Chickenpox in the mouth of a child

Chickenpox is easily transmitted from sick children to healthy ones and is manifested by fever, blistering rash and other symptoms of malaise. In most cases, in childhood, this infection is fairly easy, and the rash is presented in small numbers and is only on the child's skin. However, there is also a more severe course of chickenpox, and vesicles can also appear on mucous membranes, for example, in the oral cavity.

Since every mother has a risk of "meeting" chickenpox in her baby, information on what to do when chickenpox rashes in the mouth appear and how to deal with such an infection is important for all parents.

Where do pimples occur in the mouth with chickenpox?

The causative agent of chickenpox spreads by airborne droplets, falling on the mucous membranes of a healthy person. Further, within 7-21 days, the virus multiplies and accumulates in the child's body, without showing itself in any way. When this period, called incubation, ends, the disease reveals itself with an increase in body temperature, weakness, sore throat, impaired appetite, and capricious behavior. Further, spots appear on the child's skin, which very quickly turn into bubbles.

With a moderate or severe course, the rash also covers the mucous membranes.

In the oral cavity, a blistering rash can be located:

  • In the language.
  • On the inner surface of the lips.
  • On the soft palate.
  • On the gum surface.
  • On a hard palate.
  • On the inside of the cheeks.

Such rashes look like tiny vesicles, which burst quickly enough and become ulcerated wounds. Gradually, they tighten and heal, but at the same time they do not cover with crusts, like a rash on the skin.

What to do with a rash in your mouth

If you find a rash with chickenpox in the mouth of a child, be sure to pay attention to the pediatrician, as such a rash is a sign of a more severe course of the infection. The doctor must prescribe treatment, because pockmarks in the mouth cause significant discomfort in children, interfering with swallowing and chewing. Sometimes children with chickenpox in the mouth have to be hospitalized, especially if the rash continues to spread to new areas of the mucous membrane or becomes infected.

How to treat chickenpox in the mouth

To make the bubbles on the oral mucosa less injured, the child is advised to give semi-liquid food. Vegetable and chicken broths, mashed soups, milk porridge, yoghurts, fruit purees are good choices. Sour, salty and spicy foods should be avoided during illness, and the mouth should be rinsed with water or an antiseptic agent after each meal.

It is also recommended to increase the amount of tiny liquid you drink, as this will help remove toxins from the body. Drinks containing a lot of vitamin C are especially useful for children with chickenpox, for example, berry juice or rosehip broth. Also give your baby clean water, weak tea, unsweetened compote.

Than to rinse your mouth

To ensure disinfection of the oral mucosa and prevent pathogenic bacteria from entering the ulcers, the child can rinse his mouth with such means:

  • Infusion of chamomile. Pour a tablespoon of the flowers of this plant with a glass of boiled water, cover and wait for the liquid to cool to room temperature, then rinse.
  • Furacilin solution. Take 200 ml of hot water and dissolve 2 furacilin tablets in it, and then cool the solution and use for rinsing.
  • Warm baking soda solution. To make such a remedy, use a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm boiled water.
  • An aqueous solution of boric acid. To prepare it, half a teaspoon of the powder is stirred in a glass of boiled water.
  • Miramistin. This antiseptic preparation is used for one rinse in the amount of 10-15 ml, performing the procedure 3-4 times a day.
  • Pale pink potassium permanganate solution. Add a few crystals of potassium permanganate to boiled non-hot water and stir everything thoroughly so that the rinse liquid is colored evenly.
  • Green tea. Brew the tea and let it cool, then use it as a rinse.

Than to process for faster healing

In order for the wounds on the oral mucosa, formed as a result of a blistering rash with chickenpox, to heal faster and cause the child less discomfort, it is worth using:

  • Sea buckthorn oil. This agent will simultaneously soften and disinfect the affected mucosa.
  • Chlorophyllipt. Such a medicine based on eucalyptus extract has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Use an oil solution, gently lubricating the sores with it.
  • Calgel. Such a remedy will help to anesthetize wounds with chickenpox in the mouth, and also inhibits the growth of bacteria, protecting the mucous membrane from infection.
  • Solcoseryl paste. After application, such a product will provide protection of the mucous membrane and activation of recovery processes within 3-5 hours.
