolves very slowly and affects the mucous membrane.
  • You should not chew such a medicine, as this will affect its therapeutic effect.
  • After the medication is completely dissolved, you should not eat or drink anything for at least 1 hour, and preferably within 2 hours.
  • In childhood, Grammidin is given 4 times a day.
  • For a child 4-12 years old, a single dosage will be one tablet.
  • Children over 12 years old are given two tablets at one time. The second is used 20-30 minutes after the child has sucked the first pill.
  • The maximum allowable dose of the drug per day for children under 12 years old is four tablets, and for a teenager over 12 years old - 8 tablets.
  • If the child takes the medication for a week and no positive effect of the medication is observed, you should consult a doctor.

Overdose

If you exceed the recommended daily dose of tablets, this will adversely affect the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, since it can cause changes in the intestinal bacterial microflora. The result will be nausea, loose stools, or vomiting. When such symptoms appear, the pills are immediately canceled and contact the pediatrician.

Interaction with other drugs

There is no data on any incompatibility of Grammidin with other drugs. Such a medication is often prescribed in combination with other drugs, for example, for tonsillitis, a child is prescribed Grammidin for children and Tonsilgon N at the same time.

Terms of sale

Pediatric Grammidin is classified as an over-the-counter medication, so it is readily available at most pharmacies. The average price of a pack of 18 tablets is 220-230 rubles.

Storage features

Keep Grammidin at the children's home in a dry place so that the drug is inaccessible to a small child. The storage temperature of such a medicine should not be higher than +25 degrees Celsius. The shelf life of the medication is 2 years. If the date on the package is erased or the expiration date has expired, it is unacceptable to give pills to a child.

Reviews

On the use of Grammidin in children, mothers respond mostly positively. The medication is praised for its availability in pharmacies, pleasant taste and a minimum of contraindications. According to the parents, the drug quickly eliminates painful sensations, helps against coughs caused by discomfort in the throat, and also speeds up recovery.

Only in rare cases did an allergic reaction or digestive disorders occur to the tablets. In most cases, children tolerate such a remedy well, and they like the taste of the tablets. As for the cost, many mothers call the price of Grammidin low, so they rarely look for the drug cheaper.

Analogs

In addition to children's Grammidin, the same manufacturer offers other options for such a drug:

  1. Grammidin neo... A feature of such tablets is a higher concentration of the antimicrobial ingredient (gramicidin C in each such tablet is represented by a dosage of 3 mg). The drug has a mint taste and smell, and instead of aspartame, it contains another sweetener - acesulfame potassium. This makes it possible to prescribe it for phenylketonuria. In childhood, Grammidin neo is used from 4 years old. The child is given 1 tablet 1-2 times a day under the age of 12 years and one tablet three to four times a day in adolescence.
  2. Grammidin neo with anesthetic. Due to the presence of oxybuprocaine in the composition of such tablets, they have a pronounced analgesic effect. Like the drug without anesthetic, these are white mint tablets with acesulfame potassium as a sweetener. Such a medication is also allowed from the age of 4 and is prescribed to children 1-2 tablets per day up to 12 years of age and 3-4 tablets per day for children over 12 years old (1 tablet per dose).

Preparations with a different composition, but with a similar therapeutic effect, can also replace Grammidin, for example:

  • Lizobact. These tablets contain lysozyme, which is a natural compound that protects the oral mucosa from bacteria. Thanks to the second component (pyridoxine), the medication accelerates the healing of mucosal injuries, which is especially in demand for aphthous stomatitis. The medicine is prescribed to dissolve in children over 3 years old.
  • Faringosept. These inexpensive tablets have an antiseptic effect and inhibit bacteria, therefore they are prescribed for angina, gingivitis, tracheitis, pharyngitis and other pathologies. Children can be given to dissolve from the age of three.
  • Tonsilgon N. This drug is made from medicinal plants - oak bark, walnut leaves, marshmallow roots, chamomile flowers, dandelion herb, horsetail and yarrow. It is released in liquid form (drops) and in pills. The medication is prescribed for tonsillitis, laryngitis and other diseases. At the same time, drops are allowed to be given to babies over a year old, and a solid form is used in the treatment of children over 6 years old.
  • Hexalysis. The composition of such lozenges includes lysozyme, enoxolone and biclotymol. Such components have an antiseptic effect, reduce painful sensations and help get rid of the inflammatory process faster. The medication is used in pediatrics from the age of six.
  • Suprima-lor. As part of this antiseptic for throat, amylmetacresol is supplemented with dichlorobenzyl alcohol. The medication is produced with different tastes and is prescribed for children over six years old with stomatitis and inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract (upper section).
  • Septolet. This preparation contains mint and eucalyptus oils, benzalkonium chloride, levomenthol and thymol. These ingredients provide antiseptic properties to the drug. Doctors prescribe such lozenges for children over 4 years old with tonsillitis, stomatitis, laryngitis and other lesions of the throat and mouth. Septolete Neo (contains only cetylpyrinium chloride and is used from 4 years old), Septolete D (the same composition as Septolete, but without sugar) and Septolet total (includes cetylpyrinium chloride and an anti-inflammatory component, represented by benzidamine, is prescribed from 12 years ).
