Newborn care

Does the child need sterile conditions?

Do you know that children who grow up in sterile conditions get sick more often?

You go out of your way to create a safe environment for your baby. Cleaning and disinfection every day. Not a single microbe will enter the house. And what happens? Either the child's temperature, then the snot, then the throat hurts ...

And the neighbor vacuums once a week, wipes the dust whenever possible, the dog rushes around the house, spreading the infection. There is nothing to say about toys, all are licked by the dog. And the neighbor does not go to the hospital: the children do not get sick.

We wanted the best. How well it all started ...

Finally, the baby was taken from the hospital. Sterile diapers, undershirts and a pacifier are waiting for the newborn in the room. Before picking up the child in their arms, they wash thoroughly with soap. Kisses on the cheek are prohibited. No family visits! These carriers of infection will not cross the threshold of your house for a long time.

The crumb is growing. He got his first toys - sterile rattles. The room is still wet cleaning every day with the latest disinfectants.

It's time to crawl. A surprise awaits the kid here - a playpen. No, he will not, like other children, explore the world by taste and touch. It's dangerous, there are microbes everywhere! A sterile "cage" is prepared for him.

The child began to walk. Disinfection is now of paramount importance. The enemy will not hide! The mother is barely on her feet, but she firmly believes that germs have no place next to her baby.

The crumb has grown. It's time to go to kindergarten. But it was not there!

Four days in the garden - two weeks on sick leave. And this algorithm repeats itself with terrifying regularity.

I would like to ask: how will a child develop immunity if he is not even familiar with microbes? And how justified are such efforts to maintain cleanliness?

Are microbes so scary?

Irony! Children who grew up in dysfunctional families, where they do not know what cleanliness and order are, rarely get sick.

Are germs and bacteria really that scary?

  1. Firstly, if the baby is deprived of contact with harmful microorganisms, he loses and useful ones. You can't sort them out.
  2. Secondly, in contact with "pests", the child develops immunity to many diseases, the strains of which are the very bacteria and microbes.

Why are we afraid?

The reason parents create sterile conditions for the baby is fear.

- Little. And suddenly he gets sick. - And begins ... disinfection of floors, walls, toys and everything with which the crumb can come in contact. As a result, what we fought for, we ran into it. Diagnosis - allergic, asthmatic, chronic rhinitis. At best, a child who is often ill.

Why it happens?

Are microbes enemies or friends?

In the womb, the baby inherits nonspecific immunity. After birth, a specific (acquired) is formed.

Getting to know the world by taste and touch, the baby gets acquainted with the microflora. Some microorganisms have a beneficial effect, others do not. The immune system fights the latter by producing antibodies. Outwardly, this is not always noticeable. But the cells of the growing organism are constantly fighting. It is these antibodies that form the acquired immunity of the baby. The more diverse the microbes in the child's environment, the broader the immune system. Therefore, it is important to create a clean environment, but not sterile, so that the baby gets acquainted with a wide range of bacteria in small quantities.

When a child grows up in a sterile environment, he is like an alien on his own planet. Nothing threatens him within the home environment. Going outside, it plunges into the world of alien aggressive microorganisms. How long will he last? 4 - 8 days? And then he will have a home regimen, medications ... Lack of fresh air and antibiotics suppress the immune system. The child has recovered - everything is new.

Clean and sterile are not the same

The mistake of young mothers is to listen to one thing and hear another. There is a difference between hygienic and sterile conditions.

  • Keeping the room clean involves cleaning the room as it gets dirty. We saw debris on the floor, dust on the shelves - vacuum, wipe with a damp cloth. The nipple fell to the floor, the baby dropped the toy - rinse with warm boiled water.

Many parents are afraid to have pets. Considering furry friends as carriers of infection. Do not deprive the child of fellowship with our smaller brothers. They not only bring joy, but also expand the microflora of the baby. Yes, they have germs on them! Nothing wrong. Consider them your friends.

  • It is worth using disinfectants in the children's room to get rid of the infection if necessary. When she had already shown herself. Usually after or during sick leave.

The number of allergy sufferers has been growing in recent decades. Scientists trace the dependence of the disease on the excessive passion in these families for cleanliness. The fact is that the chemical industry uses aggressive substances as components: peroxides, phenols, alcohols. If the body and hands can be protected with water, simply by flushing from the surface, then the respiratory organs are unarmed. But after evaporating, these particles settle in the lungs. Think about what your children breathe in sterile conditions.
