Is it possible to plan the conception of a child of a certain gender by the date of ovulation?

For some, the sex of the unborn child is of great importance. For example, for couples who are already raising two or three same-sex children. But even those who decide to go after their first child want to know how to increase the likelihood of having a child of a particular gender - a boy or a girl. Many have heard of scheduling sex by ovulation. Let's take a look at what this method is, what its disadvantages and advantages are.

Method essence

The method of planning the sex of the unborn child before conception by the date of ovulation is positioned on the Internet as efficient and effective. Its accuracy is estimated at 98% by unknown authors. It is even called scientifically sound. But let's see if this is really so.

The essence of the method lies in the fact that the eggs of all women, without exception, always carry only one set of sex chromosomes - X. And there are two types of spermatozoa - some carry the X chromosome set, and others - Y.On the tens of millions of sperm cells, only one sex is destined to fertilize an egg a man's cage. And from what it will be - X or Y - depends on what gender the baby will have.

When sperm X is fused with an egg, chromosome set XX is obtained, and a girl is born. When a female cell is fertilized with a Y sperm, the chromosome set looks like XY, and a boy is born. In this there are no contradictions with science and medicine, this information is completely true.

The lifespan of an egg ready for fertilization is a day. Sperm cells live on average 3-4 days. And this is also true. Thus, conception is possible only on the day of ovulation, but intercourse does not have to be performed on this date.

If unprotected sex was three days before ovulation, the probability of conception is also very, very high, because living and motile sperm are already in the wide part of the fallopian tubes and are waiting for the release of the egg.

If intercourse is performed on the day of ovulation, it takes about half an hour for sperm to reach the wider part of the fallopian tubes, where they will not have to wait. They themselves will be awaited by the egg cell that has emerged from the follicle and is ready to merge.

It is popularly believed that X's sperm are more tenacious, but less mobile. To conceive a girl, you need to have sexual intercourse 2-3 days before ovulation, and then protect yourself so that faster and more motile sperm Y does not enter the genital tract.

To conceive a boy, on the contrary, you need to abstain from sexual intercourse until ovulation, and directly on this day to start a pleasant and useful lovemaking. Male reproductive cells Y, according to the method, get to the ovum faster and ensure the conception of the baby of the stronger sex. Also, the first days after ovulation are suitable for conceiving a boy, while the female reproductive cell still retains the ability to be fertilized.

What does medical science think about this?

In the seminal fluid of men there is always a part of the motile and active, less motile and generally immobile spermatozoa. The sperm composition is heterogeneous. However, sedentary sex cells from the point of view of official medicine have almost no chance of reaching the fallopian tubes at all. They, not having the proper speed, simply die in the vagina in an environment of high acidity, since they simply cannot quickly overcome this path and penetrate into the uterine cavity.

Only actively motile and motile sperm (cells of groups A and B according to spermogram results) can fertilize an egg. At the same time, microscopic examination and genetic analyzes of spermatozoa did not show a definite pattern in their belonging to carriers of the X or Y chromosome. In other words, in group A (the most mobile and fastest sperm) there are both carriers of X and carriers of Y in equal proportions. In group B (active, but slightly slower sperm), the predominance of cells with the X chromosome was also not found.

Based on these data, it cannot be argued that spermatozoa, which can fertilize an egg with a 100 percent probability of conceiving a boy, are faster than spermatozoa, which are hoped for by those who want to become the parents of a girl.

As for the life expectancy of germ cells, doctors are quite unanimous on this issue - sperm live for about 3-4 days, regardless of which sex chromosome they carry. This means that the method of planning the sex of a baby by ovulation can only have one accuracy - 50X50. With the same success, you can not plan the sex of the baby at all, because in any case, only one of their two types of sperm will "win" for the right to continue the race and give rise to a new life - either X or Y.

From the point of view of traditional medicine and science There is only one effective way to find out the sex of a child even before conception - this is the selection of embryos of a certain sex during IVF. Such a procedure has to go to people who cannot have children of a certain gender for fear of passing on to them some genetic diseases associated with a particular sex. So, a woman carrying the hemophilia gene has the right to conceive through assistive technologies with the guarantee that she will give birth to a girl only, because girls do not get hemophilia, for her unfavorable heredity is not dangerous.

In all other cases, the sex of the child is a mystery and divine providence; even very experienced doctors and inquisitive researchers cannot interfere with it. But no one forbids those who want to try the ovulation planning method to try their luck and introduce an element of the game into the sacrament of conception.

How to prepare for conception?

To use this method, a woman needs to know exactly when she is ovulating. Typically, with a standard 28-day menstrual cycle, follicle rupture and the release of a mature egg occurs 14 days after the first day of the last menstrual period. If the cycle is longer, for example, it is 30 days, then ovulation usually occurs on the 15th day. With a shorter cycle, ovulation also occurs in the middle.

The most difficult thing to calculate is ovulation with an irregular cycle. Here, doctors should come to the aid of a woman, who can track the process of follicle maturation and rupture by means of ultrasound scanning. You can also try using special pharmacy ovulation tests. On the test, errors are rare.

If your cycle is regular and your period is never more than 1-2 days late, you can calculate the right time for conception using a special calendar or online calculator. The program will indicate the most favorable days for conception, and some of them even indicate which gender, according to the ovulation planning method, can be conceived on that day.

A woman, having carefully observed her body, can determine the approach of ovulation and by the characteristic symptoms: mood changes, increased sexual appetite appears, increased humidity is observed in the perineum, discharge becomes viscous, transparent, resembling raw egg white, the breast becomes more sensitive, sex is on the eve ovulation and on the day of ovulation usually gives women more pleasure than other days. Some people note pain in the right or left side at the time of the release of the egg (it all depends on which side the follicle has ruptured).

Once the right day is determined, you can start planning your intimate life. The probability of fertilization in general (regardless of gender) increases if, before the decisive sexual intercourse, abstain from sex for 2-3 days, no more.

Prolonged abstinence affects the quality and quantity of semen, reducing a man's fertility.

Method reviews

On one well-known women's website, an unknown girl expressed the essence of the reviews about planning for ovulation in a very precise phrase: "This is one of the best methods, but many do not succeed." It is usually not difficult to calculate ovulation. For most of even young and inexperienced girls, 3-4 months of observation of their well-being are enough to determine the days favorable for conception with great accuracy.

However, the method very often does not meet the expectations of the planners. And already at the end of the first trimester, an ultrasound scan determines a completely different gender of the child. Often, women are not limited to one day of ovulation, but additionally check with the Chinese table, the blood renewal table, and also try to adhere to a special diet. But even their expectations are met only in half the cases.

They try to find out the sex of the alleged child according to folk signs, according to the lunar calendar, make a calculation on the last day of menstruation, use meditation and signs of fate. However, the sex of the child is not amenable to mathematical miscalculation, although in exactly half of the cases the undertaking ends in success.

If you really want to, you can try, but all this will remain only at the level of an interesting pastime.
