Nasal drops "Aqua Maris" for children

With a viral infection in a child, a symptom of which is a runny nose, as well as to protect babies from rhinitis and ARVI, sea water solutions are used. One of the most popular is Aqua Maris. For the smallest, this drug is released in the form of drops.

Composition

The active ingredient of the drug is water from the Adriatic Sea. It is 30% of the total volume of the solution, that is, in 100 ml of the drug, seawater is represented by 30 milliliters. Purified plain water is added to its full volume. There are no preservatives or additional chemical compounds in Aqua Marisa.

See below for more details.

Release form

Aqua Maris nasal drops are presented as a transparent solution that has no smell or color. One dropper bottle contains 10 ml of this solution. The manufacturer also offers Aqua Maris spray, which is available in 30 ml vials with a dispensing spray device protected by a propylene cap.

Operating principle

The drug is a source of natural minerals. Aqua Maris drops contain Na, Mg, Cl, Ca, as well as bicarbonate and sulfate ions. After nasal instillation, such a remedy helps to maintain the condition of the nasopharyngeal mucosa in normal condition, preventing it from drying out.

Chlorine and sodium ions have an anti-inflammatory and anti-edema effect, and the presence of selenium and magnesium in the preparation stimulates the body's protective properties.

Aqua Maris not only liquefies mucus in the nasal passages, but also normalizes the process of its production in mucosal cells... In addition, under the action of water with sea minerals, the function of the ciliated epithelium located in the nasal cavity is improved. The drug also reduces the severity of inflammation and stimulates regenerative processes in the mucous membrane.

The cleansing effect of the drops is also important, which is especially valuable in case of vasomotor or allergic rhinitis, because Aqua Maris helps to remove haptens and allergenic substances from the mucous membrane. Instillation for hygienic purposes removes particles of room dust that have settled inside the nasopharynx, as well as dust from the street.

The use of Aqua Maris is also shown in a situation where the baby has a physiological runny nose. This problem is typical for infants in the first three months of life and is associated with the habituation of the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract to breathing after childbirth.

Due to the unregulated work of the glands secreting mucus, an excess of secretion accumulates in the baby's nose, which is manifested by a squelching sound or puffing during feedings. At the same time, the little one feels good, breathes freely through his nose and sleeps peacefully. With such a cold, Aqua Maris droplets help moisturize the mucous membrane and improve the work of its glands.

From what age is it allowed to take?

The instruction for Aqua Maris in the form of nasal drops specifies that this remedy can be used from birth, even with prematurity. Age restrictions are provided only for the drug in the form of a spray. This Aqua Maris is recommended to be used only after a year. However, when instilling the drug in drops for newborns, you should act very carefully and consult a doctor so as not to provoke the spread of the infection into the middle ear.

Contraindications

The only obstacle to the use of Aqua Maris nasal drops in childhood may be hypersensitivity to such a solution.

Side effects

In some children, the use of Aqua Maris provokes an allergic reaction.

Instructions for use and dosage

If the drug is used for therapeutic purposes, then 2 drops of Aqua Maris should be instilled into each nostril of the child. The procedure is performed 4 times a day. The duration of therapy is determined by the pediatrician, although the annotation indicates the average duration of treatment from 2 to 4 weeks.

If Aqua Maris is used prophylactically, the solution is injected into each nostril, one or two drops. Such hygienic treatment is sufficient 2-3 times a day. If you need to remove nasal secretions or soften them when mucus accumulates in the nose, Aqua Maris can be dripped into the baby's nose in as much as needed. Excess fluid is removed with a handkerchief or cotton pad. The procedure is repeated several times until successful softening and removal of impurities.

Overdose

Exceeding the dosage of Aqua Marisa does not have a harmful effect on the child's body.

Interaction with other drugs

Since seawater has no effect on any medicinal products, Aqua Maris can be used together with any other medications, including rhinitis medications.

Terms of sale

The purchase of Aqua Maris drops in the pharmacy is available without a prescription. The average price of one bottle of the drug is 150 rubles.

Storage conditions and shelf life

The air temperature during storage of Aqua Marisa should not exceed + 25 ° C, and the storage place should be inaccessible to kids. An unopened bottle of drops is usable for two years from the date of issue. Since the contents of the drug are sterile, after opening there are restrictions on the time of using the drops. When the bottle is opened, the solution contained in it will have to be used within 45 days from the moment of opening.

Reviews

Mostly positive reviews are left about Aqua Maris nasal drops. Mothers are happy that the product can be used from the very first day of life. They note that the drug perfectly cleans the baby's nose from crusts and excess mucus formed in it, and a runny nose after treatment with Aqua Maris passes much faster.

However, in many cases, other anti-rhinitis agents are not required. And since sea water is harmless, such treatment is only beneficial to the baby. In addition, it is very easy to bury the product.

Especially often Aqua Maris is used when a cold occurs in babies of the first year of life, because such small children do not want to give synthetic drugs at all. Also, such droplets help out with too dry air during the heating season. Moms often choose them to treat the baby's nose in the winter to prevent drying out of the mucous membrane and viral infections.

The disadvantages of Aqua Maris are the risk of allergies and the relatively high cost of the product. Some mothers eventually abandon this drug in favor of regular saline, but those who remain loyal to Aqua Maris emphasize that although the saline works in a similar way, it is poorer in composition.
