Singlon for children: instructions for use

In the treatment of allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma, hormonal agents are often used, but they have their drawbacks, therefore, recently, many doctors prefer to replace them with modern drugs without hormones. One of these drugs is Singlon.

Features:

The drug is produced by the well-known company "Gedeon Richter" only in solid form. The main component of Singlon is called montelukast. The smallest patients aged 2-5 years are prescribed chewable tablets that have an oval convex shape, cherry taste and a pale yellow color. On one side of such a medicine, you can see the engraving "R13".

The dosage of montelukast in these tablets is 4 mg. Auxiliary components are aspartame, cherry flavor, hyprolose, mannitol, magnesium stearate, MCC, yellow dye and croscarmellose sodium. They are sold in packs of 28, packed in blister packs of seven.

Children 6-14 years old are prescribed "Singlon", containing 5 mg of active substance in one tablet. This medicine is also chewable and has a sweet cherry taste, but it has a round shape and is engraved with "R14" on one side of the preparation. The auxiliary ingredients of such tablets are the same as for Singlon with a dosage of 4 mg.

One pack sells from 14 to 56 tablets. One blister holds 7 pieces.

Another form of release of "Singlon" are coated tablets. They are intended for adolescents over 15 years of age and adult patients, as they contain 10 mg of montelukast.

The preparation itself is round and yellow in color. The engraving “R15” can be seen on one side of the tablet. Among the inactive ingredients of this form of "Singlon" are MCC, lactose, hyprolose and other substances. The tablets are sold in blister packs of 7. One pack contains 4 blisters.

Operating principle

The montelukast present in Singleon is capable of acting on special receptors called cystienyl-leukotriene. Due to the binding with them, the drug prevents the action of strong inflammatory mediators (cystienyl-leukotrienes), which are released during allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma. It is these mediators that cause the appearance of bronchospasm, swelling, cough, profuse nasal discharge and other symptoms, from which taking montelukast helps to get rid of. At the same time, Singlon does not act on other important receptors in the respiratory tract.

Indications

The main reason to prescribe "Singlon" to a child is bronchial asthma. The drug is used for the treatment of the disease (in this case, it is prescribed for a long period), and for the prevention of seizures.

In addition, the pills are in demand for rhinitis caused by an allergic reaction. "Singlon" is prescribed to relieve attacks of the common cold day and night, as well as to prevent them. The medication has shown itself well both with year-round illness and with a seasonal form.

Contraindications

"Singlon" is not prescribed for hypersensitivity to any component of the drug. Chewable tablets are also contraindicated in phenylketonuria.

Additional contraindications for coated tablets are milk sugar intolerance, lactase deficiency and glucose / galactose malabsorption.

Side effects

During treatment with "Singlon", negative side effects may appear, for example, allergy to the components of the tablets in the form of itching or rash, nosebleeds, loose stools, dizziness, swelling, rapid fatigue, and so on.

If at least one of these symptoms manifests itself in a child, a doctor's consultation is required.

Dosage

"Singlon" is taken once a day in the dose that suits the child's age:

  • at 2-5 years old - 4 mg;
  • at 6-14 years old - 5 mg each;
  • at 15 years and older - 10 mg.

The diet does not affect the time of taking the pills, but with asthma, the medication is most often given in the evening. How long to take the drug, you need to check with your doctor.

Terms of sale and storage

All forms of "Singlon" are sold by prescription. The price of 14 chewable tablets with a dosage of 4 mg is approximately 450-500 rubles. The cost of 28 Singlon tablets with different amounts of active ingredient varies from 800 to 950 rubles.

The shelf life of both forms of the drug is 2 years from the date of manufacture. Until it has expired, the tablets should be stored at temperatures below +25 degrees in a place where a small child will not be able to get them.

Reviews

"Singlon" is often chosen as an analogue of the expensive "Singular", although most parents consider its price to be quite high as well. As far as efficiency is concerned, in the reviews "Singlon" is often called effective. Other advantages of the medication include its non-hormonal structure, ease of administration (once a day) and the pleasant taste of chewable tablets.

However, sometimes you can see negative reviews about this drug, in which they complain about the lack of effect or side reaction.

Analogs

As already mentioned, the most popular analogue of the Singlon is the Singular. This drug is produced in the Netherlands in the same forms and in the same dosages, so the indications and possible negative effects of these drugs are the same.

Other analogs, which also work thanks to montelukast, include Montelar from the Sandoz company, the Croatian drug Monler, the domestic drug Ectalust, and the Almont tablets from the Actavis company. All of them are also presented as tablets (both chewable and in a film shell) and can be prescribed for the same diseases as "Singlon".
