Hammock for bathing newborns - how to choose

Manufacturers of clothes, toys and accessories for children constantly surprise parents with new inventions. One of these things, which has recently become fashionable, is a hammock in which young children are bathed to relieve the parents' hands. Practical experience has shown that this item can indeed be very useful during a baby's bath every night.

Bathing is a baby's favorite procedure

What is a hammock for?

A newborn bathing hammock can make bathing easier for parents. It is needed because:

  • Frees hands of parents;
  • Provides safe bathing for babies;
  • Gives the child the necessary comfort;
  • Makes bathing enjoyable and enjoyable.

Almost all parents buy such a hammock as a "dowry for a newborn".

Pros of using

The main advantages of using it are the comfortable position of the child during bathing and the ability for the mother to wash the baby alone, without an assistant. For this, of course, it is worth purchasing a device. Now you don't have to wait until your dad comes home from work to carry out water procedures.

Minuses

Among the disadvantages are the high cost and short life. For a child who already knows how to sit, a hammock is absolutely useless. The product is suitable only for the smallest - for those who do not even know how to roll over from back to stomach.

Bathing in a hammock cannot last long. When the water begins to cool down gradually, the child already feels uncomfortable lying on wet cloth; any damp textile is an ideal environment for germs to spread. Therefore, in order to increase the duration of the water procedure, parents must constantly pour warm water into the bath.

Children grow quickly, so they use the hammock for no more than three months

Criteria for choosing a children's hammock

When choosing a product, you should pay attention to:

  • Cost;
  • Country and reputation of the manufacturer;
  • Reliability of fasteners;
  • Appearance.

The colors can be chosen depending on the gender of the baby or neutral. Cloth options are more expensive than hammocks made entirely of mesh. However, in this case it is not worth saving. The mesh sags very quickly and becomes unusable, the fabric lasts for a long time. A good combined option is a textile bed with mesh inserts in the places where the legs and head of the newborn are located.

The fabric from which the hammock is sewn must be strong and well processed

Material

Textile or mesh is usually used as a material, fasteners are made of high-quality plastic. Metal elements (rivets) may be present.

Design

The hammock is a rectangular bed for a baby that attaches to a baby bath. When the baby is placed on the seat, the frame sags and sinks into the water, keeping the baby on the surface of the water.

Functionality

The main function of a hammock for bathing a baby is to ensure his safety while performing water hygiene procedures. The device also helps parents by freeing their hands: now mom can cope with bathing on her own without resorting to dad's help.

The size

A good option for a baby - the size is a little "for growth", then it may be possible to use the hammock before the baby learns to sit on its own. If after the purchase it turned out that the product is not enough, unfortunately it is no longer possible to use it - the hammock may not withstand the weight load.

Sewing quality

A hammock in a baby bath for a newborn should be sewn from properly processed fabric. On its surface there should be no rough seams, protruding threads, sharp fasteners.

Preparing the hammock before use

Before placing the child in the hammock for the first time for bathing, the device must be ironed with an iron on the side from which the fabric will adhere to the body. You also need:

  • Conduct a visual inspection for defects and damage;
  • Wipe the seat with a sponge dipped in warm water;
  • Wipe all fasteners with any disinfectant solution.

Then you can put the baby in the hammock.

Disinfection

After purchase, the product should be washed in warm water using baby detergent or regular laundry soap. Every time before bathing a newborn in a hammock, the device must be shaken off of dust.

Checking fasteners

The hammock in the baby bath must be able to support the baby's weight. A product with sagging attachments is no longer subject to use, therefore, it is strictly forbidden to place babies over six months in the hammock.

Other

A hammock in a baby bath can no longer be used if it has become too saggy under the baby's weight. Failure to follow this safety rule could result in the child being unexpectedly submerged.

Attention! Do not dry the product in the sun. The fabric can deform from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Taking proper care of your hammock

The health of the baby depends on good care of the device. After bathing every night, you must:

  • Get the hammock out of the water;
  • Rub it with a washcloth or a sponge lathered with baby soap, rinse;
  • Gently spread and hang to dry;
  • After drying, remove, fold and put in a bag until next use.

Taking care of a plastic slide seat is a little easier, but a hammock, unlike a slide, provides an anatomical position of the baby's body during water procedures.

This thing needs proper care

Attention! When washing, you can only use detergents intended for clothes of newborns. The hammock comes in direct contact with the baby's skin, and if even the smallest particles of washing powder remain on the fabric, this can lead to skin irritation or an allergic reaction.

How to bathe babies in a hammock

A newborn bathing hammock is neatly attached to the baby bath. The child is then gently placed in the middle, as with the special swim slide / plastic seat for young children. After that, you need to secure your son or daughter in this position with belts and buckles. Usually the baby responds well to the procedure.

While the baby is lying freely on his back, an adult can rub it with a washcloth, pour water from a bucket. The water temperature should be around 37 degrees for the baby to feel as comfortable as possible. Lying in a hammock, the child can actively move the arms and legs during water procedures, which gives him great joy.

In addition to this product, there are many other devices that facilitate bathing a baby: this is a plastic slide, a special inflatable circle around the neck. If you just want a hammock, but there is no way to buy it, any craftswoman can sew such a "chaise longue" at home from dense material. The main thing is to correctly take measurements from the baby. Metal brackets can be used as accessories. For reliability, it is best to sew the details of the hammock with a triple stitch. The material can be chosen in bright, cheerful colors or solid colors. It all depends on individual tastes and preferences.

In order for the purchase to bring only joy to the child and parents, you should choose a product from trusted manufacturers of goods for children. You should not overpay for expensive foreign models, domestic hammocks are in no way inferior to them in quality and design. Bathing in a hammock will bring a lot of joy to both the baby and young parents. The main thing is not to leave the child unattended in the water, despite the reliable fixation.
