Why does the baby not roll over at 6-7 months

When a newborn arrives in a family, caring parents begin to check his skills with reference books, tables and neighbors' children. Everyone is scared to discover that the baby is not developing according to the norms. Few people understand that every child is individual and can develop quite successfully, deviating from the schedule.

Rates and times for the first coup

According to statistics, a baby must master his body in a certain sequence, according to age. For example, when a baby is 4 months old, the ability to turn from back to side is often the first important skill. By the age of 5 months, the baby is mastering the coup from the back to the stomach. By 6.5 months, he is already able to roll over from his stomach to his back on his own.

When parents note that the child does not roll over at 6 months, anxiety creeps into their minds that something is wrong with the baby's physical health. In order to control the stages of development of infants, medicine has decided to oblige parents to bypass doctors at 1, 3, 6 and 9 months in order to assess the stages of development of each baby with a professional view.

At a pediatrician appointment

For reference. Not every family monitors the physical activity of their children, not every mother picks up books or searches the Internet for information about the norms of infant development. Children from such families are helped by state programs of free medical care, thanks to which babies are examined on time, and parents receive recommendations for care.

Causes of delayed motor activity

Pediatricians often meet children who, at 2.5 months, begin to roll over from back to stomach. Most often these are active girls. Boys are more often phlegmatic in relation to physical activity, in connection with which it is the mothers of boys who often ask themselves: is it normal that a child at 6 months does not try to roll over from his stomach to his back, and what needs to be done.

Premature babies have a tendency to not keep up with accepted norms because they were born earlier than they should have. From the first months of life, these babies first "ripen" to the level of development with which they should have been born. Therefore, most premature babies have the right to lag behind the average rate for a month or two.

Today, the problem of childhood obesity is becoming more widespread. Young parents should be aware that even a slight overweight makes physical activity very difficult for babies. Most often, it is excess weight that becomes the reason why a child does not try to roll over at six months. Other reasons include:

  • character trait (laziness, phlegm of the baby);
  • hereditary slowness;
  • specific diseases of the nervous system and musculoskeletal system.

Important! Before worrying and blaming the child for the fact that at the sixth month of his life he has not yet made a single coup, it is better to ask questions to his grandparents. There is a high probability of hereditary sluggishness, if the baby's mom or dad also did not seek physical activity.

How to help your child roll over

If the baby cannot turn his body over on his own at six months, you need to pay attention to how much time the child spends on physical activity. Parents should help him in this by planning exercises correctly:

  1. From the first month of life, a child should spend energy and learn to control his body, swimming in a large bath every day.
  2. Morning and evening massages using different techniques promote active awakening and relaxation, respectively.
  3. Training with fitball should be started from 2 months of age to strengthen the muscles of the back and cervical spine. Such exercises help to strengthen the vestibular apparatus, teach to maneuver your own body.
  4. From 4 months old, children already learn to stand on all fours, and later to crawl. If the child is standing, but for some reason does not crawl, it is worthwhile to interest him in toys, spreading them out at a distance of 30-40 cm from the baby.
  5. Do not forcefully teach a baby to sit on a high chair, walker, or prop up with pillows until he is seven to eight months old. The later the child takes an upright position, the stronger and healthier his back will be, the more actively he will try to independently turn from back to stomach and back.

Fitball lessons

Attention! You should not strive to bypass the crawling period by constantly teaching the baby to walk by the arms. The less parents provide him with physical assistance, the more the baby will strive to independently reach the toys and change the position of the body.

When to start worrying

You need to worry about the baby not turning over at 6 months if:

  • the child sought to develop physically, was active, and after some event he ceased to be interested in motor activity, abruptly stopped in development;
  • in the seventh month of life did not try to change the position of the body;
  • after 8 months he cannot sit on his own without support.

Any regression in a child's development should be alarming. It is very important to remember what the change in the baby's activity may be related to: with poor health, an insect bite, after the injected vaccine. All parental guesses must be communicated to the doctor so that he correctly determines the cause of the violation and prescribes effective treatment.

Only parental care and an adequate attitude to caring for a baby can contribute to timely development. Pediatricians say that the less adults carry a baby in their arms, the more he strives to learn everything himself. A child who is overweight or has not fully strengthened muscles can be helped by turning him slowly from his back to his stomach several times.

Each toddler needs an individual approach. The generally accepted tables with norms and terms are just a guideline for parents. Many healthy children lagged behind in their physical development for a couple of months until a certain point. Happy parents do not compare their baby with their peers, but enjoy his every personal achievement.
