Ear drops "Candibiotic" for children: instructions for use

In the practice of ENT doctors, local funds are most in demand, one of which is the drug Candibiotic. It is often used in adults with chronic or acute otitis media, as well as after ear surgery. But is it possible to treat a child with this medication and how to use such a medicine correctly in childhood?

Release form

Candibiotic is produced in the form of ear drops in 5 ml vials, to which a pipette is attached. It is a clear liquid with a light yellow tint.

Composition

Candibiotic drops include four active ingredients:

  • Clotrimazole. The amount of such an ingredient in one ml of drops is 10 mg.
  • Lidocaine hydrochloride. This component is presented in the preparation at a dose of 20 mg / 1 ml.
  • Beclomethasone. This substance in the form of dipropionate is contained in 1 ml of the drug at a dose of 250 mcg.
  • Chloramphenicol. Its dosage in drops is 50 mg per 1 ml.

Additionally, the drug contains propylene glycol and glycerol.

Operating principle

When treated with Candibiotic, its active ingredients have the following effect:

  • Clotrimazole has a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. This substance disrupts the formation of membrane components in fungal cells, because of which they are destroyed.
  • Lidocaine belongs to anesthetics, because it is able to block the conduction of nerve impulses, which reduces pain.
  • Chloramphenicol is an antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of bacteriostatic activity. Due to the violation of the synthesis of protein molecules in microbial cells, such an ingredient acts on many gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria.
  • Beclomethasone refers to glucocorticoid drugs, therefore its presence in the drops gives the drug an anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory therapeutic effect.

Indications

Drops are prescribed:

  • With otitis externa of an infectious or allergic nature.
  • With otitis media in acute form.
  • With exacerbation of chronic otitis media.
  • With otomycosis.
  • To prevent inflammation after ear surgery.

From what age are they used?

The medication is not recommended for children under 6 years old, therefore, such drops are not prescribed for a child under 5 years old.

Contraindications

The agent should not be dripped in case of damage to the eardrum, if its integrity is violated. Also, Candibiotic is not prescribed if a small patient has an increased sensitivity to at least one of its components.

The remedy is dripped three or four times a day, 4-5 drops in each ear. The duration of the drug is 7-10 days. It must be continued to be instilled into the ear canal until the end of the course prescribed by the doctor, despite the fact that the improvement in most patients is noticeable on the third or fifth day of use.

Analogs

Candibiotics can be replaced by other drugs that are used for otitis media. These include drugs Otipax, Anauran, Otirelax, Polydex, Otofa and other drugs. However, they include different active substances and each of these drugs has its own limitations for childhood, so the choice of an analogue should be entrusted to a competent specialist.
