5 things to think about before planning your baby

A couple who decide to become happy parents must approach this responsibly. The status of parents is not only a joy, but also certain difficulties. Therefore, it is important not only to undergo a medical examination and assess your physical readiness, but also to find out your own motives, to make an assessment of your relationship and financial situation.

1. Readiness

Ask yourself the question: "Are we ready to become parents?", Because wanting a child and being ready for it are two different things. Let the expectant mother and father give themselves an honest answer. You must be aware that a child is not just a wonderful baby, so similar to you, it is a small person that requires great physical and emotional strength. In addition to boundless love and affection, you have to feel tired, lack of sleep, and irritation. A relationship with a baby is not like an adult relationship, because at first you don't get anything in return. Think about whether you are morally capable of all this, whether you can be happy in spite of everything and not get depressed.

Your emotional readiness is the key to successful psychological development of your baby.

2. Living space

Assess if the place where you live is suitable for living with your child. If you are living with a parent or other relative, be clear about how having a baby will affect your relationship and life in general. Being on maternity leave is a permanent stay at home, with the exception of walks and joint trips. If you have your own, but very small living space, think about whether you can all comfortably live here, or whether you should think about expanding, remodeling the apartment, repairing it. Living in a rented apartment can become problematic in terms of emergency eviction, so it is worth discussing everything with the owner of the living space in advance and concluding an appropriate contract.

3. Financial situation

Of course, financial issues need to be addressed when planning a pregnancy. Weigh your position well. Will you have enough funds to provide yourself and your child with everything you need? You should not rely on temporary earnings and part-time jobs, as well as on the help of relatives. In this matter, you now need stability. Evaluate the time of the decree and the possibility of placing the child in kindergarten. Calculate your due employer benefits. If, in order to buy diapers for a child, dad will have to work three jobs, or you decide to call your grandmother for help to go to work herself, then think carefully. It is better to solve financial issues at the planning stage.

4. Who will help

Also evaluate the aspect of which of your relatives or other close people can help you on maternity leave. While the father is at work during the day, the mother may well need to leave the house, go to the clinic, to work, etc. If you have caring relatives nearby who will gladly accept the baby, great. If not, then consider whether you are ready to be attached to the baby constantly, without allocating time for yourself. The issue of help is not fundamental, but, nevertheless, it is worth pondering over it. Any help to a young mother is invaluable. If not, just be prepared for difficulties that, although temporary, are capable of bringing even the most stress-resistant woman to tears.

5. What is the father of a partner

A woman in a permanent relationship, of course, thinks about how much her partner can become a good father. Find out how ready he is to become a parent (How to know if your husband wants a child). Do not feel that having a baby will help you strengthen your relationship, or that you must have a baby after marriage. Discuss all issues calmly together and share your concerns and hopes. Discuss all of the above aspects together.

Pay attention to how your other half behaves with the children of acquaintances, what emotions the man experiences. Evaluate your man from the point of view of his psychological readiness, because a "big child" who endlessly plays computer games and dreams of a radio-controlled helicopter may not yet be emotionally ready for fatherhood.

Life is sometimes very unpredictable, it can change both for the better and for the worse. But a responsible couple should, at least in the initial stages of family planning, be aware of what they will have to face and how to avoid difficulties.

Children are happiness, but no one wants to give up happiness! One day you will think how we generally lived without this little miracle.
