Sub Simplex for newborns - a panacea or a dummy?

One of the most common causes of anxiety in newborns is tummy pain, which appears due to the hyperextension of the intestinal walls with gas bubbles. There are many remedies on the drug market today to alleviate this condition. But do they work? Using the example of the drug Sub Simplex, we will analyze this issue together with a pediatrician.

Some features of the structure and functioning of the gastrointestinal tract in children

The digestive tract of newborns is immature, and its functions are still imperfect.

The mucous membrane of the mouth is rich in receptors that "turn on" the sucking reflex and the secretion of the salivary glands. For a newborn who feeds on breast milk or formula, saliva is more needed for learning to swallow.

Poorly developed muscle layer and the absence of an obstacle (septum, cardiac pulp) between the stomach and the esophagus leads to the ingestion of a large amount of air during meals. The baby's stomach is also small, and if the child is given too much food at a time, then the walls become overstretched, pain and anxiety arise. Poorly developed glands and the muscular layer of the stomach also lead to increased gas production.

Intestinal colic usually develops from three weeks of age and lasts up to three months. This period will be quickly forgotten, and you will calmly enjoy communicating with your beloved baby.

More about Sub Simplex

The instructions for use for the preparation describe that the composition of the SAB Simplex preparation is based on simethicone, which is a mixture of dimethicone and silicon dioxide. Citric acid monohydrate, flavors (vanilla and raspberry) are indicated as auxiliary substances.

Allergy is possible on SAB Simplex. Please consult your pediatrician before use. At the first signs (redness, rash, anxiety in the baby, respiratory failure), you should stop giving the drug and seek help.

Drops of Sub Simplex are not absorbed into the blood. This means that the drug does not "load" either the liver or kidneys of the baby. It is used from the neonatal period.

This drug acts on gas bubbles - causes them to crush. In addition, Sub Simplex partially prevents the formation of new gas bubbles from previously destroyed ones. Their remnants are excreted by peristaltic waves of the intestine together with feces, therefore, difficult to remove "glomeruli" from gases and mucus are not formed.

The drug does not cause dysbiosis, since it does not affect the biocenosis of the intestinal internal environment.

How to take SAB Simplex

The medicine is available in the form of a suspension for oral administration.

For bottle feeding, simply add droplets to the formula.

There are several ways to give the drug if the baby is breastfed:

  1. Strain a small amount of milk and add the suspension in the required dosage.
  2. The required amount of Sub Simplex can be dripped directly before feeding through a teaspoon.
  3. Sub Simplex dissolves easily in liquids, so you can mix it with water (small amount - 10 ml) and give it to your baby to drink.

The drug can be given both with meals and after. To prevent colic from interfering with sleep, you can give it before bedtime.

In order to eliminate increased gas formation, newborns and infants are given 15 drops each, this is about 0.6 ml of suspension.

For children from 1 to 6 years old, the dose of the drug is 15 - 20 drops. This amount of the drug must be given 2 times a day.

In more severe cases, the drug can be given every 6 hours. The drug begins to act quickly and can be given regularly for a long time.

The bottle should be in a dark place.

What is the best choice? Sub Simplex versus other colic remedies

  1. Sub Simplex or Bobotik? If your baby is worried about mild pain, gas formation is rare and there are no mucous lumps, you can use Bobotik, because it can be used a maximum of four times a day, no more. It is also somewhat cheaper than the competitor. In addition, Bobotik is allowed to be taken only from the 28th day of a baby's life, in this he is inferior to Sub Simplex.
  2. Sub Simplex or Espumisan? Such a choice arises because both there and there the active substance simethicone is based. Espumisan contains less of this component. In addition, there is an inconvenience in maintaining the accuracy of the dosage (1 teaspoon). In some cases, you can find a fake, since Espumisan is well advertised.

It is advisable to take Espumisan no more than 2 - 3 weeks, and Sub Simplex can be given for a long time.

How much does Sub Simplex cost?

The price of the drug can vary from 200 to 400 rubles per bottle, depending on the pharmacy chain that distributes the drug.

Reviews of the drug

On the Internet, you can find a huge number of both positive and negative reviews. Some write that the baby has ceased to be bothered by colic and pain, others say that the result is absolutely zero. Whom to believe, you ask.

A study was carried out at the Center for Correction of the Development of Young Children of the Moscow Research Institute of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery, in which the effectiveness of taking the drug Sab Simplex in young children during the period of severe pain from gas was studied.

Researchers (Keshishyan E.S., Berdnikova E.K.) came to the conclusion that it was advisable to take this drug, since the children were getting better: the pain almost disappeared, gas production decreased. Negative reactions in the form of rash and redness were not observed, since the correct dosage of the drug was observed.

Most of the negative reviews are associated with the presence of adverse reactions. Allergy is quite rare, since the drug is not absorbed into the general bloodstream. There is an assumption that the reaction is provoked by auxiliary components - citric acid and flavors. After taking anti-allergic drugs, the allergy disappears after a while.
