Pimples on the gums in a child

Changes in the child's gums do not go unnoticed by the parents, since in most cases they bother the baby, hurt or itch. Quite often, pimples are found in the mouth of a toddler, which can appear both in infants and at an older age. What provokes their occurrence, is it dangerous and how are such gum problems in children treated?

Causes

The appearance of pimples on the gums can be a symptom of various problems, among which the most common are:

  • Herpes stomatitis. This disease, caused by the herpes virus, affects the oral mucosa with the formation of a blistering rash. Pimples with it are first transparent, then become cloudy and burst.
  • Purulent inflammation caused by untreated or poorly treated caries. It is manifested by the formation of a white-yellow pimple over the tooth, which is a cyst filled with pus. If it opens on its own, a fistula forms on the child's gum.
  • Zhiroviki. They are represented by benign, non-dangerous formations, which are removed only if their size increases or their appearance changes.

If you suspect your child has herpes stomatitis, we recommend watching the following video. It tells in detail about stomatitis and its symptoms.

What to do

If one or more pimples appear on the baby's gums, the baby should be taken to a pediatric dentist. After examination and additional examinations (if required), the doctor will determine the cause of changes in the oral mucosa and prescribe treatment that will help the child get rid of the rash on the gums.

For example, in case of herpes stomatitis, the baby will be prescribed antiviral drugs, gargles and anti-inflammatory treatment. If the pimple is a cyst, it is opened, after which the tooth affected by caries is removed (if it is milk) or treated (if the tooth is already permanent).

How to prevent

Preventive measures that protect the child from the appearance of pimples on the gums are:

  • Regular visits to the dentist.
  • Thorough proper cleaning of the oral cavity.
  • Personal hygiene and limiting contact with patients with herpes.
  • Heat treatment of food.
  • Timely treatment of diseases of teeth and gums.
  • Balanced nutrition to get the nutrients needed for gum development.
