Why does a child at 3 months not roll over on his stomach

When a newborn begins to get to know this world, his parents keep track of the timing of his mastery of all key skills. This is one of the main indicators of correct development. Many things baffle adults, for example, they don't know if it's okay if the baby doesn't turn over at 3 months.

When babies roll onto their stomach

A newly born baby has a tremendous job ahead of him. For his parents, controlling his body is a familiar and understandable thing, they do not even think about this process. It's very difficult for a kid to even just raise his head, let alone roll over, sit down, stand up, go. His muscles are not yet ready for such loads, everything is mastered gradually.

In order for the baby to raise its head, the neck needs to be strengthened. For a flip on the side, stomach, back, the corresponding muscles must be sufficiently developed.

Are coups in 2 months real

Many parents (especially first-borns) tend to compare the neighbor's child and their own. If the first turned over in two months, the same will be expected from the second. Such comparisons are likely to be upset. Because at two months old, the baby may still not be able to roll over from back to stomach and even on the side, this is normal. The norms for mastering the skill are as follows:

  • At three months - attempted side coups.
  • At four months - turning on the stomach.
  • At five months - from the abdomen or side to the back.

The child learns to roll over on its side

Important! All the above norms are averaged. The crumb can either get ahead of them or lag behind them. If he is completely healthy (according to the pediatrician, neurologist and orthopedist), then he has every right not to master some of the skills at all. In particular, not all children learn to roll over on their backs. From a position on their tummy, they can go up on all fours and sit down immediately.

Why there are no coups in 3-3.5 months

Usually at 3 months, the baby still does not roll over on his stomach, but only tries to roll over on his side. What time he finally learns to do this depends on a number of factors:

  • Little man's temperament. A melancholic infant is less inquisitive and active than a choleric, therefore, he will begin to move actively later.
  • Child's weight. The heavier the crumb, the more difficult it is for him to master his body.
  • Parent's attention. If adults work with a baby, do massage and gymnastics with him every day, then his physical fitness will be better than that of a baby without training.
  • Fortress of health. Children who are sick more often spend their strength first of all on recovery, and only then on mastering skills. Therefore, in general, in terms of ability to move, they lag behind their peers with good health. Children born prematurely develop with a slight lag.

How to teach to roll over

In the third or fourth month of life, the baby must begin to learn to roll over itself. It is in the power of parents to help the child so that mastering is faster and more successful.

Massage and gymnastics

For an adult, the best strengthening of his muscles is strength sports. They are not yet available to the baby. Their role is still performed by massage. He can be professional and superficial. The first should be done only by a specially trained pediatric massage therapist, the second - by parents.

Massaging should include rubbing the limbs, pinching (including the tummy), patting. It is imperative to control the strength of your hands: the movements should be effective enough for the baby, but not bring pain. Excessive pressure can injure the crumb.

Pinching of the abdomen and sides will be especially useful in mastering coups. This simple exercise improves blood circulation in the desired area, warms up the muscles even more and encourages the baby to strain them. Finally, it improves the baby's mood if done correctly (without discomfort).

Massage usually precedes gymnastics. During it, the child's body is not only exposed to external influences, it is also stimulated to move more. For example, the following exercises are very helpful:

  • Pull-ups. The baby is placed on the back. An adult puts his thumbs in his palms, the baby must grab them. The parent insures the child's palm with his own. It is necessary to slightly lift the baby by the handles, keeping them at the level of his face. Not sitting down will harm your spine. So that the children's shoulders come off the surface. The purpose of the exercise is to make the baby strain his tummy and arms, to stimulate attempts to pull himself up.

Baby pull up

  • Coups. After the warming up massage, you need to take the baby by the right thigh and turn it over to the left. The left leg is simultaneously held in place. The kid will begin to roll over and the shoulders will follow the pelvis too. So the adult will show the baby what exactly he needs to do.

Swimming

It is better if the toddler is engaged in infant swimming in the pool. This physical activity makes all the muscles of the body tense well, which strengthens them, but also relaxes them, so you can swim at night. If a child at three months does not turn over and does not even try, his muscular frame definitely needs such strengthening. Swimming on your stomach will be extremely helpful.

It is important to note! The use of a circle in this case is not necessary - it itself supports the neck, provoking muscle relaxation more than tension. It is better to hold the baby in the water in your arms for recreational swimming. This will force the baby to try to control the position of his body.

Laying out on the stomach

The sooner and more often the baby is laid on his stomach, the sooner he will tend to roll over himself. This simple action will strengthen the muscles of the tummy and neck, and awaken interest in the world around you. It is recommended to spread it on a hard and flat surface - on the floor, for example. You can practice exercises on the fitball: springs, rolling the ball when the baby lies on it on its stomach.

Note! It is important not to overdo it with training. If it is too active to engage with the child, he may begin to be afraid to do what is expected of him.

When to start worrying

If the child does not want to roll over on his stomach by 5-6 months, this is a reason to visit a pediatrician. He will send for additional examination to a neurologist and orthopedist. Perhaps the baby will have hypo - or hypertonicity or more serious pathologies. By the threshold of 3-3.5 months, the baby may not be able to somersault, this is normal if the baby is completely healthy.

Parents must remember: you cannot blindly follow the average rate, since the personality of the toddler plays an important role in the development schedule. You need to devote your time and attention to the child, as well as visit the doctor as needed and planned. This minimizes the risk of developmental delays.
