What to do if a child asks for something unreal for the New Year

What should parents do if a child asks for a real comic book hero for the New Year ..? Or, for example, "so that all people live forever" ...? Advice to parents whose children ask for "unrealistic" gifts - how not to make a mistake and keep the child's faith in a miracle ...

Sometimes children set us impossible tasks when it comes to gifts for the upcoming holiday. The child waits and believes that Santa Claus will fulfill his every cherished dream. The question arises: What should parents do if their child asks for something unrealizable, for example, so that people never get sick or is very expensive? Or what if the kid dreams of a pet, but you do not share this desire?

Don't panic! We reveal the secrets of how to get out of the situation and not upset the child.

Gift cost

Imagine a situation: a child asks for a thing for which the family's budget is not designed. Many parents make a gross mistake in upbringing when, with a lack of finances, they go into debt, withdraw savings to buy a toy that their baby dreams of so much.

What does this lead to? Over time, "appetites grow", the child simply does not see the real picture of the world, begins to demand even more, considering it the norm. It is sad to see how already grown-up children consider parents to be obliged to buy them expensive gadgets, a car, and so on.

That is why it is so important to explain to a child from an early age that money is not always easy, and not everything can be bought at once. It is necessary to prioritize by denying yourself minor things, for example, limiting yourself to one toy instead of two.

Advice

If your budget simply does not cover what the baby dreams of, you can tell your child that such a gift is very expensive. Tell your child honestly that the gift is too expensive. If Santa Claus gives him this expensive gift, then other children may be left without gifts and will cry. At the same time, this can be a good reason to think with your child how you can save up for the thing you like.

Or give your child a list of what Santa Claus can give this year and let him choose one (this will soften the feeling of rejection). There are many children in this world, but grandfather has a limited budget, and to give everyone, there is such a restriction, otherwise many will be left without a gift.

Responsibility for others

“Mommy, I want a dog,” - you hear from your child, but do not rush to get a pet, that is why very often children ask the kind Grandfather Frost to give them some kind of pet. The first thing that comes to mind is to give not a live puppy or kitten, but a toy. But here you need to be careful: remember the tears of the Kid from "Carlson", when instead of the long-awaited dog he was presented with a plushie?

You (of course, Santa Claus) can write a letter to the kid in which you explain that a pet is a very big responsibility, you need to prepare for this, you need to walk with the dog in the morning and in the evening in any weather or every day to vacuum and wipe the floors. Before a child becomes the owner of a puppy or kitten, he should explain how difficult it is to take care of him, that this is a living creature that requires constant care and attention.

Invite your child to get tested! Arrange a home quest: cleaning, helping in cooking simple meals, doing chores around the house. To accomplish all of the above, the child will have to make an effort and sacrifice his time (which he could spend on games).

Has the child passed the test? Then you can think about purchasing an animal, but which will not cause trouble. For example, fish or turtle.

And the fairy tale will turn into reality ...

The child asks Santa Claus to give him something that does not exist - a real Spider-Man, a hero from the Fixiki cartoon, or help him find himself in a magical land. How to explain to him that this is unrealistic?

Do not sharply tell the kid that there are no magical creatures and this is fiction. But what about Santa Claus himself? In childhood, children must have a fairy tale.

Try to explain that Santa Claus brings gifts to children that can be found in a simple store, he has no way to create them himself.

Parental prohibitions

Computer games, tablets, weapons, what modern manufacturers will not come up with to attract the interest of a child. Adults understand how harmful it is, but they are powerless in front of skilled marketers.

A child may ask Santa Claus for a toy or thing that you consider unacceptable - one of the dolls with the “wrong message”, computer “shooters”, toy weapons with bullets. In this case, Santa Claus can write a letter in which he will explain that he knows that the parents are against the choice of the child, and will tell an interesting story of the “replacement” gift.

It is worth discussing with the child that Santa Claus is always happy to listen to the requests of children, but he is not obliged to exactly fulfill them.

World peace

And what if a child asks for something global - so that everyone is healthy, so that there are no wars in the world ..? This is a reason to be proud of your baby! But the parent is faced with a difficult task - to explain to the child that Santa Claus does not control all the processes on earth, so he cannot fulfill his desire. But invite your baby to make his own personal contribution to saving the world, let him feel like a true hero. Do a good deed together! You can congratulate the children from the boarding school, for example, bring them sweet gifts. If the child's age allows, he can take part in a volunteer program, visit an animal shelter with the child ...

In any case, New Year is a special holiday, and it gives all of us the opportunity to touch the miracle. Children's dreams come true, and adults have the opportunity to be the most real wizards 🙂
