At what age can children be given a pear?

Babies are introduced to new food from 6 months of age, and artificial babies are first treated to porridge or vegetables one to two months earlier. When it is time for fruit-based foods, they often start with local fruits such as apples and pears. Therefore, any mother should find out how a pear is useful for a baby, in what form it can be given to a toddler and how to choose the highest quality fruit.

Benefit

  • Pears contain fructose, sucrose and glucose, as well as pectins, tannins and organic acids.
  • Pear pulp is a good source of vitamins PP, C, B group and carotene.
  • Pears are rich in minerals, including zinc, fluorine, cobalt, copper, iodine, vanadium, nickel, molybdenum.
  • Pear is well absorbed, improves mood, relieves nervous tension, tones and normalizes the heart rate.
  • In pears, a diuretic, disinfectant, antipyretic, fixing and expectorant effect is noted.
  • Pears are classified as low-allergenic foods.

Minuses

  • Eating pears fresh can cause stomach heaviness.
  • This fruit is contraindicated for gastritis and colitis.

Does the child's stool loose or strengthen?

Pears have a fixing and astringent effect on the stool, therefore, such fruits are often used for disorders of the digestive function, in which the feces are liquefied.

Overripe pears can be weak and should be consumed with great care.

At what age can you introduce into complementary foods?

Usually, children who have already tasted the apple are introduced to the pear. This occurs at about 7 months in babies fed with mother's milk, or at 5-6 months in bottle-fed babies.

How to give?

If the kid has not tried a pear before, he is recommended to make mashed potatoes from a baked or boiled pear.

Baking reduces the number of allergens, so even babies with diathesis are given such a pear. The fruit is washed, peeled from the core and placed in the oven for 10-15 minutes, after which it is cooled, the pulp is removed and slightly kneaded to give the toddler.

For pear puree, the peeled and middle fruits can be boiled for a short time in a little water, and then mashed. Combinations of pear puree with other fruits already familiar to the baby are welcome, for example, a child can make apples and pears.

In addition to mashed potatoes, pears are given to children in the form of:

  • Fresh fruit pieces (from 11 months).
  • Dried pear compote (from 6-7 months).
  • Pear juice (from 7-8 months).

How to enter into the diet?

The first test of the pear should be done at breakfast to mark the child's tolerance to the fruit by the end of the day. The crumb is given half a spoonful of pear puree and the reaction is observed. If no adverse symptoms appear, the pear is given on the fourth feeding.

At the same time, artificially fed crumbs are offered up to 30 g of pear puree at 5 months of age and up to 60 g from 6 months. After feeding with pear puree, the child is supplemented with a mixture.

Breastfed babies at 6-7 months of age are given up to 30 g of pear puree, and by eight months - up to 70 g.

From the age of 7 months, artificial children begin to offer pear juice, giving it in the third feeding in a maximum volume of 30 ml. Children on GV are offered pear juice at the age of 8 months.

Tips for choosing

If you want to give a pear to a baby, pick up a ripe and moderately soft fruit without any damage or rotten areas. To do this, carefully examine the pear, feel it and smell it. A pleasant sweet smell will tell you that the fruit is ripe.

What to do if you have an allergy?

Having noted the child's adverse reaction to the pear, the product should be excluded from the child's diet for a while. After 1-2 months, you can try to introduce this fruit into the diet again. If the child still reacts to the pear with an allergic reaction, do not give it to the child until 3 years of age or longer, while the allergy persists.
