Dr. Komarovsky about diapers

In a modern family with a baby, it is quite difficult to imagine life without diapers. They allow you to raise your child with comfort, primarily for the parents themselves. It is convenient to walk in it with a baby, visit a clinic, a baby's sleep at night in a high-quality diaper is stronger than without it. However, society has not yet come to a consensus on the relationship between the harm and benefits of diapers. The famous doctor Evgeny Komarovsky talks about how to treat diapers, how to use them correctly.

Reference

Baby diapers in the sense in which they are perceived now became widespread in Russia at the end of the 90s. Until that time, diapers were triangular gauze, and in families who were incredibly lucky, children grew up in reusable diapers - cellophane panties with buttons, in which ordinary gauze pads were inserted.

Today, on the shelves of pharmacies, children's stores and regular supermarkets, there is a huge selection of these disposable hygiene items. There are both universal diapers and diapers designed separately for boys and girls. In addition, they differ in size (based on the minimum and maximum weight of the baby), as well as in style - they are Velcro, in the form of panties. All these parameters must be indicated on the packaging.

The opinion of Dr. Komarovsky

Evgeny Komarovsky believes that diapers are a useful thing not so much for the child himself as for his mother, who needs to have a good rest and recover after giving birth, and not stand for hours over a basin with dirty diapers that need urgent washing.

The doctor advises not to take into account the opinions of the older generation who raised their children without disposable panties, since they are often not supported by any reasonable arguments about why it is more useful for a baby to write and poop in a diaper.

Parents who have chosen disposable diapers as a hygiene product for their children should remember several important rules:

  • Temperature conditions. If in the room where the baby grows, thanks to the efforts of the grandmother and the mother, it is always warm and even hot (above 25 degrees), then the child will be more than uncomfortable in the diaper. This will lead to diaper rash, contact dermatitis, and a host of other unpleasant skin manifestations of sweating. As much as you can, you need to maintain a temperature of 18-20 degrees in the room, no more. In the midst of the summer heat, it is better not to put on a "diaper" for a child while he is awake.
  • Duration of use. Some parents get so used to the baby wearing diapers that they “forget” to take them off in time. If the mother has already recovered from childbirth, and there is a washing machine and hot water in the house, you should not constantly keep the baby in a diaper. As soon as the baby starts to sit, you can hold him over the pot, at the same time you can learn to "catch" the moments when he wants to go to the toilet. It will be possible to wean a child at night in a dream to write into a diaper a little later, when he learns to write and poop in a pot during the day.
  • Caution when sick. If the baby's temperature rises above 38 degrees, Dr. Komarovsky recommends not to wear a diaper. It covers about a third of the child's body area; heat exchange will be disrupted in high heat.
  • Hygiene. Change your panties as often as the situation requires. Definitely - after each bowel movement and as you fill up - the rest of the time.

About the dangers of diapers

All existing studies of supposedly authoritative world scientists on the dangers of diapers Komarovsky calls unproven, because the arguments presented in the publications do not correspond to the theory of evidence-based medicine. In particular, the likelihood of diaper rash and dermatitis in disposable panties is about the same as in diapers. Moreover, for children growing up in diapers, and from time to time (in a dream) lying in these wet diapers, the likelihood of problems with the skin on the pope increases significantly.

Quite often, opponents of children's disposable diapers talk about their negative impact on the health of boys - allegedly, the scrotum overheats, as a result of which the quality of sperm decreases, which in adulthood leads to male infertility. Indeed, the number of infertile men is steadily growing, and today about 15% of the stronger sex cannot have children for health reasons. However, it is foolish to blame the diapers for this, says Evgeny Komarovsky.

Factors that affect the reproductive function of men are the environment, bad habits, previous infectious diseases (such as mumps), but definitely not disposable diapers.

And here's why: Leydig cells, which are in the testicles, are responsible for the production of male sex hormones. But until 7-8 years old, they practically do not work and are activated only on the eve of puberty.

Sperm as such begins to be produced in the boy's body at the earliest by the age of 10-11, but at this age the boys no longer wear diapers. Thus, when asked whether they are harmful to boys, the answer is quite simple - you cannot harm what is not. Sperm is not produced, the mechanism is not running, which means that there is no harm from the extra degree that the diaper will add to the temperature of the testicles.

For those who doubt it, Evgeny Komarovsky cites the following data: in order to reduce the motility of sperm, it is necessary to influence the scrotum with a temperature above 45 degrees for several days. At the same time, a man will not be infertile, his sperm will simply have a lower speed when moving, and this does not deprive him of the opportunity to become a dad. The temperature of the boy's scrotum, who grows in gauze and a diaper, is about 34-34.5 degrees. If the child is wearing disposable panties, the temperature of the scrotum is at 36 degrees. Up to those very 45 degrees, at which a small change in the quality of sperm occurs, as you can see, far.

If parents of grandmothers or other older relatives are told about a certain "greenhouse effect", Komarovsky advises to recall the school course in physics, chemistry, and look at the packaging of diapers for data on the composition.

Usually disposable panties are made of materials that, on the contrary, have an absorbent effect, they absorb moisture, and do not accumulate it like a greenhouse.

Tips for choosing diapers

Diapers must be of high quality and safe. Usually such properties of their products are guaranteed by "promoted" brands. Yes, these panties are not cheap, but there are fewer complaints about them. It is much more terrible to buy an unknown creation of the Chinese industry (or even an underground workshop) in the pursuit of saving the family budget. Such "authors" do not guarantee you that you have chosen environmentally friendly materials, and therefore the risk of allergies, dermatitis, nobody cancels.

Diapers should not be too small or too large for the baby. Both will give him quite understandable inconveniences. In the first case, it will press and cut, in the second, it will hang out, rub.

Pay attention to the absorbent layer. Conduct a home experiment with pouring liquid into a diaper, see how the inner absorbent layer is distributed, and you can understand if the baby will not be wet and uncomfortable in such panties at night.
