Sinupret for children: instructions for use

Runny nose and sinusitis are a fairly common problem in both adults and children of different ages. However, local remedies that drip or spray into the nose are not always used to treat such diseases.

Some of the drugs that work on the lining of the nasopharynx are taken by mouth, such as a drug called Sinupret. Its plant base makes it popular in the treatment of children. When it is prescribed to young patients, how is it properly given to babies and how long can it be taken in childhood?

Release form

Sinupret is produced by the German company Bionorica in two forms.

  1. Drops that are taken orally. This drug is sold in bottles made of dark glass. The bottle has a drip device for easy dispensing. A yellowish-brown aromatic liquid is poured into the bottle. It is rarely transparent, since the plant raw materials in the composition of the drug usually precipitate in a slight sediment or cause slight turbidity. However, such turbidity or the presence of settled particles at the bottom does not indicate damage to the drug, but is considered the norm.
  2. Dragee... This Sinupret is placed in blisters of 25 pieces, and one pack contains 50 or 100 pills. They have a convex round shape and a greenish shell.

In capsules, sprays, ampoules, tablets, nasal drops and other forms, such a medication is not produced.

Composition

The action of both forms of Sinupret is provided by extracts from five plants, including:

  • elder - for the medicine, its flowers are used, rich in vitamin C, essential oils and organic acids;
  • gentian - the medicine includes an extract from its roots containing gentianin;
  • verbena - the preparation includes an extract from the herb of such a plant, which contains verbenamine, flavonoids, tannin and other compounds;
  • sorrel - for drops and dragees, its herb, rich in trace elements, is needed;
  • primrose - an extract from its flowers is added to the medicine, which acts as a source of essential oils, carotenoids, vitamins and other substances.

The content of gentian extract per 100 grams of drops is 0.2 g, and other extracts are presented in this form of Sinupret in an amount of 0.6 g. The same ratio was used in the manufacture of a solid preparation. In one dragee, gentian extract is presented in a dose of 6 mg, and the remaining extracts - in 18 mg each.

Extracts from plants, which are contained in Sinupret in drops, are hydroalcoholic, and only pure water and ethanol act as additional components of this product. The content of ethyl alcohol in the medicine is 16-19% of the volume of the entire medicine.

Dragee extracts are supplemented with potato starch, stearic acid, silicon dioxide, gelatin, lactose, water and sorbitol. These components form a dense core of the preparation, and sucrose, green varnish, dextrin, castor oil, talc, mountain wax and some other compounds are used to make the shell of such a Sinupret, thanks to which it becomes dense and smooth.

Operating principle

The components of Sinupret, extracted from medicinal plants, have a complex effect on the patient's body. Biologically active compounds in their composition have such effects.

  • Anti-inflammatory... All active ingredients of the drug have the ability to localize and eliminate the inflammatory process in the cells of the mucous membrane.
  • Secretolytic... Due to the presence of substances from verbena and gentian in Sinupret, the mucus that forms on the surface of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx becomes more liquid.
  • Decongestant. The medication helps to reduce tissue swelling, promoting its resorption.
  • Secretomotor... The drug affects the activity of mucus production in the respiratory tract and prevents its stagnation, since it facilitates its outflow.
  • Moderate antibacterial... Sinupret not only directly affects harmful microbes, but also further enhances the effectiveness of antibacterial treatment.
  • Antiviral... Thanks to extracts from verbena and primrose, the drug has been found to suppress the activity of certain viruses (respiratory syncytial, parainfluenza, influenza).

Due to this effect, the exudate formed in the nasopharynx becomes more liquid and easier to excrete, as a result of which the nasal cavity is cleared of mucus. This action helps prevent possible complications, such as otitis media. In addition, with Sinupret treatment, the drainage function of the paranasal sinuses is restored, the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses are cleared, and breathing through the nose is facilitated.

The drug also strengthens local immunity by stimulating the protective function of the epithelium of the nasopharynx.

Indications

The main reason for prescribing Sinupret ENT doctors consider sinusitis (frontal sinusitis, sphenoiditis, sinusitis or ethmoiditis), in which a viscous secretion forms in the nasopharynx. The drug is used for both acute inflammation and chronic inflammation. It is also prescribed for rhinitis, tracheobronchitis, pharyngitis, adenoiditis or laryngotracheitis.

At what age can you give?

The drug in drops is used in the treatment of children over two years old. If the child has not yet turned 2 years old, together with the doctor, another medication should be selected for him that is safe for babies in the first years of life.

Sinupret in solid form is prescribed no earlier than 6 years of age, since studies on the use of pills in younger children have not been carried out and it is more difficult for young children to swallow such a drug than to take drops.

Contraindications

Both types of Sinupret do not give in case of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug. Since the drops include alcohol, they are prescribed with caution for injuries and diseases of the brain, as well as for children with epilepsy and liver diseases. Dragees, due to the presence of lactose, sucrose and glucose syrup in their composition, are not prescribed even for such problems:

  • lactase deficiency;
  • intolerance to fructose;
  • deficiency of sucrase-isomaltase;
  • lactose intolerance;
  • intolerance to galactose;
  • glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Side effects

Due to herbal ingredients, Sinupret can provoke allergies. Such a reaction to the medication is manifested by skin redness, shortness of breath, itching, angioedema or skin rash. In addition, in some patients, taking the medication can cause problems with the digestive tract, such as stomach pain or nausea.

If such side effects appear after one or more receptions of Sinupret, you should stop treatment and show the child to the doctor.

Instructions for use

Since the extracts in the composition of the drops during storage can settle to the bottom, such a preparation must be shaken before each use. Liquid Sinupret in the dose prescribed by the doctor is dripped into a small amount of water and then given to the child to drink.

Dragee is offered to be swallowed without biting, so as not to damage its shell. The drug should be taken with clean water. If the child is over 6 years old but has difficulty swallowing solid medication, it is permissible to use drops.

The dose of Sinupret in liquid form for a child 2-6 years old is 15 drops, for patients of school age - 25 drops.

A single dosage of solid medicine for children over six years of age is one tablet. Both types of medication should be taken three times a day, and the course of treatment usually lasts from 7 days to two weeks.

If at the end of this period the symptoms of the disease still remain, a doctor's examination is required, who may prescribe a second Sinupret reception.

Inhalation

Sometimes ENT doctors prescribe Sinupret to children not inside, but in the form of inhalations, which are done in a nebulizer. For such procedures, only drops can be used. Before inhalation, they are diluted with saline using the following proportions:

  • for a child 2-6 years old, take 3 parts of saline for 1 part of Sinupret;
  • if the patient is over 6 years old, then the drops are diluted in a 1: 2 ratio;
  • for adolescents 16 years of age and older, it is recommended to dilute the medication by half (1: 1).

For one inhalation use 3-4 ml of a solution prepared in the indicated proportion, pouring it into a nebulizer. The procedure is performed three times a day, and during inhalation, the child must breathe through his nose.

One of the side effects of this treatment is a change in the color of the mucous membrane - it becomes yellow-brown, like the drops themselves. It is not dangerous, and soon after the completion of the course of inhalations, the color returns to normal.

Overdose

If you accidentally drink a higher dose of the drug, it can provoke allergies or a negative reaction in the gastrointestinal tract, for example, cause severe nausea. In case of an overdose, a doctor's examination and the use of symptomatic agents are recommended.

Interaction with other drugs

Sinupret is often prescribed together with antibacterial agents (Zinnat, Suprax, Azithromycin, Panklav, Augmentin, etc.), since drops or pills only eliminate symptoms, and antibiotics act on the cause of the disease.

There is no information about incompatibility with other medicines in the instructions for Sinupret.

Terms of sale

Sinupret drops are sold over the counter without a prescription. To purchase pills, a prescription from a doctor is also not required, but examination of the patient is desirable, because the pediatrician or ENT doctor will not only determine the need for treatment with such a remedy, but also prescribe other drugs in order to affect the disease in a complex manner.

The average price of 50 pills is 350 rubles, and for one bottle of drops you need to pay from 340 to 400 rubles.

Storage conditions

Sinupret should be kept in a dry place at home, out of direct sunlight. In addition, the medication should be inaccessible to babies. The optimum storage temperature is below 25 degrees Celsius.

Dragee shelf life is 3 years. Drops in a sealed form can also be stored for up to three years from the date of their manufacture, but after the first use, such a drug should be used within 6 months.

If the bottle was opened six months ago, but the solution still remains in it, it must be discarded.

Reviews

Moms and doctors speak about Sinupret mostly positively. According to the parents, it is an effective remedy for lingering rhinitis, nasal congestion or sinusitis. The drug is praised for its natural composition and two forms, which allows you to choose the right remedy for different patients.

To the disadvantages of drops include their high cost, the presence of alcohol in this form and the limitation of the shelf life after opening.

Dragee advantages called a small size and a sweet shell, so that schoolchildren in most cases swallow such Sinupret without problems. Among the cons many mothers also note the high cost of such a medicine. In addition, there are reviews with complaints about a very long manifestation of the therapeutic effect or its absence.

Doctors, including the popular doctor Komarovsky, consider Sinupret an effective medicine and are often used in their practice to treat chronic and acute processes in the paranasal sinuses and upper respiratory tract. They rarely note negative reactions to such a medication.

Analogs

A drug can replace Sinupret GeloMyrtol, which also has a vegetable base, consisting of alpha-pinene, cineole and limonene. This remedy is available in capsules and is used in children over 6 years old. It has a similar effect to Sinupret, therefore GeloMyrtol is in demand for sinusitis, adenoids, bronchitis and laryngitis.

It eliminates stagnation of secretions in the nasopharynx and bronchi, helps to cure cough faster, reduces the activity of inflammation and prevents further spread of infection through the respiratory tract.

There is also a drug GeloMyrtol forte. It is also presented in capsules, but the dosage of all active substances in them is increased by 2.5 times in comparison with the usual GeloMyrtol. This drug is prescribed for patients over 10 years of age.

Another analogue of Sinupret, which has a similar effect, can be called Sinuforte... Such a herbal remedy is in demand in the inflammatory process in the nose and paranasal sinuses. Its medicinal effect is provided by an extract from cyclamen.

Such a medication is produced in the form of lyophilisate vials. By adding a solvent (water for injection) inside, a solution is obtained, which is sprayed onto the nasal mucosa. In children, the drug can be used from 5 years of age.

Instead of Sinupret, the doctor may also advise Umckalor... This solution contains an extract from pelargonium, which has mucolytic and antimicrobial properties.

It is popular in the complex treatment of various respiratory diseases in children, since it is plant-based and approved for patients over a year old. Such a remedy is taken orally.

Can I give it at the same time as Tonsilgon?

Tonsilgon N is also a Bionorica product and comes in the same dosage forms as Sinupret. This is also a herbal remedy, but its composition is different - the medicine contains extracts from marshmallow, oak, horsetail, chamomile, yarrow, dandelion and other plants.

The main action of Tonsilgon N is anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Such effects make it possible to use this remedy together with Sinupret for pharyngitis, laryngitis and viral infections (to prevent complications). The drug in drops is given to children over one year old, and pills - from the age of six.

Is it used together with Euphorbium?

Unlike Sinupret, a remedy called Euphorbium Compositum Nasentropfen C is a homeopathic medicine. It also comes in the form of a nasal spray. Only indications are common to such medicines, since both drugs are prescribed for rhinitis and sinusitis. Their simultaneous use is not prohibited, but Euphorbium should not be sprayed on children under 4 years of age.

Doctor Komarovsky will tell you about sinusitis and its treatment in the next video.
