Ointment "Gyoksizon" for children: instructions for use

For topical treatment of inflamed skin, your doctor may prescribe an ointment with several ingredients, such as Hyoxysone. Is it permissible to use it in children and what are the restrictions for treatment with such a medication in childhood?

Release form

The drug is a yellow ointment, which contains 10 grams in one aluminum tube. This medication is used exclusively externally - it is treated with the skin, trying not to get on the mucous membranes, nose or eyes.

Composition

The healing effect is provided by a combination of two ingredients:

  1. Hydrocortisone. Its amount in 100 g of the drug is 1 g. The compound is presented in the form of acetate.
  2. Oxytetracycline hydrochloride. It is presented in 100 grams of ointment in the amount of 3 g.

Additionally, the agent includes petroleum jelly, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and liquid paraffin.

Operating principle

The drug Hyoxyson combines a glucocorticoid hormone and an antibiotic of the tetracycline group, which enhance the effects of each other.

Thanks to hydrocortisone, the medicine:

  • Reduces the severity of inflammation.
  • Provides antiallergic effect.
  • Reduces itchy skin.
  • Helps eliminate puffiness.

Oxytetracycline has a bacteriostatic effect on many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, treponema, chlamydia and rickettsia. The ointment is absorbed through the skin in small quantities, therefore, such a medicine acts mainly locally.

Indications

Treatment with such a remedy is prescribed for skin diseases that are treated with glucocorticoids, if they are complicated by a bacterial infection (if the pathogen is sensitive to oxytetracycline).

The medicine is used:

  • With allergic dermatitis.
  • With superficial burns.
  • With streptoderma or boils.
  • With contact dermatitis.
  • With seborrheic dermatitis.
  • With eczema.
  • With insect bites.
  • With mild frostbite.
  • With solar dermatitis.
  • With exudative erythema.

From what age is it allowed to take?

Annotation attached to the preparation prohibits lubricating the skin with this drug for children under 2 years old... But even for older children, treatment is permissible only after consulting a doctor. If it is required to prescribe treatment for a child under one year old, a drug approved for an early age should be selected together with a pediatrician.

Contraindications

Hyoxysone is not prescribed for hypersensitivity of the child to hydrocortisone or another component.

In addition, the treatment is contraindicated in children with the following skin problems:

  • Tumors.
  • Viral lesions.
  • Vaccination reactions.
  • Perioral dermatitis.
  • Rosacea.
  • Dermatomycosis.
  • Skin tuberculosis.

Side effects

  • In some patients, the drug causes rash, itching and irritation at the treatment site. In addition, rarely, such treatment leads to allergies or superinfection.
  • If used on the face, the ointment can cause telangiectasias. Lubrication around the mouth often leads to atrophy of the subcutaneous tissue.
  • Due to poor absorption through the skin, the drug practically does not cause systemic negative reactions, although they are possible if the treated area is covered with an occlusive dressing or the medication is used on a large surface.

Instructions for use and dosage

  • The product should be applied to the skin in a small layer, using from 0.5 to 1 g of the drug per treatment.
  • Lubrication of the affected area is performed 1 to 3 times a day.
  • The duration of treatment is influenced by the localization of damage and the severity of the pathology. In this case, the drug is prescribed for children in a course of no longer than 5-7 days, and for adults - no more than 14 days. If the medicine is to be applied to the face, the therapy should be shorter.
  • In children, the skin is treated with the drug only in a limited area.
  • The oiled area can be covered with sterile ointment and bandage.

Overdose

Excessive long-term use and very heavy skin treatment suppress adrenal function, resulting in signs of hypercortisolism. In addition, a high dose of oxytetracycline can cause the growth of bacteria that are insensitive to it.

Interaction with other drugs

The impossibility of using the ointment together with other drugs has not been reported. However, it is important to know that immunization should not be performed during treatment, since glucocorticoids have an immunosuppressive effect.

Terms of sale and storage

The drug is sold only by prescription, and the average price of one tube is 60-70 rubles. It is necessary to store the drug at home at temperatures up to +25 degrees in a place where the child cannot get the drug. The shelf life of the medication is 3 years.

Reviews

Moms who used the remedy after a pediatrician's prescription respond differently to the medicine. Most parents note high efficiency, emphasizing that after treatment, wounds heal quickly and inflammation disappears. However, there are also negative reviews in which mothers say that the drug did not help, and they complain that the medication does not fight itching well.

Analogs

You can replace the drug with Oxycort ointment containing the same active substances. Also, after consulting a doctor, it is possible to replace with other drugs with a similar effect, for example, Akriderm Genta, Supirocin-B or Cortomycetin.
