6 things to help your baby fall asleep

Parents have to teach their children many activities that seem elementary to adults. At first, the baby does not know how to hold a spoon, brush his teeth, go to the pot. Even the need to go to bed sometimes provokes a protest in a small child. He wants so much to play and indulge himself, and his parents force him to go to bed.

Until the little one realizes the charm of a night's sleep, adults have to invent different tricks to calm him down and put him to bed. Later it turns out that this is not enough. At night, many babies wake up several times, get scared of the dark or babies and start calling for their mother. All children have their own fears and characteristics, so it is impossible to give parents universal advice that will help them ensure their child a sound and sound sleep. However, there are certain principles, following which, you will quickly teach your baby to follow the regime.

1. Your place to sleep

The child needs to equip a separate place to rest, and the child must realize that this is where his space for rest and sleep is. Parents often take very young children to their bed. There is nothing wrong with that, just mom and dad must understand that this will not last forever. Besides, even a child has a need for a personal corner... Therefore, let the little one immediately get used to the fact that he has his own bed. Otherwise, later it will be much more difficult to teach him to sleep separately, but someday it will still have to be done.

Here are some helpful tips to help parents create a cozy retreat for their youngest family member:

  • Ideally, the child should have a separate bedroom in which he can feel like a real master. However, the baby often has to share a room with his parents or his brother or sister. In this case, you can separate the child's sleeping place by placing a screen in front of him, a wardrobe or hanging a curtain... Decorate the children's corner with nice little things: posters with characters from your favorite cartoons, a shelf with toys and books of fairy tales. In order for the baby to sleep well, he must feel comfort and safety around him;
  • Let your child fall asleep with whatever toys he wants. A baby may be scared to sleep alone. But in an embrace with a plush friend, he will feel protected. The main thing is to sit a little by the child's bed until he falls asleep, and also make sure that there are no speakers among the toys. Otherwise, at night, if accidentally pressed, they will scream loudly about how they love their little master, which will greatly scare him;
  • The crib is best placed in a corner or next to a wall... So the little one will see everything that is happening around, and feel safe. This simple technique will calm down babies who are afraid to stay in the dark, because a "scary monster" can crawl out from under the bed;
  • Do not place your child's bed near a window or battery. Otherwise, he will catch a cold during airing or suffer from the heat in winter;
  • If possible, protect your baby from exposure to potential allergens: do not hang carpets that accumulate dust on the walls in his bedroom, take flowering indoor plants away.

2. Cozy bed

Special attention should be paid to furniture for the child. The bed and its sides should be of such a height that the baby can get out without the help of adults... It is also important to choose a comfortable mattress, preferably an orthopedic one. Otherwise, the baby will toss and turn for a long time, trying to take a comfortable position, and as a result, it will run into the room to its parents.

To make your baby's sleeping place more comfortable, decorate his crib with a canopy. Such a decorative element looks beautiful, and also allows you to isolate a personal space for a child who does not have his own room. Being under the canopy, the baby will be sure that at night no monsters will penetrate him. This will allow him to sleep soundly until the morning.

Fasten the canopy tighter so that the child does not pull it over. However, do not forget that the fabric will have to be removed from time to time for washing. It accumulates dust, to which the baby can develop allergies.

3. Blackout curtains

The hormone melatonin helps a person fall asleep and sleep well. It is a hormone that is produced in the body in the dark. Therefore, make sure that the light from street lamps and headlights of passing cars does not enter the baby's room. For this it is worth buying blackout curtains made of opaque fabric or blinds. In such conditions, the child will begin to produce melatonin, so he will definitely fall asleep.

4. Night light

Even many adults feel uncomfortable in absolute darkness when they wake up at night. Only parents know that monsters do not exist, and children seriously think that someone lives underneath the beds. Therefore, waking up at night in pitch darkness, the kids begin to cry and call their mother. It can be difficult to calm them down.

Leave the night light on in the nursery: its weak light will not disturb sleep, but it will help the baby to calm down if he wakes up in the middle of the night. The child may even be able to fall asleep without the presence of the parents.

5. Toy for sleeping

Don't allow your child to take everything to bed? Then buy him a special toy to sleep with. Let your baby choose a new friend on his own who will protect him and scare him away throughout the night. With such protection, the baby will cease to be afraid of being alone.

An ordinary teddy bear or bunny is suitable as a night amulet. However, in stores, you can also find special toys for sleeping, which make sounds. Now parents are not advised to put babies to sleep in absolute silence, because they can be very alarmed by any rustle. For this, modern sleep toys have been created. They imitate the pounding of my mother's heartbeat, the rumbling in the womb, the sounds of rain and sea waves. Each toy has a sleep sensor inside. If the baby wakes up in the middle of the night, a programmed noise will automatically turn on, which will lull the baby to sleep again.

6. Essential oils

Essential oils, which have a calming effect, help prepare your baby for bed. They also have bactericidal and antiseptic properties. Bathe your baby before bed in a bath with a few drops of essential oils, or place an aroma lamp near his bed. All this will help the baby to quickly plunge into the arms of Morpheus and sleep soundly until the morning.

Check with your pediatrician before using essential oils as they can trigger allergies in your baby.
