Treatment of sinusitis in children with folk remedies at home

Sinusitis in children is a common and insidious disease. It can turn into very serious consequences, and therefore the treatment requires serious and thoughtful. But this does not mean at all that the child will have to make a surgical puncture and washing the sinuses. Nowadays there are enough different medicines that allow you to cope with the disease without surgery. In addition, there are effective alternative methods of therapy. We will talk about them in this article.

Symptoms and Signs

Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinuses (sinusitis) most often occurs in children as a consequence of improper treatment of influenza or ARVI as a complication. Sometimes an ailment can be a consequence of the transferred scarlet fever or measles. Often, a chronic rhinitis leads to sinusitis, which for a long time could not be cured. In children, and especially in adolescents who are growing intensively, sometimes there is a curvature of the nasal septum, which can also lead to the onset of the disease. Other causes include allergic rhinitis and immune deficiency.

If the disease torments the child for a couple of weeks, it is acute sinusitis, and if a couple of months or longer, it is chronic.

It is not always easy to recognize this ailment on your own. Its symptoms can mimic many other respiratory diseases. For an accurate diagnosis, you must consult a doctor. This should be done as soon as possible if the following problems appear:

  • The nose is constantly stuffy, nasal breathing is impaired or absent, odors are indistinguishable or difficult to distinguish.
  • Mucus is secreted from the nose (from transparent to gray-purulent).
  • There is pain and a feeling of "bloating" in the forehead, sinuses. When the head is tilted down, there is a feeling of strong pressure and heaviness on either side of the nose.
  • Sometimes there is photophobia, swelling of the eyelids, swelling of the cheeks from the side of the sore sinus, lacrimation.
  • The temperature rose (up to 38.0).
  • There is general weakness and malaise.
  • Persistent, dry, unproductive cough at night, with no sore throat or complaints of breathing problems during the day. Does not respond to cough medicine.

What is the danger?

If the sinusitis is not treated, it will become chronic. The condition is unpleasant and intractable. The acute phase of the disease without medical intervention can lead to the fact that the inflammation spreads to neighboring tissues, the eyes, hearing organs, throat, brain may suffer, and sepsis may begin.

When is it impossible to do with folk methods?

In most cases, sinusitis requires treatment with medicines, and not folk remedies, sometimes even in a hospital setting. However, time-tested "grandmother's" advice can be a good help in the difficult task of getting rid of inflammation of the maxillary sinuses. Naturally, with the permission of the doctor.

Let's listen to Doctor Komarovsky about what is sinusitis in a child and how dangerous it is.

Dropping only onion juice into a child's nose with sinusitis is criminal and negligentif his illness is severe, with high fever and headaches. Not a single, even strong folk remedy is able to replace completely traditional antibiotics with sinusitis. Therefore, whenever there is a suspicion of sinusitis, you need to take the child to the doctor as soon as possible.

Effective folk remedies

Traditional methods of treating sinusitis are in many respects consonant with the treatment regimen used by doctors. They involve three main stages: first, you need to free the sinuses and nasal passages from mucus and pus, then disinfect, and last of all, fix the result by warming up (in traditional medicine, physical procedures are usually used at the final stage).

Drops and rinsing in the nose, antimicrobial treatment

Children usually wash their nose with a solution of furacilin, which is easy to prepare at home, or with sea water. However, you can also make a saline solution (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of water). After thorough rinsing, exercise "cuckoo", you can instill in the nose decoctions and water infusions of chamomile, calendula, eucalyptus.

It is not difficult to prepare such "drops": for 2 teaspoons of dry herb or pharmacy collection you will need one and a half cups of boiling water. After the agent is infused, strain it and instill 2-3 drops into each nasal passage up to 5 times a day.

Aloe juice has proven itself well. Take a fleshy leaf of the plant, squeeze through cheesecloth, dilute it in half with honey (if the child is not allergic to bee products). You can drip such a remedy 2 drops into the nostrils several times a day.

Effective, according to reviews, drops of beet juice and squeezed onion juice (it must be diluted with boiled water in a ratio of 1: 2).

Warming up

It is better to carry out such procedures when the inflammation begins to recede. To do this, you will need an inhaler or a special device - a nebulizer. If there are no such technical achievements at home, you can mix hot infusion of sage or St. John's wort (2 tablespoons of herbs in a glass of boiling water) and a few drops of essential oil in a deep glass or ceramic bowl (eucalyptus, pine, menthol is suitable). The child should cover his head with a towel and let him breathe in pairs.

Care should be taken so that the child does not get burns to the face, nasal passages, eyes. The inhaler device reduces the risk of such thermal injury to zero.

Any grandmother can gladly tell you the recipe for "rolling out" sinusitis with a boiled chicken egg. A warm egg was moved in a circular motion along the frontal region, sinuses, until the egg cooled completely. And so several times a day.

A very unusual method of inhalation for sinusitis can be tried with ordinary black bread. A small piece is set on fire and the child is allowed to breathe this bread smoke.

The danger of self-medication

In the 19th century, when there are a lot of medicines, the position of parents who are trying to treat such a serious disease as sinusitis at home with garlic, onions and bread smoke is not entirely clear. Unfortunately, doctors are forced to state that 80% of patients who come with severe forms of sinusitis, or children with advanced stages, when hospitalization is required, these are exactly the people who tried to treat sinusitis with folk remedies at home. Until the problem became catastrophic.

What can’t be done?

  • It is strictly forbidden to warm up the nose in the acute stage of inflammation. This can cause the infection to spread more quickly.
  • It is contraindicated to use any folk remedies if the child has stopped the outflow of mucus from the nose and an unpleasant odor from the nose and mouth has appeared.
  • You can not do inhalation at home at high temperatures.

Tips

I will have few tips. Only one. If you suspect sinusitis, you don't need to experiment with folk remedies. Remember that while you drip chamomile decoction to the chamomile, precious time is spent that doctors need to save your baby from serious complications that can (and often does!) Give such an insidious disease as sinusitis.

Go to the doctor. But in his office you can talk about folk remedies. If the doctor considers their use justified, he himself will tell you a couple of excellent recipes, which, together with the prescribed treatment, will give a good and quick result.
