At what age can a child be given red caviar?

Red caviar is often found on the festive table of our compatriots, therefore, when a small child appears in the family, parents are interested in how old they can give such a product to children, how red caviar is useful for the child's body and how it can harm.

Benefit

Red caviar, which is obtained from salmon fish, is loved not only for its pleasant taste and the opportunity to prepare delicacies and festive dishes with such a product, but also for its useful composition. Caviar contains easily digestible proteins, polyunsaturated fatty acids, lecithin, iodine, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, potassium, manganese and many other trace elements. Such a product is rich in vitamins A, D, E, PP, K, C and group B.

Red caviar has properties to improve brain function and strengthen immunity. The use of this product has a positive effect on blood circulation in the capillaries and reduces the risk of thrombosis. In addition, red caviar supports thyroid function and promotes proper bone formation.

Harm

  • Allergy often occurs to red caviar (most often in the form of a skin rash). Moreover, it does not always appear from the first try, therefore, the child should be carefully observed after each use of caviar.
  • Many cans of red caviar that are now sold in stores contain additives that are harmful to children. These include urotropine, which in the human body is capable of being converted into a toxic substance. Even approved additives, which are sodium benzoate and sorbic acid, are far from harmless, so their intake into the child's body should be limited.
  • Red caviar belongs to high-calorie foods, so its excessive amount in the diet contributes to weight gain (especially if you decorate sandwiches with butter with eggs).
  • There are cases of individual intolerance to red caviar. With it, the child will have nausea, loose stools, skin rashes, vomiting and other negative symptoms.

Caviar should not be given to children with diabetes, kidney and heart disease, since this product has a rather high salt concentration.

At what age to give

Most pediatricians, including the popular doctor Komarovsky, advise starting to give a child red caviar from the age of three. Doctors are sure that this product should not be given to an infant. Caviar is not recommended for a one-year-old baby either, since the risk of allergies and other negative effects on a child's body under the age of 3 is much higher than the benefits of this product.

How to introduce into the diet

For the first time, it is enough for a child to give only a few eggs, observing the reaction to a new product. If the tolerance of red caviar is good, you can gradually increase its portion, offering no more than 15 g of product per day. The frequency of use of caviar in childhood should not exceed 2 times a week. In addition, the product should not be given to children before bedtime, so that the excess amount of salt in the caviar does not provoke thirst and an increase in the volume of drinking at night.

What to cook

Most often, children are given red caviar, spreading it on a sandwich or half a boiled egg.

You can also use eggs:

  • Garnish with an omelet or mashed potatoes. Bright orange eggs will not only be an excellent flavoring addition to such traditional dishes, but also make them attractive. In addition, with the help of caviar, you can "draw" some interesting picture, for example, a fish or a flower.
  • Add salad. Red caviar goes well with boiled eggs, cheese, boiled potatoes, avocados, squid and other ingredients.
  • Stuff the pancakes. Red caviar has long been used as a filling for pancakes.
  • Stuff baked potatoes. Potatoes should be thoroughly washed and baked in foil until tender. Then the potatoes need to be cut into quarters, on each slice, put a little cottage cheese mixed with herbs, salt and sour cream, and decorate with red caviar on top.

How to choose red caviar for a child

When purchasing caviar in a jar, carefully read the label, paying attention to the manufacturer, the date of manufacture, as well as the date of packaging of the product. In addition to caviar, oil and salt, the product must contain only authorized additives (E200 or E211). It is best to prefer caviar in a glass jar, since in such a container you can see the eggs.

When buying caviar by weight for a child, pay attention to the appearance of the product (the eggs should be firm and dense, evenly colored), its smell (it should not be too pronounced and fishy) and taste (a slight bitterness is acceptable). Do not buy caviar with a strong flavor, "deflated" or speckled eggs.
