Green stools with mucus in children

If your baby has green stools with mucus in it, this is a concern for most parents. Why can such a coloration appear in the child's stool? What does the presence of mucus in the baby's feces indicate?

When is it normal?

A baby who is breastfed may have a greenish stool and mucus in it may be normal. This is due to the immaturity of the baby's body - both the intestine and the enzymatic systems.

In a bottle-fed baby, the stool is darker, thicker, and the odor is more unpleasant. The baby's stool can acquire a green color when it is outdoors for a while. This is normal and should not worry the parents.

Also, greens and mucus can appear in the stool of a nursing baby when green food is present in his mother's diet.

Causes

When there is mucus in the child's stool, and the stool itself is greenish, this may indicate the development of dysbiosis. In addition to changes in stool, this condition is characterized by the appearance of rashes on the skin, colic, anxiety of the child, and sleep problems.

The green color of the stool of the artificial baby can be caused by the introduction of a new mixture into his diet, with the digestion of which the baby's body does not cope well. In this case, after observing the child, you should change the mixture to another.

Green colored mucus is also a symptom of celiac disease or lactose intolerance.

If there are fragments of blood in the stool of crumbs in addition to mucus, you should immediately go with the baby to the doctor. It is also mandatory to consult a doctor when the amount of mucus in the stool is very large, and the smell of feces has become unpleasant (putrid). Most often, these symptoms indicate damage to the colon, for example, colitis, diverticulitis, cystic fibrosis.

What to do?

If you find mucus in the stool of a breastfed baby, but the baby's condition is normal, ohn is not restless, is not capricious and the behavior has not changed, which means that you do not need to pay attention to the appearance of mucus.
