Children's single bed

Children's single bed - almost guaranteed the right purchase for every family in which there is at least one child. This type of furniture seems completely simple, but it is this apparent simplicity that complicates the choice a little.

Advantages and disadvantages

This product is so natural in a children's room that it is rather difficult to single out any specific advantages - after all, they are chosen in comparison with something, while a single bed has practically no alternative. However, it is the children's version that still has a couple of obvious advantages. Firstly, psychologists believe that the size of any person's bed should approximately correspond to its parameters, which means that the child is not too comfortable sleeping on a full-fledged adult bed. Secondly, since the furniture is designed specifically for children, it is often designers decorate it in a fabulous style, turning into a kind of big toy.

The cons of a single baby bed are situational, the only permanent one is that the child will eventually outgrow the size of the bed, but this is not so critical, because the product can always be resold. Among other disadvantages, it is worth noting that it is impractical in a very limited space, because this is not the most compact of the possible options, and if there are several children, then it is better to pay attention to the models that provide for two berths in one building.

Kinds

A single children's bed can be so diverse that you can count at least five types of such furniture. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages:

  • Classic bed with four legs, as an option - in an unusual design. It does not perform any functions, except for providing a sleeping place, but it fits very harmoniously into rooms where the space is not so limited.
  • Bed with drawers. If there is not so much space in the nursery, you can combine a bed and a bedside table in one building. This is very practical, however, the boxes built into the body raise the bed high enough, which makes it difficult for the child to access and leaves the risk of falling from a rather high height - either do not allow very young children to sleep there, or choose models with a rail.

  • Bed with a lifting mechanism... In principle, the same as the previous version, only instead of several small boxes we will have one big one - in the size of the case. You can open it by lifting the berth.
  • Loft bed... Here the manufacturers went even further and combined the sleeping place not with a bedside table, but with a whole wardrobe! In fact, you will have to sleep right on its roof, but the space savings are enormous.
  • Podium bed... This option is good in a room with really high ceilings. A flooring is made over the berth, on which you can equip a full-fledged work or play area.

Dimensions

Since we are talking about a special children's bed, it should be selected in such a way that in its dimensions it approximately corresponds to the height of the child. It should be borne in mind that it is constantly and rather rapidly growing., therefore, when choosing, you need to think in advance at what age you do not plan to change the crib - it is from the dimensions expected at that age, not the current ones, that you need to build on.

If we talk about the length of the berth, then it should exceed the height of its owner by 15-20 centimeters. Width for children from 3 years old is recommended in the region of 80 centimeters, for teenagers - 90-100 centimeters; such a relatively small difference is due to the fact that babies, on average, spin more in their sleep, while older children sleep peacefully.

The height for kids is limited to half a meter, otherwise it will be problematic for them to get upstairs.

Materials

The choice of material for a baby bed is carried out according to the same principles as for adults, only here even more attention is paid to the issues of environmental friendliness and hypoallergenicity of the product. The absolute leader in all respects is an array of natural wood - primarily oak and beech, as well as a number of other, softer species. These materials are completely safe for a child, and are also very strong and durable, so they will withstand any childish pranks. The only negative is the rather high cost of wooden furniture.

As a worthy alternative, MDF wood boards can act, which also do not pose any threat to humans and differ in good strength indicators, and at the same time are much cheaper. Experts recommend to be skeptical about the rest of the materials. The metal is durable and environmentally friendly, but at the same time it is always cold and has an increased risk of injury.

As for plastic and especially chipboard, they are not recommended to be chosen at all - the low cost should not lure the consumer, because it is due to the low quality of the product and the high probability of toxic fumes.

Colors

Modern manufacturers produce beds in a variety of colors, however, furniture of wood origin often leaves a natural color, or they paint it in a different similar tone - this is a universal solution that goes well with almost any interior. The white bed has a similar compatibility.

Any color options are no longer considered neutral and suggest a certain compatibility with the interior. There are no particular restrictions for ladies' beds, but preference is given to delicate shades - first of all, pastel, pink and purple. A bed for a boy can be almost any color except pink, but a sharper tone is usually chosen here.

If the product is painted in a rather bright color, it is advisable that the baby does not see this while lying in bed, since excessive brightness excites him and prevents him from falling asleep normally.

How to choose for kids?

To choose the best baby bed, follow a few simple and logical advice:

  • The main criterion for choosing a bed is the convenience of resting on it.... It is, first of all, a sleeping place, and if the product does a poor job with this function, then no other advantages, be it additional storage boxes or excellent design, can justify such a choice.

  • If the room is rather cramped, choose a model that will replace other furniture (cabinet, wardrobe) and really save space. At the same time, if there is enough space, you should not choose a bed with functions that will not be used - most likely, this will somewhat reduce the comfort of rest.
  • Pay attention to design last, but you shouldn't ignore it either. The bed should be an interesting design decision in itself, and at the same time, fit well into the interior of the bedroom. However, do not forget that you are not buying it for yourself, so if the child is already big enough, it makes sense to ask his opinion. You can offer him not all possible models to choose from, but only those that you have already selected in advance.

We select a mattress

Choosing a mattress is just as important as choosing a bed. First of all, it is very important that the dimensions of the mattress and the bed match as closely as possible - this guarantees stability and comfort.

Mattresses are also distinguished by the degree of firmness. In childhood, the human musculoskeletal system is not yet formed, the spine is quite elastic, so an inappropriate basis for sleep is fraught with the occurrence of various disorders such as scoliosis. Most often, orthopedic mattresses of medium hardness are chosen for children, high hardness is also appropriate, but this is not for everybody, although experts believe that such a solution provides a deeper sleep.

As for soft mattresses, they are completely unacceptable for small children, since they do not support the back during sleep and contribute to the occurrence of disorders.

Beautiful bedroom interiors

In the first example, we see an ordinary, unremarkable children's single bed, which is suitable for both a boy and a girl, and is no different in design from an ordinary adult bed. This is a universal solution that does not imply additional functions, but it is appropriate in any situation.

The second photo shows a model that offers a much wider range of functions, really near a simple berth. The creators equipped it with storage boxes built into the body, but this was not enough for them, so they combined the bed with a small wardrobe. It looks quite stylish, even a little aristocratic, for the smallest children it may seem boring, but it will do for both teenagers and short adults.

The third bed demonstrates how a typical child model can differ from an adult. This is clearly female furniture - this is indicated by both pink and hearts, however, an adult woman will not choose this; this bed is for the little princess. A good example of how even cold metal can create comfort.
