Should I give Analgin to a child?

Analgin is known for its properties to relieve pain and lower body temperature. For this purpose, this drug has long been used by adults, but is it possible to give it to children, at what age is analgin treatment permissible and how much drug is allowed to be given to babies?

Composition and form of release

Analgin is available in different dosage forms:

  • Rectal suppositories... They are represented by white bullet-shaped candles (cream or yellow tint or white bloom is possible), packed in blisters of 5 pieces. One pack contains 10 candles.
  • Pills... They are often white and round in shape. They are packaged in blisters or jars. One package can contain 10, 20, 30 and more tablets.
  • Solution for injections. It is represented by a sterile 25% or 50% liquid, which is injected intramuscularly or into a vein. This liquid Analgin is sold in 1 ml and 2 ml ampoules. One package contains 5 or 10 ampoules.

The active substance in any of the variants of the drug is sodium metamizole. 1 ml of the injectable form of Analgin may contain 250 mg or 500 mg of such a compound. The dosage of the active ingredient in one tablet is 500 mg. One candle contains 100 or 250 mg of metamizole.

In tablet form, additional substances are calcium or magnesium stearate, povidone, talc, microcrystalline cellulose and other compounds that help create a hard tablet. In ampoules of Analgin, besides the active ingredient and sterile water, there are no other components. In addition to metamizole, solid fats are added to the candles.

How does it work?

Analgin is a representative of the group of non-steroidal antipyretic analgesics... The main action of Analgin is to block the conduction of pain impulses, therefore this medicine is especially in demand for different types of pain. He also has a very strong antipyretic effect, but the anti-inflammatory effect of such a drug is not very significant. When compared with Analgin Nurofen or Paracetamol, the antipyretic and analgesic effect of Analgin will be higher.

The video explains why analgin must be used to eliminate or reduce pain of various origins.

Can I give it to children?

In the annotation to Analgin it is indicated that the medicine can be used in childhood from 3 months, however prescribing this medication for children under one year old is permissible only with serious indications. Giving Analgin to babies of the first year of life without a doctor's prescription is unacceptable.

At the age of over 1 year, the drug is prescribed in suppositories (children's dosage), and the tablet form is used in children who can swallow tablets without problems. Injections are prescribed only by a doctor in situations requiring quick relief from pain or high fever. Usually, in childhood, Analgin injections are used only in the critical condition of the child.

Most pediatricians, including the popular doctor Komarovsky, allow the use of Analgin to lower the temperature or get rid of pain only as a temporary and quick-acting measure... They prefer pain relievers and antipyretic medications with less harmful side effects, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, to children.

Treatment with Analgin, according to doctors, is possible if other non-steroidal drugs are ineffective, as well as in the absence of other drugs at hand. If it is possible to use paracetamol or ibuprofen, then it is better to choose just such medicines for children.

What is dangerous for children?

The danger of such a medicine for children's health is due to its frequent side effects. Analgin often provokes allergies, which can also manifest as anaphylactic shock. Also, from taking Analgin, the temperature and blood pressure can drop too quickly and for a very long time.

The negative effect of this drug on hematopoiesis is also noted, in particular, on the number of leukocytes in the blood, the result of a decrease in which can be infectious and inflammatory complications. In some children, treatment with Analgin provokes side effects so severe that it is fatal.

Due to the high risk of negative effects, doctors advise giving the child Analgin only in rare cases, if there is no possibility of using safer means. In addition, it is recommended to predominantly use such a medication once. This makes Analgin a reserve drug. Adults should not drink this medicine while carrying a baby or breastfeeding.

In no case should Analgin be used for severe abdominal pain, if the child has not yet been diagnosed. It is often a symptom of a serious illness, so pain relief can blur the clinical picture and interfere with timely treatment.

  • Before the introduction of suppositories, an enema is recommended so that the medicine works more effectively. The suppository is carefully inserted into the rectum, after which the little patient should stay in bed for at least half an hour.

  • Intramuscular injections can also be given at home. The medicine is injected into the thigh or shoulder at the place where the muscles are closest to the surface of the body. Injection into the gluteal muscles is not recommended due to the high risk of getting under the skin.
  • The use of Analgin should be short-lived... If the medicine is used for pain, then the treatment lasts up to 5 days, and when using the drug as an antipyretic, it is recommended to limit yourself to 3 days of therapy. If a longer intake is necessary, the child is assigned a blood test.

This is how the daily dose is determined, which is divided into 2 or 3 doses. In this case, single dosages should not exceed the following recommendations:

Over the age of 14 years, you can give from 250 to 500 mg of Analgin at one time.

Analgin suppositories are prescribed in the following dosage:

Overdose

Too high a dose of Analgin can lead to nausea, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, vomiting, drowsiness, and tinnitus. The patient's temperature and blood pressure may sharply drop, the pulse becomes faster, and the volume of urine decreases. In case of serious poisoning, impaired consciousness, acute disruption of the liver and kidneys, convulsions, hemorrhages and other negative symptoms are possible.

If the drug was taken in a very high dosage inside, vomiting should be provoked, and after washing the stomach, give drugs from the group of sorbents and laxatives. Drinking plenty of fluids is also recommended. In case of a severe overdose, the child is hospitalized, convulsions and other acute disorders are eliminated, and hemodialysis is prescribed.

Purchase and storage conditions

Analgin is sold by prescription... The average cost of a pack of 20 tablets is 35-40 rubles. You need to store the drug in a dry place where the temperature will not exceed +25 degrees. At the same time, the medicine should not be freely available for a small child.

Shelf life of tablets and ampoules - 5 years, candles - 3 years. The medicine from the opened ampoule must be used immediately. Storage is allowed no longer than 15 minutes. If the drug has been open for longer, the contents of the ampoule should be discarded.

Reviews

There are different reviews about the use of Analgin in children. Some mothers are pleased with the use of this medicine in a child, noting that Analgin helped to reduce persistent temperature or very quickly eliminated severe pain. Other parents complain of side effects and consider treatment with Analgin in childhood an unjustified risk.

Combination with other medicines

  • Taking Analgin with other drugs with an analgesic effect will lead to an increase in their toxic effect, so side symptoms will appear to a greater extent.
  • Analgin will be more toxic if used with allopurinol or antidepressants.
  • The effect of treatment with Analgin decreases when this drug is combined with barbiturates, and when tranquilizers or sedatives are prescribed, it, on the contrary, will increase.
  • Reception of Analgin will enhance the therapeutic effect of hypoglycemic agents, glucocorticoids and indirect anticoagulants. It can be prescribed with dexamethasone, warfarin, prednisolone, and other drugs.
  • The injection form of Analgin should not be mixed in the same syringe with any other medicine.
  • To lower the temperature, Analgin is often combined with Suprastin and No shpa. Other options for the mixture, which is called lytic, can be a combination of Analgin with Diphenhydramine and Papaverine.
  • Using a mixture of Paracetamol and Analgin in the fight against fever can be dangerous due to the risk of severe hypothermia and collapse. Paracetamol enhances the toxic effects of Analgin, therefore their combination is not recommended.

Analogs

Instead of Analgin for severe pain, Baralgin M, Spazgan, Pentalgin N, Spazmalgon, Tempalgin and other agents can be used. Each of these drugs has its own contraindications and limitations, so it is better to choose an analgesic together with a pediatrician.
