Beige discharge in early pregnancy

Discharge from the genital tract is a completely physiological phenomenon for any woman. However, if at the same time they acquire an uncharacteristic color for a normal state, a pungent smell, or become intense, then this indicates some kind of pathology that requires therapy. If such phenomena are noted during pregnancy, then such changes require even more attention from the expectant mother and her doctor. This article will focus on beige vaginal discharge during pregnancy. What problems this symptom can indicate and is there a threat to the fetus in this situation - these are the questions of interest to many expectant mothers.

Beige discharge as a symptom of an infectious process

Most often, beige discharge during early pregnancy is due to the presence of an inflammatory process in the reproductive and urinary systems, which has a latent form of flow. Basically, these processes are provoked by the emerging activity of opportunistic microflora, which manifested itself against the background of a decrease in immunity in the first weeks of pregnancy. It is better to cure such diseases completely at the stage of conception planning than after its onset.

Often, a similar situation can arise when a woman becomes pregnant and her immune defenses have weakened, and because of this, latent infections have begun to appear.

In this case, it is possible to treat pathologies, a sign of which will be creamy discharge, only by those therapeutic methods that do not have a toxic effect on the developing fetus.

Beige discharge during pregnancy does not always indicate a pathology that requires medical intervention, because quite often they have a completely safe origin. To determine how dangerous such manifestations are, you need to be vigilant. First, you need to carefully monitor all your subjective feelings. Secondly, if the scanty vaginal discharge suddenly became much more intense, changed color or became fetid, then this is a serious reason to immediately consult a doctor.

Sometimes a pregnant woman may notice that blood impurities appeared in the light beige daub, as at the beginning of menstruation. Most likely, such a symptom indicates a successful implantation of the ovum. Of course, this only applies to the first weeks of pregnancy, but if this lasts a long enough time, and the intensity of bloody discharge increases and they begin to smell unpleasant, then you need to conduct an examination and, based on its results, prescribe treatment.

In the vast majority of cases, creamy discharge occurs as a result of inflammatory pathologies of the cervix, which can be diagnosed using a gynecological smear. During pregnancy, a woman's body experiences biochemical loads uncharacteristic of a normal state.

Now all resources are directed to the intrauterine development of the fetus and the provision of all its needs, so sometimes there is nothing left to satisfy the body's own needs. First of all, this concerns a decrease in the activity of immunity, which is why the body of a pregnant woman cannot fully resist the attack of various infectious agents. Therefore, during this period, chronic diseases are often exacerbated and latent infections appear, which can lead to spontaneous abortion or the development of structural abnormalities in the fetus.

The most dangerous infections for pregnant women

If a woman has an uncharacteristic and offensive beige vaginal discharge in the early weeks of gestation, then she should inform the doctor about this, since such a symptom may indicate the presence of infectious diseases. It is definitely not worth ignoring the problem - it may indicate the occurrence of one of a number of serious diseases.

  • Vaginal dysbiosis. This pathology is characterized by the appearance of thick and dark vaginal discharge, which appears as a result of changes in the local flora.
  • Cervicitis (inflammation of the cervical canal). The color of the discharge in this case will depend on the type of infectious agent.

  • Inflammation of the fallopian tubes. This pathology can also manifest itself in the form of an unusual daub. In this situation, the discharge in the second trimester and in the first weeks of gestation may be beige, red, or yellow. In addition, pain in the lower abdomen may join a similar symptom.
  • Sexually transmitted infections (trichomoniasis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc.). This group of diseases is also characterized by beige vaginal discharge, however, the mucus will contain foul-smelling impurities of pus, and symptoms of fever (general malaise, fever, headache, joint aches, etc.) will appear.

It is not possible to independently identify the true cause of vaginal discharge. This can be done exclusively through a series of laboratory tests.

Other causes of beige discharge during pregnancy

From the moment of successful implantation of the ovum into the endometrium, the hormonal background of the female body begins to change. Such changes affect the nature of the discharge from the genital tract - they become more viscous and opaque. However, they should not have a pronounced color, unpleasant odor and be accompanied by other symptoms. (itching or burning in the genital area, discomfort during urination, abdominal pain, fever, etc.).

If there are no extraneous symptoms, such a phenomenon can be considered a physiological norm in the first trimester, and this is explained by an increase in the concentration of the hormone progesterone: thanks to it, the cervical mucus becomes unusually viscous, as a result of which a so-called mucous plug is formed, which protects the fetus from any influence of the external environment.

Already in the second trimester, the concentration of estrogen rises in the woman's body, as a result of which the vaginal discharge acquires a more liquid structure.

Small, beige-brown vaginal discharge may result from intercourse or intravaginal (intravaginal) ultrasound. This is due to the fact that the mucous layer of the uterus during pregnancy acquires a loose structure, which makes it more vulnerable to all kinds of mechanical stress.

Also, a beige-brown vaginal discharge can indicate serious pathologies, such as an ectopic pregnancy, detachment of the ovum, or erosion of the cervix. An ectopic pregnancy is accompanied by acute pain in the lower abdomen, and the discharge becomes scarlet and turns into bleeding. At the time of rupture of the fallopian tube, a woman's blood pressure drops sharply and symptoms of an "acute abdomen" appear.

This condition is considered life-threatening and requires urgent care.

What a pregnant woman should do if beige discharge appears

To begin with, all changes occurring in the body of a pregnant woman must be reported to the doctor. The specialist will conduct an examination and prescribe all the necessary examinations, on the basis of which it will be possible to consider the feasibility of drug therapy. If the discharge becomes creamy, changes color, accompanied by other concomitant symptoms, the doctor may raise the question of treatment in a hospital.

As a preventive measure, obstetricians-gynecologists recommend, first of all, to pass all the necessary examinations in a timely manner. In addition, the expectant mother must adhere to the basic principles of a balanced diet, avoid stress, adhere to an optimal regime of physical activity and rest. The wearing of cotton underwear by a pregnant woman can also be considered a preventive measure, which will significantly reduce the risk of candidiasis and other inflammatory processes of the vaginal mucosa.

In order to more effectively control changes in the nature of the discharge, it is recommended to use sanitary napkins for daily use. However, tampons cannot be used for this purpose, as they contribute to the development of infection in the genital tract.

Outcome

The physiological norm during pregnancy is a one-time beige or brown vaginal discharge, which most likely indicates the completion of implantation of the ovum into the endometrium of the uterus. If such discharge appears regularly, takes on an unpleasant odor, turns into blood smear, and is also accompanied by other accompanying symptoms, you must immediately notify the doctor.
