Tizine for children: instructions for use

In viral and allergic diseases, a runny nose often appears, for the elimination of which drugs from the group of vasoconstrictors are used. It is to such drugs that Tizin belongs. This medication helps to ease breathing and relieve nasal congestion. In what dosage forms is it produced and is it prescribed in childhood? How to use "Tizine" correctly so as not to harm the health of the child?

Composition and form

The Tizin brand, owned by Johnson & Johnson, offers several anti-rhinitis drugs. Initially, a drug with this name contained tetrizoline and was produced in the form of nasal drops. Such a product is widespread abroad, and in Russia "Tizin" brand medicines are represented by several types of nasal sprays.

  • "Tizin Classic". This drug was previously called "Tizin Xylo". Its main component is xylometazoline hydrochloride. Depending on the concentration of such a compound, "Tizin Classic" is isolated for children (in 1 ml of such a drug there is 0.5 mg of active substance, that is, a 0.05% solution) and a more concentrated drug for adults (it is 0.1% - because it contains 1 mg of xylometazoline in each milliliter). Among the excipients in the "Classic" preparation you can see sodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, benzalkonium chloride and other components.
  • "Tizin Expert"... This medication was previously called "Tizin Xylo Bio". It is also presented in two dosages, like "Classic", and is intended for the same age categories (0.05% medication is called children's). The main difference between this drug is the presence of the second active substance - hyaluronic acid in the form of sodium hyaluronate. In addition, there is no preservative in the Expert line, which is benzalkonium chloride in the Classic preparations.

  • "Tizin Alerji"... This medication differs from the previous ones with an active substance, since it does not contain xylometazoline, but levocabastine. Such a substance in the form of a hydrochloride is presented in 1 ml of a solution in an amount of 0.5 mg, and one spray dose contains it in a dosage of 50 μg. Additionally, the preparation contains hypromellose, propylene glycol, sterile water and some other compounds.

According to their physical characteristics, all drugs are colorless (sometimes yellowish) solution, in which there are no suspensions or inclusions. The medicine may have a slight characteristic aroma. All medicines are sold in bottles made of brown glass ("Tizin Classic") or thick white polyethylene ("Tizin Expert" and "Tizin Alerji").

One bottle contains 10 ml of solution. The vials have a dispenser and a plastic cap. Since all sprays are dosed, a 0.05% drug contains 140 doses of the drug, and inside a 0.1% drug there are at least 70 doses. One bottle of "Tizin Alerji" is a source of 100 doses of the drug.

A special feature of the "Expert" line preparations is also the presence of a special system of filters and a spiral with silver ions inside the pump. This unique design prevents bacteria from entering the bottle.

Operating principle

According to their mechanism of action, the drugs "Classic" and "Expert" are alpha-adrenergic agonists. They affect the alpha adrenergic receptors, as a result of which the vessels contract, the amount of nasal discharge decreases, and the swelling disappears. The therapeutic effect after xylometazoline enters the nasal cavity develops within 5-10 minutes. In this case, the active component of the spray is almost not absorbed, but acts only at the point of contact with the medication.

The presence of hyaluronic acid in the composition of the Expert preparations gives such solutions an additional moisturizing effect. Thanks to this component, after treatment with a spray, the nasal mucosa is restored faster.

Levocabastine, which provides the action of "Tizin Allergy", is a blocker of histamine receptors. The consequence of its selective effect on these receptors will be the elimination of itching in the nose, sneezing and other symptoms of an allergic rhinitis. Like other products of this brand, This spray relieves the condition of patients 5 minutes after application and lasts up to 12 hours.

Indications

Taking into account the mechanism of action, "Tizin Alerji" is prescribed to patients who have been diagnosed with a year-round or seasonal rhinitis of an allergic nature. Preparations from the "Expert" and "Classic" lines can also be used for allergic rhinitis, but are prescribed in other situations:

  • if you need to eliminate congestion and swelling with a cold, provoked by ARVI or pathogenic bacteria;
  • if you want to facilitate the secretion of secretions with sinusitis;
  • if the child has middle ear inflammation;
  • if a small patient has some kind of manipulation in the nasopharynx area.

At what age is it assigned?

All types of "Tizin" are contraindicated for the treatment of children under two years of age. The drugs "Classic" and "Expert" for children containing xylometazoline at a concentration of 0.05% are prescribed at the age of 2-6 years, and solutions with a concentration of 0.1% are prescribed for patients over six years old. Spray "Alerji" can be used from the age of six.

Contraindications

The only reason to stop using "Tizin Alerji" in a child with allergic rhinitis is hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the spray. In addition, children with kidney disease require caution in treatment with this drug.

Other means of the brand "Tizin" are not prescribed:

  • with atrophic rhinitis;
  • with glaucoma;
  • with intolerance to the main or auxiliary ingredient;
  • with tachycardia or high blood pressure;
  • during surgery on the membranes of the brain in the past.

Doctor's supervision when using the "Classic" and "Expert" drugs is necessary for thyrotoxicosis, pheochromocytoma, porphyria or diabetes mellitus.

Side effects

After the treatment of the nasopharynx with preparations from the Expert or Classic lines, a burning sensation, increased nasal discharge or frequent sneezing may appear. In some patients, the use of a spray does not eliminate puffiness, but only intensifies it. Occasionally, after using these drugs, fatigue, insomnia, tachycardia, increased blood pressure, arrhythmia and other negative symptoms occur. In such situations, a doctor's examination is required.

Excessively prolonged treatment with "Tizin", the composition of which includes xylometazoline, can provoke the appearance of a drug-induced rhinitis. Due to the development of the phenomenon of recoil, nasal congestion increases, which is why the medicine has to be used even longer. The result of this "addiction" will be chronic swelling of the nasopharynx or even atrophy of the mucous membrane.

The use of "Tizin Alerji" sometimes causes nausea, burning in the nose, sinusitis, headache, pain in the nose, drowsiness, bleeding from the nose, sore throat, shortness of breath and other ailments. If such symptoms appear, it is recommended to show the patient to a doctor and choose another therapy.

Instructions for use

Before using any Tizin spray for the first time, you need to remove the protective cap from the bottle and make a few clicks so that a cloud of drug particles appears. Only after these actions can you start using in the dosage prescribed by your doctor. One press on the nebulizer equals one dose of medication.

When the drug is injected into the nasal cavity, the bottle should be placed vertically. Do not point spray down or to the side. Before using the spray, it is important to clear the mucous membrane of excess secretions, and during the injection, the child must breathe through his nose. After spraying, the bottle is closed with a cap and placed out of the reach of children.

A single dose of "Expert" and "Classic" drugs is one injection. A child under six years of age is given 0.05% medication once or twice a day. For children over six years old, the use of 0.1% spray is allowed up to three times during the day.

The duration of use of these drugs should not exceed 5-7 days, because a longer treatment threatens the emergence of addiction and adverse reactions. If you need to use the medicine longer, you should take a break for several days, and then continue therapy, after consulting your doctor.

The drug "Alerji" must be used twice a day, two doses in each nostril, which corresponds to a dosage of 200 mcg (100 mcg in one stroke). If the symptoms of rhinitis are very severe, the doctor may advise more frequent use - up to 4 times a day. The duration of treatment with such a drug is determined individually, since it is injected until the signs of allergy are eliminated.

Overdose

If the drugs "Classic" and "Expert" were used in a higher dose or the child accidentally drank the solution from the bottle, then the overdose will manifest itself with tachycardia, fever, nausea, respiratory problems, dilated pupils or other negative symptoms. In severe poisoning, drowsiness, bradycardia, pulmonary edema, cardiac arrest and other dangerous phenomena occur. If an overdose is found, immediately rinse the stomach and seek medical attention.

An overdose of the drug "Alerji" when used in the nose usually does not occur. If the patient accidentally drinks such a medicine, sedation develops, the rhythm of the heartbeat accelerates and the blood pressure decreases. In such a situation, an abundant drink is indicated so that the active substance of the solution is quickly excreted in the urine.

Drug interaction

Tizin Classic, like Tizin Expert, is incompatible with some antidepressants, since their combined use can adversely affect the cardiovascular system. The use of the Alerji spray is not recommended together with oxymetazoline preparations, as they will impair the absorption of levocabastine.

Terms of sale

Any of the Tizine brand sprays can be freely purchased at the pharmacy, since all these drugs are over-the-counter. The average price of a bottle of Tizina Classic for children is 100 rubles. For the 0.05% Expert drug you need to pay about 200 rubles, and the cost of the Alerji spray varies from 290 to 370 rubles.

Storage conditions

The shelf life of the Classic spray is 3 years, and the Alerji preparation is 2 years. Means of the "Expert" line, if they have not yet been opened, due to the absence of a preservative, can only be stored for 2 years from the date of manufacture. In addition, unlike other Tizin sprays, their shelf life after opening is reduced to 1 year from the date of first use.

The optimal temperature range for storing any of the sprays is called the range from +10 to +25 degrees.

The drugs should be placed in a place inaccessible to babies, where sunlight or moisture also does not get.

Reviews

On the preparations of the brand "Tizin", which contain xylometazoline, respond mostly positively. They are considered effective remedies for nasal congestion and swelling. These sprays are praised for their ease of use, fast healing effect and affordable price. The disadvantages of such medicines include a large list of contraindications, the inability to use in children under 2 years old, the development of addiction.

As for the spray "Alerji", the reviews about its use are different. In some, it is called a convenient and effective drug, in others they complain of a weak effect, high cost and the appearance of side reactions.

Analogs

Another vasoconstrictor drug, both based on xylometazoline and with a different composition, can replace the "Expert" and "Classic" drugs. If it is impossible to use "Tizin", doctors prescribe "Snoop", "Xymelin", "Otrivin", "Sanorin", "Nazivin", "Xilen", "Nazol" and similar drugs. They are presented as nasal sprays or nasal drops, and some drugs are also available in the form of a gel. An analogue should be selected only with a doctor, because they have different active substances and dosages, as well as contraindications and age restrictions

If you need to replace Tizin Allergy, use other antihistamines, for example, Erius, Fenistil, Tavegil, Suprastin, Diazolin, Zodak or Parlazin. These medicines are presented in different forms, among which there are also convenient for use in children (drops, syrup). But since their active ingredients, contraindications and other nuances of use are significantly different, give any of these or other antiallergic drugs to the child instead of the Tizin Allergy spray should only be done after consulting a doctor.
