Motilak for children: instructions for use

"Motilac" is often prescribed by adults to eliminate nausea, belching and other unpleasant symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract. It is quite easy to understand the instructions for use. Not everyone knows if this medicine can be used for children, when it is in demand and in what dosage it is recommended.

Release form

Motilac is produced only in solid form, but there are two types of such tablets:

  1. Coated. They have a convex shape on both sides, an almost white film shell and a white or white-yellowish core. One box contains 10 or 30 tablets, packed in blisters of ten.
  2. For resorption. They are also white and have a round shape convex on both sides. Such tablets are also sold in blisters of 10 pieces, and there are 1 or 3 blisters in one pack.

Composition

The main component of any such tablets is domperidone. This substance is presented in each tablet - a dosage of 10 mg. The auxiliary ingredients of the medicine differ:

  • Coated tablets contain hydroxypropyl cellulose, povidone, starch, MCC, talc and other substances that give density to the core and create a dense film on the surface.
  • Resorbable preparation consists of fructose, crospovidone, peppermint oil, sucrose, sodium carboxymethyl starch, magnesium stearate and dextrose.

Operating principle

"Motilak" helps with vomiting - due to the effect of its active component on the dopamine receptors that are located in the brain. This influence interferes with the transmission of impulses to the vomiting center. In addition, the medication has a peripheral effect. It activates gastric peristalsis, enhances the tone of the esophageal sphincter and promotes faster gastric emptying. These effects help prevent nausea and vomiting.

Indications

"Motilak" helps relieve symptoms such as feeling full of stomach, bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, belching, and so on. They occur with esophagitis, gastritis, esophageal reflux, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer and other gastrointestinal pathologies.

In addition, the medication is effective for vomiting or nausea caused by infection or radiation therapy, medication, functional disorder, diet disturbance and other factors.

Are babies prescribed?

In childhood, Motilak is allowed to be taken from 5 years old. If a small patient over five years old weighs less than 20 kg, such a drug cannot be used.

It is permissible to use tablets for children only with a weight over 20 kg. At the same time, the form of the prescribed medication can be any and is selected individually, since some children easily swallow coated tablets, while others find it difficult to swallow such a solid medication. We have to use another version of the tablets, which can be absorbed by any child 5 years and older.

Contraindications

"Motilac" should not be given not only at an early age, but also when:

  • hypersensitivity to any component of the tablets;
  • perforation of the wall of the gastrointestinal tract;
  • bleeding in the stomach or intestines;
  • intestinal obstruction;
  • prolactinoma.

The presence of liver pathologies or serious kidney diseases in a child requires medical supervision during treatment with Motilak.

Side effects

In some patients, from the very first days of taking the pills, an allergy appears in the form of hives or a rash on the skin, which is why the remedy is immediately canceled. In rare cases, the medication can provoke spasms in the intestines, which quickly pass. Sometimes the treatment of children is accompanied by the appearance of extrapyramidal symptoms, but after cancellation they completely disappear. In addition, domperidone is able to increase prolactin levels.

Instructions for use

The absorption of the active compound from the tablets is affected by the simultaneous intake of food, therefore it is recommended to dissolve or swallow Motilak 15-30 minutes before meals.

If a small patient has an acute illness manifested by attacks vomiting and severe nausea dosage "Motilak" is 5 mg of domperidone for every 10 kg of the child's weight. If the child weighs 30 kg, then he is given 1.5 tablets at one time (5 × 3). For children over 12 years old, two tablets are usually considered a single dose. The medicine is taken three or four times a day, and if required, then additionally at night.

If the medication is prescribed with a chronic disease, the dosage will be less. For every 10 kg of the child's body weight, 2.5 mg of the active compound is given. For example, a child weighing 20 kg requires 1/2 tablet per dose (2.5 × 2). At the age of 12 years and older, a single dose is usually 1 tablet. To eliminate chronic symptoms, "Motilak" is taken three times a day, but sometimes an additional dose is prescribed before bedtime.

If the child has renal failure, then the drug is given in the same dosages, but the frequency of administration is reduced to two, and in severe renal pathologies - sometimes up to once a day.

Overdose

If you accidentally take too many Motilac tablets, it will cause drowsiness, disorientation and other reactions from the nervous system. To eliminate them, the child is given a sorbent and his condition is monitored.

If it worsens, they immediately see a doctor, who usually prescribes antihistamines and anticholinergic drugs.

Interaction with other drugs:

  • Motilac can be used with digoxin, levodopa, antipsychotics or paracetamol.
  • The bioavailability of the drug is reduced if the tablets are taken simultaneously with inhibitors of gastric acid secretion or antacids.
  • The effect of "Motilak" will be weaker if drugs with anticholinergic effect are also used in the treatment of the child.

Terms of sale

Any of these pills can be purchased at the pharmacy without a prescription from a gastroenterologist or other specialist, but specialist advice is advisable when treating children. The price of 30 coated tablets and the same number of lozenges is about 230-250 rubles.

Storage features

It is recommended to keep the medication at home in a place hidden from children, where sunlight or high humidity will not act on the tablets. Storage should be at room temperature, no longer than 2 years from the date of issue.

Reviews

Many mothers are satisfied with the use of Motilak for children. They confirm that the tablets are fast enough to help relieve vomiting as well as bloating, belching or nausea. The price of the drug is affordable, so this medication is often preferred over more expensive analogues.

Many young patients tolerate the drug well, but side effects are rare.

In addition, many children do not like the taste of lozenges, so coated tablets are more in demand. Their size is small, and the medicine is easy to swallow.

Analogs

Substitution can be any other drugs with the same active ingredient - for example, "Motilium", "Domperidone", "Motinorm", "Passages", "Domstal", "Motonium". Most of these drugs are in solid form (coated tablets, chewable and resorbable), but Motilium is also produced in suspension, and one of the forms of Motinorm is syrup. The doctor may prescribe another antiemetic, such as Cerucal or Metoclopramide.
