Persen for children

Persen is a popular herbal sedative prescribed for adults with sleep problems or stress. But is it possible to give this remedy to children, in what cases and in what dosage?

Release form and composition

Persen is available in tablets that have a convex round shape and a dark brown shell. They are packaged in blisters of ten and sold in 2-8 blisters in one box. Each tablet contains the following dry extracts as active substances:

  • From Valerian 50 mg
  • From lemon balm - 25 mg.
  • Peppermint 25 mg

To them are added corn starch, MCC, lactose, crospovidone and some other ingredients that provide the tablet core with density. The drug shell is made of wax, povidone, sucrose, calcium carbonate, glycerin and other substances.

In addition to the usual Persen, in pharmacies there are two more options for such a medication - Persen Forte and Persen Night... Both of these drugs are presented in capsules and contain the same components as the tabletted Persen, but valerian is presented in a higher dosage (125 mg per capsule). The medication is sold in packs of 10 to 80 capsules of red-brown color.

Operating principle

All components of Persen have a calming effect and also have antispasmodic properties. Taking the drug helps to reduce the excitability of the nervous system and improve sleep.

Indications

Persen is prescribed for:

  • Stress and nervous overload.
  • Severe irritability, restlessness, and nervousness.
  • Insomnia and trouble falling asleep.
  • Increased CNS excitability.
  • Neurosis of moderate or weak severity.

The same indications are for Forte, and Persen Night is prescribed mainly for sleep disorders.

At what age is it prescribed?

Both Persen tablets and Noch or Forte capsules are prescribed for children over 12 years old.

If a medicine is required for a younger patient, for example, for a child of 7 years old, together with a doctor, they select a remedy with a similar effect, but permitted by age.

Contraindications

Persen tablets, as well as Night and Forte capsules are not used if the patient has:

  • Increased sensitivity to lemon balm, valerian, mint or auxiliary ingredients of tablets.
  • There is no sucrase, lactase or isomaltase in the body.
  • Have fructose or lactose intolerance.
  • Reduced blood pressure.
  • There are pathologies of the biliary tract.

Children with gastroesophageal reflux require caution in the treatment of Persen.

Side effects

The drug can provoke allergies in the form of skin redness, edema, dermatitis, bronchospasm, rash and other symptoms. Long-term use of pills sometimes causes constipation. No negative effects (withdrawal syndrome) appear after the end of the intake.

Instructions for use

The tablet must be swallowed and washed down with water. The diet does not affect the time of taking Persen. A single dose of the drug is 2-3 tablets, and they are advised to take them with irritability or nervous excitability twice / thrice a day. If the reason for the treatment is insomnia, then the drug is drunk at night - 30-60 minutes before the child goes to bed.

The maximum dosage of Persen per day is 12 tablets. The duration of use should be determined by the doctor, but the medication should not be drunk for more than 2 months. If, instead of a tablet medicine, the doctor prescribed a drug in Forte capsules, then they drink it according to the same scheme, but in a dose of 1-2 capsules per dose.

Persen Night is recommended to be taken in the evening with water. To get rid of insomnia, this medicine should be drunk an hour before bedtime.

Most often it is taken in 1 capsule, but sometimes your doctor may advise you to take 2 capsules at once. The course of treatment usually lasts 2-4 weeks.

Overdose and drug interactions

A very large dose of Persen provokes abdominal cramps, hand tremors, weakness, dizziness and other negative symptoms. To eliminate them, it is recommended to wash the stomach and consult a doctor.

Persen's treatment can enhance the effect of sleeping pills and any drugs that can depress the central nervous system. In addition, taking pills increases the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs and pain medications.

Terms of sale and storage

Persen is sold without a prescription and costs an average of 200 rubles for 20 tablets or 350 rubles for 40 tablets. For the purchase of Forte and Night capsules, a prescription is also not required. It is recommended to store the medication at home at room temperature in a place that will be dry and hidden from children. The shelf life of both tabletted Persen and Forte and Persen Night capsules is 3 years.

Reviews

On the use of Persen, both parents and many doctors (including Dr. Komarovsky) respond generally positively. They note the good effectiveness of such a medication, and also praise the herbal medicine and the absence of addiction. The disadvantages include a somewhat overpriced, as well as the fact that the therapeutic effect of the tablets is often not immediately apparent, but several weeks after the start of the intake. Side effects during admission, according to moms, are extremely rare.

Analogs

Instead of Persen, the doctor may prescribe another medicine that has a similar effect on the body, eg:
