Pregnancy

27 weeks pregnant

27 weeks of pregnancy: CTE (coccygeal-parietal size) of the fetus 23 cm, weight about 1 kg. The position of the fetus's body is getting closer to the standard position of the embryo. Some discomfort in the expectant mother may require an urgent call to the doctor.

What month is it?

The 27th obstetric week is the 25th from conception or the seventh lunar month of pregnancy. Read more about timing and calculations here.

The third trimester begins. It is considered the most difficult for the entire period of bearing a child.

What happens to the fetus

Your baby grows and begins to feel some tightness of the uterine cavity. The grown-up legs and arms of the baby literally have nowhere to go. So, at rest, the baby increasingly takes the optimal position for the fetus: it pulls the crossed legs and arms to the tummy and chest. When the time of birth comes, it is this position of the body (head down) that allows the baby to pass normally, without complications, through the birth canal of the mother.

The fetus is now not necessarily 100% correct. It can be arranged both across the uterus and diagonally in some way. On examination, your doctor may tell you that the fetal head is right below your ribs. Don't be alarmed. By the time of delivery, the baby will still have time to turn around as expected.

This is what the fetus looks like at the twenty-seventh week:

Fetal movements are felt more and more intensely every week. Sometimes it may feel like your entire belly is shaking from the inside. At such moments, it is customary to talk about fetal hiccups. It is believed that more often children hiccup in the womb, who often suck their fingers.

The fetal brain and its nervous system improve, form more and more neural connections. Thanks to this, a more orderly alternation of the periods of sleep and wakefulness of the baby begins. On signals from the brain, the fetus makes many movements, as if exercising. The baby moves its fingers and limbs, imitates breathing movements.

At approximately 27 weeks of gestation, the fetus completes the development of the lacrimal glands and ducts.

The full height of the fetus is approximately 34 cm (from crown to heels), weight is about 1 kg.

Feelings of a woman

Mommy's comments about the twenty-seventh week of pregnancy can be completely opposite. Some already feel that they are tired of pregnancy, they want to inform and give birth to a baby as soon as possible. This is especially common in twin pregnancies. Indeed, in this case, the woman's body carries a huge load.

Other mothers do not experience any problems and complications and continue to enjoy their position. This occurs most often in healthy women with a normal weight, a fully established diet and in the absence of stress.

Here are some feedback from moms from different forums:

Natalie: I have a second pregnancy. In principle, everything is fine, but heartburn torments! I can not anymore!!!

Guest_Olenka:Hello! In general, we have an interesting situation: 27 weeks, and I only gained about 2.5 kg (with an initial weight of 56). The doctors grumble a little, but the baby seems to be developing normally. cool.gif I eat whatever I want. Basically, these are meat, vegetables, fruits. Not particularly fond of sweets. The tummy is growing, especially recently. And the weight is a little at all. They say you shouldn't worry. It's just that everything is well absorbed and goes to work.

Irina Rakhimyanova:I, too, have long felt him hiccuping! these are such muffled and rhythmic, barely noticeable tapping.

Zaya-i-i: I can already distinguish hiccups from jolts. How cool it is !!!! Today I was at the doctor, she scolded me. Before pregnancy, I weighed 57 kg, and now I weigh 67.8 kg at 27 weeks, and walk for another 3 months. You will have to close your mouth, and you want to eat.

Esprit: We are also 27 weeks old !! Oh my God, so much already and everything flew by quickly !!! My tummy is shaking too !!!! At first I was worried, I thought something was wrong, because I hadn't read about it anywhere !! and then Sedna read that someone's tummy is also shaking !!! why is this interesting ??? but to distinguish when the baby hiccups and when not yet I can not !! Well, nothing !! everything is still ahead !!

And this is how tummies look at 27 weeks:

The belly has already grown so much that in a standing position it is impossible to see your own legs. Climbing stairs, squatting and long walking can sometimes seem almost overwhelming. But if you maintain physical activity, this problem can be dealt with.

It is very important now to learn how to analyze your condition. This is necessary in order to distinguish the inconvenience of pregnancy from possible complications. Consider the various sensations and their meanings.

Discomfort and complications

The following are the most common symptoms that you may experience. Compare with your feelings and always be aware of alarms.

  1. Calf muscle cramps. They happen at any time, regardless of your physical activity. Not to be confused with goose bumps. With cramps, the muscle contracts by itself and seems to freeze, this can be very painful. With such sensations, you need to pull the toe of the injured leg towards yourself, rub the lower leg. If such phenomena are rare and pass quickly, there is no cause for alarm. Tell your antenatal clinic doctor about persistent cramps. He will adjust your diet, prescribe additional tests or medications. In general, this unpleasant condition does not threaten your baby in any way.
  2. If the stomach hurts as if something is pressing on it, this is already a signal of a dangerous state. Two other severe symptoms are pulling back pain and discomfort similar to menstruation. One or more of the listed symptoms indicate the threat of premature birth. Either go to the doctor urgently, or call an ambulance.
  3. Vaginal discharge should not be profuse and / or bloody. Report any change in discharge pattern to your doctor. Pathological discharge with pain, as in point 2, is a reason to call an ambulance.
  4. The intensity of fetal movements noticeably decreases, the movements disappear completely - consult a doctor, he will send you to CTG (cardiotocography, fetal heart function check).
  5. High pressure, edema that does not go away, “flies” in front of the eyes - perhaps you have late toxicosis. Read about it here. Visit the antenatal clinic as soon as possible.
  6. Only one leg swells, pain and frequent headaches are felt in it. Do not attribute these symptoms to fatigue or stress, see a doctor.
  7. If you have previously noted any hormonal disorders, a complication may arise - premature dilatation of the cervix. The attending gynecologist must definitely monitor your condition.
  8. Other unpleasant sensations that may occur: nausea and vomiting, as with poisoning, pain during urination, fever, lack of stool for a day or longer. Do not self-medicate, consult a doctor.

Unpleasant companions of pregnancy. Heartburn, thrush and sore tooth. How to deal with this in the third trimester?

Emotional condition

Many pregnant women find themselves calmer. This is facilitated by specific hormones. And yet, mood swings are not ruled out. Too strong emotions cause a real hormonal storm in the blood of the fetus, so it is better to restrain feelings.

Your dreams can become extremely vivid and realistic. Why this happens in pregnant women, no one knows.

Despite the physical problems, many moms experience a real uplift in the soul. I would like to start repairs in the apartment, to quickly equip the nursery, to do landscape design in the country. Unfortunately, all such work can only be directed. Any heavy loads are now dangerous for the baby.

The weight

Mothers often ask: if you gain 9-13 kg during the entire pregnancy, and the child usually weighs 3-3.5 kg, where does the rest of the body weight come from? And won't excess weight remain after childbirth? It is important to consider here that the amniotic fluid is approximately a liter, that is, 1 kg, the uterus and placenta also have their share in the total body weight of a woman. Each breast becomes heavy, blood volume increases. Plus small reserves, because a huge amount of energy is consumed during childbirth.

If you establish a healthy diet after childbirth, wear a bandage and move as actively as possible, your weight will probably quickly return to normal.

Recommendations

[sc: rsa]

  1. Strictly follow the diet, now it is undesirable to allow yourself any deviations. Adjust your diet as recommended by your doctor.
  2. Make yourself as comfortable as possible before bed. Stock up on extra pillows and place them under your belly, between your knees, under your back.
  3. Do not be ashamed of your duck walk, do not try to straighten up. Your back leans back to balance your grown belly.
  4. Watch your weight gain closely.
  5. Sometimes a few drops of urine may be released when you sneeze. This is unpleasant, but should go away after childbirth. Use panty liners.
  6. Training contractions should be infrequent and irregular. If possible, write down the times when contractions occur. This will help to recognize the norm and violations.
  7. If you haven't come up with a name for your baby yet, think about your options.
  8. Air travel is a dangerous event for pregnant women. Differences in pressure and height can lead to premature birth. If you still need to fly, you will need a doctor's consultation. The travel agent may require a medical certificate stating that you are allowed to fly by plane.
  9. Sign up for courses on preparing for childbirth and caring for a baby, you can together with the child's father.
  10. Be sure to talk to your baby, you can even read fairy tales aloud.
  11. If itching of your chest, abdomen and thighs, do not allow yourself to scratch your skin. Use a special anti-stretch mark or quality olive oil.
  12. Enjoy the sexual side of life with the child's father, if you have no contraindications. These include: multiple or low-water pregnancies, the threat of miscarriage.
  13. If you work or study, discuss important issues with family and management. For example, what day do you have to go on maternity leave, whether you need to transfer cases to a substitute employee, which family member will help in caring for the child, and so on.
  14. If you are scheduled for an unscheduled ultrasound, you can take your husband or older child with you. The sight on the scanner screen will surely be unforgettable for them.
